Kematian pada penderita sirosis hati akibat penyakit infeksi ditemukan 52,9%.Kata kunci: kadar limfosit total, sirosis hatiAbstractLiver Cirrhosis is the end stage of chronic liver disease in the form of a diffuse fibrotic process characterized by changes in the normal architecture of the liver to abnormal nodules. In patients with liver cirrhosis is common infections due to immunosuppression. The total lymphocyte count can be used to determine the immune status of patients with liver cirrhosis. The purpose of this study was to determine total lymphocyte count of liver cirrhosis patients. This research design is descriptive analytic. The population is the liver cirrhosis patients as treated in the Internal Medicine Dr. M. Djamil Padang in 2011. Samples were taken from the population that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data processed by Chi-square test. The results of this study indicated that as many as 83,1% of cirrhosis patients have a low total lymphocyte count. There is a relationship of total lymphocyte levels with severity of liver cirrhosis with a value of p<0,05. The infections found 49.2% of cirrhosis patients. Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is brain dysfunction manifested as a broad spectrum of neuropsychiatric abnormalities caused by hepatic insufficiency or portosystemic shunting due to portal hypertension. Portal hypertension in liver cirrhosis also causes ascites, as the most common clinical manifestation. Further, immune dysfunction, one of which is decreased total lymphocyte count (TLC), happens at liver cirrhosis, which triggers the systemic inflammatory response. This systemic inflammatory response plays a role in HE. Objective of this study is to know the correlation between ascites and TLC with occurence of HE in liver cirrhosis patient. This study was conducted by retrospective cohort design in Saiful Anwar Hospital. Determination of sample amount at this study used total sampling method. Hepatic encephalopathy diagnosis was based on West Haven Criteria. Ascites was determined by physical examination and/or abdominal ultasonography. Total lymphocyte count data was taken from medical record, with complete blood count examination used XS-800i hematology analyzer machine. Data were analyzed using a logistic regression test, with p<0.05 was considered significant and Confidence Interval (CI) 95%. Seventy-eight liver cirrhosis patients were observed using a retrospective cohort method regarding the HE occurrence, and physical examination for ascites and laboratory examination were performed. The statistical analysis result of the correlation between ascites and HE is significant with an odds ratio of 5.108 and CI of 1.36-19.25. On the other hand, TLC has no significant correlation with the occurrence of HE. Based on this analysis result, it is concluded that ascites has a correlation with HE, but TLC does not.

The aim of this study was to assess the correlation and average cost of total lymphocyte count compared with CD4 count as a broad estimate of immunosuppression in HIV-1 infected individuals. Spearman's partial rank correlation were calculated between total lymphocyte count, absolute CD4 count and CD4 per cent stratified by stage of HIV-1 infection for routinely collected samples. Data were collected prospectively from a T cell-subset register combined with clinical data obtained retrospectively from case notes of HIV-infected patients managed at St Mary's Hospital, London 1982-1991. Costing data were obtained through a survey of the departments of haematology and immunology 1989 90 prices . The correlation between 1534 paired absolute lymphocyte count and CD4 lymphocyte count was found to be high R 0.76 . When analysed by stage of HIV infection, the correlation increased from R 0.64 for asymptomatic patients, to R 0.72 for patients with symptomatic non-AIDS HIV infection and R 0.73 for AIDS patients. Correlations between absolute lymphocyte count and CD4 per cent were considerably weaker: R 0.41 all paired counts; R 0.32 for asymptomatic patients; R 0.25 for symptomatic non-AIDS patients; R 0.32 for AIDS patients. Average cost was 8 per full blood count compared with 38 per T-cell subset analysis. The high correlation between total and CD4 lymphocyte counts, especially for patients with symptomatic HIV disease, demonstrates the suitability of the use of total lymphocyte count in the absence of CD4 counts. Given the considerably lower prices of total lymphocyte counts compared with T-cell subset analysis, this is particularly relevant for developing countries.

Adequate nutrition is one of important factors in immunodeficiency repairment. Soybean and tempeh contains proteins, zinc, ferrum, vitamins and isoflavon. Fermentation in tempeh makes it having better nutrients digestion and absorptionthan soybean. The objective of this study was to compare the effects of soy and tempeh emulsions on total lymphocytecount in rats treated with prednisone. The test was done on 24 male white rats divided into four groups. Group A wasgiven distilled water and group B, C and D had prednisone 2.5 mg/day for 6 days. After that, group A and B werecontinued having distilled water while groups C or D was fed with soy or tempeh emulsion 0.71 mL/day for 10 days, respectively. The results shown that soy and tempeh emulsion could increase total lymphocyte count significantly (p <0,05) but there was no significant difference of total lymphocyte count between soy and tempeh emulsion groups (p >0,05).

Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in children under five due to chronic malnutrition. One cause of stunting is poor parenting patterns such as feeding in the first 2 years after birth. Exclusive breastfeeding is the best nutrition a baby receives in the first 6 months of life. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of exclusive breastfeeding with the decrease of stunting in children aged 6-23 months in Sosor Lontung Village, Siempat Nempu District, Dairi Regency. This study used a cross-sectional study design. The sample of this research was children aged 6-23 months as many as 39 people. Data collection was carried out by interview and measurement of children's length / height. Univariate and bivariate data analysis used Chi Square test with ƿ-value <0.05. Based on the bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting with ƿ-value 0.037. The results showed the percentage of stunting in children aged 6-23 months was greater in children who were not given exclusive breastfeeding (50%) than those who received exclusive breastfeeding (17.65%). The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting with a value-value of 0.037. That is, exclusive breastfeeding can reduce the risk of stunting is getting smaller. It is hoped that all babies will receive exclusive breastfeeding so that the baby can grow optimally.
