E-government is an effort to utilize information and communication technology especially internet to improve public service quality which generally implemented in a web based application. Usability is one of the important quality criteria for the success of a web. In this study we developed a framework for evaluation of usability in e-government consisting of  eight stages: (1) determining the evaluation objectives, (2) determining the usability aspects, (3) determining the metrics usability, (4) selecting usability evaluation method candidates, (5) determining the required criteria of the method to be evaluated, (6) evaluating the method, (7) selecting and making the instrument, and (8) evaluate usability.. The results of the application of this framework in the case study of e-finance resulted in two methods used: user testing and questionnaires. The evaluation of usability in e-government for e-finance case studies using the proposed framework results in usability level of e-finance in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction are 96%, 92%, and 70 respectively. Which can be identified to be grouped into 16 problems consisting of aspects of effectiveness and efficiency.

With advances in information and communication technology (ICT), Web-based education has become an increasingly popular instructional mode all over the world. In recent years, the Chinese government has authorized a total of 45 universities to offer Web-based educational programs. One is China Central Radio and Television University, the Open University in China. The other 44 universities are all leading conventional universities. This case study is intended to provide a descriptive analysis of Web-based educational practices at the 44 leading conventional universities, by focusing on the current state of Web-based education in China and its discernible trends for the future. It is hoped this analysis of Web-based educational efforts in China will provide some insight for other countries.

Companies have made considerable progress in assessing the sustainability of their processes and products, including the information and communication technology (ICT) sector. However, it is surprising that little attention has been given to the sustainability performance of software products. For this article, we chose a case study approach to explore the extent, to which software manufacturers have considered sustainability criteria for their products. We selected a manufacturer of sustainability management software on the assumption that they would be more likely to integrate elements of sustainability performance in their products. In the case study, we applied a previously developed set of criteria for sustainable software (SCSS) using a questionnaire and experiments, to assess a web-based sustainability management software product regarding its sustainability performance. The assessment finds that despite a sustainability conscious manufacturer, a systematic assessment of sustainability regarding software products is missing in the case study. This implies that sustainability assessment for software products is still novel, corresponding knowledge is missing and suitable tools are not yet being widely applied in the industry. The SCSS presents a suitable approach to close this gap, but it does require further refinement, for example regarding its applicability to web-based software on external servers.

Background: A large number of students enrolled in many universities and the low ratio of supervisors to the student have challenged the process of developing education and research. Today, information and communication technology (ICT) tools have changed the learning environments. We assessed the improvement in challenges in the thesis process for Master’s degree virtual students using learning management systems (LMS). Methods: This study is a translational research design focusing on adaptation of educational technology and was conducted in three stages: Preparation (pre-experimental stage), implementation (experimental stage), and assessment (post-experimental stage) in the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 2017. In the preparation stage, we matched LMS with technical support requirements. In the experimental stage, the effectiveness of a web-based system (LMS) for thesis support was assessed in 67, 65, and 51 master students in 2017, 2018, and 2019, respectively, and they were followed two years. In the post- experimental stage, the program was assessed using quality criteria. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation), analysis of variance (ANOVA), and post-hoc tests. Results: Data of 67 students as the first entry group were collected after two years of implementation of the program and 22 quality criteria were extracted by literature review and validated by focus group discussion. The results of students’ perspective showed that the scores of the quality criteria after using LMS in comparison other alternative methods were at the desirable level (mean score > 7), the social network and email scores were mostly at the moderate level, and the meeting was almost less desirable (mean score < 4). The results of the supervisors’ perspective also showed that the scores of the quality criteria were at the desirable level. The ANOVA result for most criteria was statistically significant at 95% CI. The results indicated the higher scores in all quality criteria after using LMS in comparison with alternative methods from the viewpoints of the supervisors and students (95% CI: 8.76 ± 0.83) and (95% CI: 8.71 ± 0.64), respectively. Conclusions: The results of this study indicated that implementing LMS for thesis support was almost twice more successful in achieving the considered criteria than other alternative methods in terms of both students’ and supervisors’ perspectives. Implementation of LMS in the thesis process, which significantly affects the quality and quantity of research through improvement in feedback quality, saves time, and increases the rate of thesis completion.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to detail a Library open source software (OSS) development project resulting in the launch of StatBase, a statistical gathering and data visualization tool, so that organizations can adopt a locally managed alternative to costly data aggregation tools. Design/methodology/approach – This case study is based on a literature review, Agile development framework, and user experience modeling. The software solution features a Joomla framework with contributed modules and open source architecture. Findings – This case study demonstrates the creation and practical implementation of a scalable OSS platform for data management and analysis. Practical implications – Provides a frame of reference and methodology for libraries, both public and academic, seeking to implement a web-based resource to gather, organize, and interpret statistical metrics via a centralized, lightweight, open source architecture. Originality/value – This case study provides a detailed scope and step-by-step technology process description by which an organization can adopt or model the StatBase solution for business metrics.

With the ROI of persona methods still being arguable, it is important to understand how personas can be utilized in user interface design. The extensive methods proposed by Pruitt and Adlin (2006), throw light on several ways to use persona methods in user interface design lifecycle and also propose mitigations to several risk factors that can be encountered in this process. However, there is very little research presenting case studies on an entire design lifecycle that utilizes personas. This paper presents design, development and evaluation of a web-based audit management system in aircraft maintenance domain with emphasis on the persona creation process, the design approach followed, and the user testing results obtained. The experiences of a design team novice to personas will be discussed.

One of the services of LPPOM MUI Banten to the community is to provide information through the website, through which the community can independently access various information related to halal certification. In order to achieve optimum service, the website itself should meet the needs of the community, and it should be communicative and informative. This research aims to develop the information system of halal service based on user requirement through ergonomics participatory approach and also to design website by considering ergonomic display. The method used was one group pretest-posttest design, while the sampling was performed using systemic random sampling approach (n = 45). Result shows that the information system of halal service available on the website needs to be developed using ergonomic participatory approach. The development of Halal Information System using participatory ergonomics approach is able to increase user satisfaction by 19.27% (pretest average 23.82 ± 2.81 and post-test 69.73 ± 3.1). The formula development is also discussed.

Usability is a key factor in the quality of the product, which includes ease of use, user satisfaction and the ability of the user to quickly understand the product without practice. As smartphone usage increases, most organizations have shifted their services to mobile applications, such as m-banking. Most of the people uses banking services but hesitate to use m-banking due to complex interfaces. Usability researchers concentrate on the value of design simplicity so that users can perform a particular task with satisfaction, efficiency, and effectiveness. If a mobile app lacks one of these usability features, users may get confused while using the app. This research examines the key usability issues in existing m-banking after checking the usability satisfaction level through System Usability Scale. To compare and highlight a number of usability issues, the researcher used two types of usability evaluation method 'User Testing' and 'Heuristic Evaluation'. In heuristic evaluation expert users used two M-banking apps i.e. Bank of Punjab (BOP) and MCB Islamic Bank (MIB) to evaluate them against Neilson 10 heuristics and extract the usability issues in apps. The user testing is then performed by novice users which includes tasks (translated from extracted problems by heuristic evaluation). After completion on whole testing users filled the post-test SUS’s questionnaire. The result shows that the overall success rate of the tasks was 83%, SUS score was 77 and overall relative time-based efficiency very 54.2%. The expert evaluators found 83% minor errors and 17% major errors. The finding of this paper shows  usability problems and recommendations are provided to increase the usability of mobile banking applications at the end of this paper.

Café as a place to relax or chatter where visitors can order the menu available. In general, a café often has difficulty in serving customers, especially for menu ordering facilities. This is also experienced by café 50/50 Coffee which still makes menu reservations manually. Based on these problems, a system of e-order menus of web-based mobile applications is designed. The study aims to produce a mobile web ordering system that is then analyzed with the PIECES indicator to determine the level of user satisfaction. Design of this system using the waterfall model System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) development method and then analyzed the level of user satisfaction with the PIECES method. System testing uses usability testing with the USE Questionnaire method. System implementations are created with the help of the CodeIgniter framework and use the PHP programming language. The results of the study in the form of a menu e-order system at the 50/50 Coffee café with the conclusion of the analysis that the users of the e-order system were “SATISFIED”.

One of them by developing a Web-Based Employee Application Exam. Department of Human Resources at Housing realize that the role of employees determine the success or failure of the company to achieve its objectives. With a good selection implementation process, employees received will be qualified so that coaching, development, and setting employees becomes easier. This research will evaluate the quality of a website online exam based on the Web-site Quality Evaluation Method. The results of the analysis indicate that website quality is not satisfactory, so the need for design development of a prototype website using the Spiral Development Method.

User interface (UI)/user experience (UX) is one part of the stages in the development of the system to produce interactive and attractive web-based application layouts so that it is easy to understand and use by users. In this research, a case study was conducted on early childhood in PAUD Kuntum Mekar. The design of the UI/UX model for holistic integrative PAUD monitoring becomes one of the solutions to help parents and teachers. The method used to design UI/UX is the task centered system design (TCSD) approach starting from the stages; 1) identification scope of use, 2) user centered requirement analysis, 3) design and scenario, and 4) walkthrough evaluate, the method used for system testing is user satisfaction, and heuristic usability. The purpose of this study is the UI/UX design with TCSD can provide valid data needs of each actor based on the assignment and design of the story board of the developed system. The results of this research are UI/UX model design for integrative holistic PAUD monitoring application.
