This study was conducted to identify the phenomenon of the process of motorcycle club subculture occupy space in public open space under flyover in Bandung city. Data was collected by observation and interview members of the subculture as a subject of the research. Utilization of the space under flyover by the motorcycle club gives new meaning to the space that originally did not have a function in urban spatial. However they also do legitimacy of power over space by said that “the space is theirs”. Abstract East Flood Canal is one of the manmade waterfront public open spaces in Jakarta which is often visited by residents. The existence of the public open space is very important for society. The purpose of the study is to identify the utilization pattern of public open space on canal banks and analyze the problems related to the utilization of this space. Method used place-centered mapping to identify physical characteristic of public open space and patterns of activity that occur in the study area. The study is conducted in the segment East Flood Canal on Jl. Kolonel Sugiono, Duren Sawit sub-district, East Jakarta. The result is the pattern of utilizing public open space in the four zones in the East Flood Canal segment is linear because the pattern follows the physical setting of pedestrian circulation paths and bicycle lanes. This study suggests both two circulation pathways (pedestrian and bicycle) need to be designed continuously along the canal and equipped with adequate facilities. Improvement of the planning, design, and maintenance of public open space in the segment of canal will have many benefits to increase social interaction, recreational activities, educational communication, and also a concern for the hydrological aspects of the canal.

Playing is one of the activities naturally possessed by children from childhood and elements of learning have been observed to be in playing and vice versa. For example, traditional games have philosophical values with moral messages but they have been replaced by games prioritizing technological advancements over time. This has reduced the familiarity of many children with traditional games in recent times. Meanwhile, the reduction in the quantity and quality of play and public open space for children is often considered one of the factors causing the extinction of traditional games. The availability of an adequate environment including play areas or playground aids children's development. This paper discusses the traditional games known by the present generation and the role of space in sustaining them with the focus on West Java. The study was conducted through observation and distribution of questionnaires to children aged 6-12 years living in Bandung city and some urban settlements. The results provided an overview of the types of traditional games known by the children, the space they favored, and its role in their willingness to play. © 2020 Dhini Dewiyanti Tantarto, Dianna Astrid Hertoery

Each public open space of the housing cluster has different locations, arrangement patterns, and physical elements so that the social interactions between occupants that occur in each open space are different. Therefore, it is necessary to know how this open space affects social interactions that occur. The method used in the research is qualitative descriptive. Conduct surveys to figure the conditions that occur in the field. Then find the relationship between literature and field conditions related to open space and social interaction with users. From the results of the study, it is known that the place, structuring pattern, and physical elements of space are open to influence the social interaction of residential residents. However, from the user community, the physical element of an open space is the most influential to the social interaction of residents. Without the physical elements that encourage occupant activity, there will be no social activities and interactions in the open space.
