ABSTRACT Ethics in educational research is a fundamental factor that should be considered for the realization ofstudies that include the participation of diverse subjects. Researchers must face complex scenarios andcomplete it with a series of national and international guidelines that are intended to respect the rightsof people who undergo the research process specifically in the field of education. For this reason, thereare international instruments and their main elements are ethical principles that include considerationsabout the person, to prevent it from being a simple object studied. However, in the inquiry activity thereare different ethical problems that are related to the participants, the incorrect use of the research, theresearcher, the plagiarism and the use of false data. In relation to the ethical act in educational research, educators must responsibly conduct their studies without harming any human being. The results affirmthat the ethics applied to the research in education provides to the investigators theoretical, methodological and normative foundations on the moral to achieve the development of the inquiringprocess in a coherent way. The objective of this work of bibliographical review is to describe theimportance of the ethics in educational research.

The unidimensionalization of language and the theoretical fragilization of the educational investigative field: challenges for research in education  Abstract: Based on the Marcusean concept of unidimensional language, the present essay intends to problematize this theme in relation to its implications in the field of educational research. The non-use of the concept and the excess of meaning that the two-dimensional language brings in itself results in the theoretical fragility strongly felt in the field of educational research, which results, in the last instance, the difficulty of validating its knowledge. In this sense, we defend the importance of resuming theoretical studies, as well as the adequate work of the concept and the universals, as essential conceptual instruments in the research that wishes to consider all the complexity of the field of education.  Keywords: one-dimensional language; educational research; theory; empiria; formation. The author draws on the natural and social sciences to illustrate differences and interactions between applied and basic research in education. From this discussion he concludes that there is ample justification for further financial and intellectual support of the basic research component in education, and calls for a better balance in the support of basic and applied educational research.

Recent texts on globalisation and education policy refer to the rapid flow of education policy texts producing or responding to common trends across nation states with the emergence of new knowledge economies. These educational policies are shaping what counts as research and the dynamics between research, policy, and practice in schools, creating new types of relationships between universities, the public, the professions, government, and industry. The trend to evidence-based policy and practice in Australian schools is used to identify key issues within wider debates about the ‘usefulness’ of educational research and the role of universities and university-based research in education in new knowledge economies.

Palabras clave: creatividad, innovación, educación, creencias, actitudes.ABSTRACT: This paper conceives creativity as an acquirable skill, as a trait shared by every human being. Hhowever, creativity must be developed: the ability of being creative is a blend of knowledge, attitude and skills that can only be learnt through practice. It is about having new ideas and departing from habitual pathways traced by everyday experience in order to obtain new outputs. It is essential to stimulate creativity in school in order to be able to handle efficiently today’s new challenges, which present themselves in different areas of our lives. Teaching creativity is therefore a strategy for the future.

Predicting students’ academic performance has long been an important area of research in education. Most existing literature have made use of traditional statistical methods that run into the problems of overfitted models, inability to effectively handle large numbers of participants and predictors, and inability to pick out non-linearities that may be present. Regression-based ML methods that can produce highly interpretable yet accurate models for new predictions, are able to provide some solutions to the aforementioned problems. The present study is the first study that develops and compares between traditional MLR methods and regression-based ML methods (i.e. ridge regression, LASSO regression, elastic net, and regression trees) to predict students’ science performance in the PISA 2015. A total of 198,712 students from 60 countries, and 66 student- and school-related predictors were used to develop the predictive models. Predictive accuracy of the various models built were not that different, however, there were significant differences in the predictors identified as most important by the different methods. Although regression-based ML techniques did not outperform traditional MLR, significant advantages for using ML methods were noted and discussed. Moving forward, we strongly believe that there is merit for using such regression-based ML methods in educational research. Educational research can benefit from adopting ML practices and methods to produce models that can not only be used for explaining factors that influence academic performance prediction, but also for making more accurate predictions on unseen data.

Artificial intelligence has countless advantages in our lives. On the one hand, computer’s capacity to store and connect data is far superior to human capacity. On the other hand, its “intelligence” also involves deep ethical problems that the law must respond to. I say “intelligence” because nowadays machines are not intelligent. Machines only use the data that a human being has previously offered as true. The truth is relative and the data will have the same biases and prejudices as the human who programs the machine. In other words, machines will be racist, sexist and classist if their programmers are. Furthermore, we are facing a new problem: the difficulty to understand the algorithm of those who apply the law. This situation forces us to rethink the criminal process, including artificial intelligence and spinning very thinly indicating how, when, why and under what assumptions we can make use of artificial intelligence and, above all, who is going to program it. At the end of the day, as Silvia Barona indicates, perhaps the question should be: who is going to control global legal thinking?

We explore “ Unapologetic Educational Research: Addressing Anti-Blackness, Racism, and White Supremacy” to engage scholars in thinking about and reflecting on what it means to conduct qualitative research from a standpoint that honors Black lives in the research process while also disrupting racism and white supremacy. First, we unapologetically take up topics including engaging “diversity” in qualitative research, interrogating the etic perspective in the “new” focus on race, using critical perspectives to inform research and practice, examining the racialization of positionality, focusing on Black women educational leaders, and engaging schools and communities. Next, we engage in dialogue with each other to push ourselves—and you/the reader—to think more deeply about the serious and potentially dangerous implications of our research decisions. Given the unprecedented historical present we are all experiencing in our lifetime, we are committed to shifting the landscape of qualitative research as well as using research to shift our sociopolitical context toward racial equity and justice.

An emerging trend in education research methods is to integrate digital technologies into the research process. Electronic focus groups represent one such innovation. Drawing on four examples of research and practice undertaken using a synchronous, digital system, this chapter reflects on how an innovative tool can assist in focus group research in the fields of school and higher education. The examples presented illustrate how some of the theoretical, practical and ethical problems that have arisen with traditional approaches to focus groups research can be overcome. It is anticipated that reflecting on such experiences and building upon the findings of these research projects will enable an understandings about the potential for innovative practices in education research that are possible with digital technologies.
