The aim of this study was to propose and validate a model of organisational effectiveness which could be utilised by a metropolitan municipality to address problems and weaknesses in order to maintain its credibility in the eyes of the public and fulfil its legislatively prescribed mandate. As a first step, this study designed a conceptual model of organisational effectiveness for a metropolitan municipality by including organisational and behavioural variables published in previous studies, as well as variables contained in existing models of effectiveness. In order to validate the model, the next step was to conduct a cross-sectional survey using the Effectiveness Survey (ES) in an existing metropolitan municipality in South Africa (n = 6 514) and expose the data gathered to structural equation modelling (SEM). The confirmatory factor analysis that was conducted subsequently confirmed the existence of the three main variables proposed in the conceptual model, namely Healthy Systems, Goal Achievement and Service Delivery, but did not support all the hypothesised relationships between these variables. The implications of the statistically significant and insignificant relationships obtained are discussed and the utility of SEM as a means of validating a conceptual model is confirmed

In addition to acquainting the public with the culture of a particular region, cultural tourism creates economic opportunities. Taking into account various tourist sites, museums are definitely among the most important ones. In Iran, the National Museum is one of the most important museums because of its rich collection of historical monuments related to the ancient Persia and Islamic periods. The authors of this article analyse the role of the National Museum of Iran in the development of the country’s cultural tourism. The analysis is based on information obtained from the database of the Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization and the National Museum of Iran. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling were employed for data analysis. The results confirm the importance of the National Museum of Iran in the development of cultural tourism.

This study investigated the question of whether environmental sustainability influences firm performance. Firm performance, a multidimensional construct, was researched utilizing innovation, ecological and social measures on the premises of SMEs in South Africa. Thus, the study hypothesized that environmental sustainability is positively and significantly related to innovation, ecological and social measures of firm performance. A cross-sectional research design was adopted in this study to test the abovementioned hypotheses. A total of 208 self-administered questionnaires distributed to SME owners and managers were analyzed utilizing structural equation modelling (SEM) and Amos Version 24 software. Primarily, the study established that environmental sustainability was significantly and positively correlated to all three measures of firm performance used in this study. Thus, the inferences from the findings suggest that environmental sustainability practices contribute positively towards firm innovation, ecological and social performances. The findings of this study greatly contribute towards the practice and theory of small businesses and firm performance by providing a more specific and streamlined perspective for approaching firm performance.

The objective of this study was to assess the construct validity and internal consistency of the Psychological Empowerment Questionnaire (PEQ) for employees in selected organisations in South Africa. A cross-sectional survey design with a convenient sample (N = 1405) was used. The PEQ was administered. Structural equation modelling conf rmed a four-factor model for the PEQ, consisting of competence, meaning, impact and self-determination. A cross-validation study conf rmed the construct equivalence of the four-factor model for a study sample (n = 679) as well as a replication sample (n = 726) that was randomly selected for the total sample. The subscales showed acceptable internal consistencies.

PurposeThe purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of cognitive tasks on mentoring provided and the moderating influence of having an educational leadership position.Design/methodology/approachThis cross-sectional survey was based on a questionnaire sent to 435 employees of 29 preschools in Norway. A total of 284 responses were returned, with a response rate of 65.3%. A total of three research hypotheses were formulated. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to develop three measurement models, and structural equation modelling (SEM) based on the multigroup analysis was used to test the hypotheses.FindingsResults revealed that cognitive tasks increase the occurrence of mentoring provided at work for employees with and without an educational leadership position. Furthermore, educational leadership moderates the relationship between cognitive tasks and mentoring provided.Research limitations/implicationsThe use of convenience sampling and self-reports are discussed, especially related to representativeness and reporting biases. Implications for practice and future research are also discussed.Originality/valueThis is an understudied area, and no previous research has used a confirmatory approach to investigate how cognitive tasks and educational leadership influence the occurrence of mentoring provided.

In this fragmented industrial world, where there are large capital movements, the varied pattern of global trade, fierce challenges and considerable innovations, the holistic approach in workplaces has become a dream! The subtle aspect of the understanding, initiative, cooperation that flows to industrial harmony is essential in organizations to reduce the risk of relapsing into conflicts and strengthens the foundation of its sustainability. The paper probes into the factors that would create and allow industrial harmony and peace to hold and flourish. This would help employees reinforce each other, obtain mental serenity, create a base for realization of their creative potential and stand firm amidst a myriad of challenges and strained situations. Descriptive research with a cross-sectional survey has been conducted on the employees of the selected manufacturing units of West Bengal. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis has been performed with structural equation modeling on the proposed research model. The prime findings of the study reveal that organizational trust and infusing a tolerant attitude toward conflict in a firm has been instrumental in instilling a sense of harmony and peace in one’s mind and spirit. Such an ambience would generate a sense of participation, cooperation and would mutually reinforce social exchange.

The study was largely quantitative and employed the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) as its theoretical lens. The target population was 31,157 consisting of library staff and library patrons from four academic libraries in Ghana. Sampling tables and census sampling techniques were used to select a sample size of 767 respondents. Adopting a cross-sectional survey design, the study used a pre-tested questionnaire to collect data from the sampled respondents. Statistical analyses were carried out using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. The structural equation modelling technique was further used to estimate the relationships and correlations between the theoretical constructs from the UTAUT to understand behavioural intentions and use behaviour of social media in the academic libraries. The study found that performance expectancy, effort expectancy and facilitating conditions have significant influence on the intention to use and subsequent use of social media in academic libraries in Ghana.

This empirical study was a cross-sectional survey examining the four subdimensions of university transformation among the six universities in the central region of Uganda. Questionnaires were distributed to 820 volunteers randomly chosen from the university staff and the data generated was subjected to a confirmatory factor analysis. The essence was due to the fact that structural equation modelling requires a big number of sample size to measure the validity and reliability of the hypothesized measurement model of university transformation construct.  The findings exhibited that the data was fit and appropriate for predicting the four subdimensions of university transformation construct. In addition, the findings reflected a relationship between the four subdimensions of university transformation construct. Implying that when university transformation practices are put into consideration universities would be able to achieve their strategic development and transformation. The study concluded by exhibiting the foundation on which future studies can base to extend the understanding and emphasis on the four subdimensions used in measuring university transformation.

Despite its usefulness in business settings, very little is known about branding in the lens of higher education. The purpose of this study was to examine special critical incidents during service encounter performance whichcan trigger brand evangelism. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey research design,data were collected through administering semi-structured questionnaires to 241 students of one public university in Tanzania. Structural Equation Modelling was used to analyse data due to its strength in testing relationship between variables with multiple measurement items. The findings reveal that, service encounter performance that create unique memorable experience is very useful in triggering brand evangelism. It is recommended that, the best model of HEIs branding should consider students as the central point to HEIs brand. Therefore, HEIs should strive to proselytize students to be brand evangelists by ensuring that each service encounter produce critical incidents that create memorable experience and eventually love to HEIs brand.

this study examines the brand attitudes of smartphone user. In particular, it examines how users self-image congruence can affect their brand attitudes towards smartphone products. Previous research indicates that self-congruence can facilitate positive behavior and attitude towards products. This research used cross-sectional survey explanatory method and structural equation modelling approach to test the hypothesis. A questionnaire was sent to 200 smartphone users in Bandung. Results indicate that self–congruence was a good predictor of user's brand attitude.

Introduction: This study aimed to identify factors associated with individual emergency preparedness behaviors which play an important role in effective emergency response.Methods: Data were drawn from a cross-sectional survey conducted in China's Heilongjiang, Guangdong and Sichuan provinces in 2017. Questionnaires were administered through face-to-face interviews, and 2,506 were valid for data analyses. A structural equation model was established to test the direct and indirect effects of the relevant factors on individual emergency preparedness behaviors.Results: Low levels of emergency preparedness were found: 28% of respondents reported being fully/partly prepared. The attitudes of the respondents toward emergency preparedness had the strongest association with emergency preparedness behaviors, with a total effect of 0.483. This was followed by self-efficacy (0.305) and training/exercise (0.295). Risk perception had the weakest effect (0.045) on emergency preparedness behaviors.Discussion: Improving attitudes of the public as well as their ability to prepare for emergency events is important for effective emergency management.
