The presence of subcultures in urban society is as a result of the heterogeneity of culture. One of subculture that presence in Bandung city is a motorcycle club which can be found in almost every corner of the Bandung city, especially in public spaces. This study was conducted to identify the phenomenon of the process of motorcycle club subculture occupy space in public open space under flyover in Bandung city. Data was collected by observation and interview members of the subculture as a subject of the research. The result showed that the main motive for using public open space under flyover is the desire for self-existence that cannot be accommodated in public space that already exists. Utilization of the space under flyover by the motorcycle club gives new meaning to the space that originally did not have a function in urban spatial. However they also do legitimacy of power over space by said that “the space is theirs”. Therefore architects and planners should consider subculture as a part of the society that have the same right to access public open space and do their activities in Bandung City.

The Internet is growing ever more mobile – meaning, that an ever greater proportion of Internet devices are mobile devices. This trend necessitates new designs and will produce new and even unpredictable conceptions about the very nature of the Internet and, more fundamentally, the nature of social interaction. The engineering response to growing mobility and complexity is difficult to predict. This chapter summarizes the past and the present ways of dealing with mobility, and uses that as context for trying to understand what needs to be done for the future. Central to the conception of future mobility is the notion of “always available” and highly interactive applications. Part of providing acceptable service in that conception of the mobile Internet will require better ways to manage handovers as the device moves around the Internet, and ways to better either hide or make available a person's identity depending on who is asking.

Neglected sites in central parts of cities, where in the past an industry was placed, are nowadays (since about 2000) being intensively transformed in big cities of Europe. Functional changes in these areas are causing in consequence spatial and cityscape changes. The presented example of Hamburg HafenCity shows present possibilities for use of former harbours in innercity spaces. Conclusions of the paper refer to the quality of the process of harbour transformation, considering the public open space and the accompanying cityscapes.

Abstract East Flood Canal is one of the manmade waterfront public open spaces in Jakarta which is often visited by residents. The existence of the public open space is very important for society. The purpose of the study is to identify the utilization pattern of public open space on canal banks and analyze the problems related to the utilization of this space. Method used place-centered mapping to identify physical characteristic of public open space and patterns of activity that occur in the study area. The study is conducted in the segment East Flood Canal on Jl. Kolonel Sugiono, Duren Sawit sub-district, East Jakarta. The result is the pattern of utilizing public open space in the four zones in the East Flood Canal segment is linear because the pattern follows the physical setting of pedestrian circulation paths and bicycle lanes. This study suggests both two circulation pathways (pedestrian and bicycle) need to be designed continuously along the canal and equipped with adequate facilities. Improvement of the planning, design, and maintenance of public open space in the segment of canal will have many benefits to increase social interaction, recreational activities, educational communication, and also a concern for the hydrological aspects of the canal.

Among the physical that facilitace urban development, public open space is singularly responsible for improving urban quality. Football appeared in Brazil in the end of the 19th century, among a favorable environment for the practice of English sports. These sports were initially practiced not professionally by English migrants and young students of Law, Engineering, and Medicine. Fluminense was the first club from Rio de Janeiro, at that time the capital of the country, to be dedicated exclusively to practice football. In the beginning, football represented nobility for the local elite. The social profile of people who attended matches at Fluminense’s field was very near to that of the players, be it for family reasons, friendship, or other motivations. Young women who went there desired to see their distinguished idols, and from this practice many relationships started. While this idyllic image of the past was produced, a historical point of view can notice a decisive enhancement in social segments interested in football. In the decade of 1910, a collective enthusiasm arose for football, mainly due to the fact that it was easy to practice and watch football in any kind of open space. This allowed it to spread out of clubs and the National Team. Far from the spatial and economic restriction of performance arts, football could be practiced and watched freely, in most diverse situations. The clubs’ lack of structure to allocate players and fans contributed in making football a popular game, since they needed to seek public spaces to practice. At this point, the club that opposed to Fluminense has been Flamengo, which until then was not more than a regatta club. When it opened a football department, it practiced in open fields near the beaches. Many passersby started to look out their training and matches, and some of them adopted Flamengo as their club even if not participating of its internal sphere. The players became idols, first in the neighborhood and then in the whole city. This encouraged the talk about football in bars and cafés, with reflections on the increasing number of people to attend matches. Historian Leonardo Pereira says that in a few years football has become a mania. The making of the first national team to dispute friendly matches against England and Argentina has also stimulated football’s repercussion. Noticing public interest over matches with teams from different cities or countries, sports press left its poor attitude about football and began to carefully pay attention to this kind of rivalry and the consequent emotions each fan is able to express for his team, especially the National Team.
