The article analyses the current realities of consumer behaviour, the reasons that prompted the population to change the vector of their consumer strategies, global and Russian trends in consumption. The economic and political upheavals of recent years, consisting in the food embargo, the devaluation of the ruble, the decline in buyers’ incomes have led retailers and their suppliers to understand and respond quickly to the transformation of the needs of the population, its resource capabilities and motivations for buying. The development of digital technologies, online market, the emergence of innovative instruments of the transaction entails the formation of new trends in consumption that require constant evaluation and monitoring. Data on customer behaviour in combination with demographic trends, indicate a steady shift, which leads to the fact that purchases will be more deliberate and targeted. Demonstrative consumption will give way to a more practical one. A free search of the transaction will be replaced by higher selectivity of purchases and the use of equipment and tools that have emerged during the crisis.

The article provides an overview and assessment of consumer trends that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic from both a global and local perspective (Russia). The authors investigate perception of change and adaptive consumer behaviour, as well as the tactical capabilities of luxury brands interested in expanding the market while maintaining a premium brand with its values and history. First of all, the market in the luxury segment is shown through the lens of changes that have arisen in consumer behaviour in connection with the development of digital technologies. Taking this factor into account, the authors study the reactions of consumer behaviour that appeared in the new pandemic reality, and with the use of statistics of search queries based on Google and Yandex data, they show how global trends are manifested in the Russian market. The study reveals that against the background of global trends in consumer behaviour there was a more significant adaptation of the Russian population to new conditions, and in some cases specificity of consumer behaviour manifested itself in the local market at different stages of the dynamics of coronavirus spread. Based on the analysis of new trends, recommendations are given on what technologies luxury brands can use in the conditions of pandemic decline in the Russian market to match consumer requests in new realities. The research may be of interest to marketing and management professionals, as well as researchers in this field of sociology and industry management.

Abstract Background Esophageal cancers (ECs) are more prevalent in the East Asian countries of the world, wherein squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) are the predominant histological subtype. In contrast, the patterns in the West are a bit heterogeneous, with esophageal adenocarcinoma (AC) being the more frequent histological subtype. There is very sparse published Indian data pertaining to the demographic trends of ECs. Materials and Methods Our study was a retrospective analysis of the demographic trends of 917 patients afflicted with ECs who were managed at our center over a 10-year period. Results and Discussion EC accounted for nearly 4.1% of the total cancer burden managed at our center from January 2002 to December 2011. The mean age of our patient cohort was 54.2 years. The male:female ratio was nearly 1.7:1. Tobacco chewing was noted in 25.4%, smoking in 37%, while alcohol consumption was noted in approximately 20% of the patients. SCC was the most common histological subtype (78.3%), while ACs constituted only 9.9%. Eighty-nine percent of our patients presented with locally advanced staged tumors. Definitive chemoradiation was the most common modality of definitive management then; however, over the years, our preferred choice of the management of ECs has shifted to neoadjuvant chemoradiation, followed by surgery in the carefully selected patients of locally advanced resectable ECs. Conclusion Our study clearly shows SCC to be the most common histological subtype among ECs, a trend that has been observed in the vast majority of the East Asian nations. The epidemic rise in the incidence of esophageal ACs as seen in the West is not seen in our study. Periodic monitoring of the demographic trends of ECs is of great importance both for clinicians and policymakers. We hope that our study will enlighten both policy holders and clinicians to better channelize the efforts toward prevention and more effective management of this deadly cancer.

The directions for the development of digitalization in the banking sector of the Russian Federation are proposed: the introduction of a financial messaging system to reduce the dependence of the banking sector on international organizations, the introduction of regtech, the use of international experience, based on global trends in the use of fintech and digital technologies in general.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to systematically review the existing literature on Islamic marketing and its major impacts on consumer behaviours. In addition, this study seeks to shed light on global trends and dynamics beyond Islamic marketing and how Islam, as one of the most prominent religions worldwide, affects the consumption and purchasing choices of Muslim consumers. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review of published peer-reviewed articles on Islamic marketing was conducted. A comprehensive search strategy was applied on different databases, including Google Scholar, JSTOR, ScienceDirect, MUSE and Directory of Open Access Journals, and the retrieved articles were then selected from 14 leading journals published between 2010 and 2018. Findings Islam as a religion has been found to impact the ethical beliefs and behaviours of Muslim consumers from different countries, as well as consumers’ choice of services and some taboo products on the basis of Islamic Shariah law. The results show that Islamic marketing has a significant impact on the characteristics of Muslim consumers and therefore affects their key choices about certain products and services. Research limitations/implications The studies included in this review are extensively based on peer-reviewed articles published in high-ranked marketing journals (A* and A in the Australian Business Deans Council list), which may be perceived as a limitation in the present study. Another limitation is that this study only took into account peer-reviewed articles written in English. Practical implications The important relationship between Islam and the heterogeneous Muslim consumer will have a considerable practical implication for companies that explore the marketing supply capacity in the Islamic world. The authors hereby expect the current review to significantly impact the identification of methodologies for the main trends in the academic analysis of Islamic marketing and Islamic consumer behaviour. Originality/value This review provides a strong contribution to Islamic marketing literature by recommending the need to integrate the Islamic practices related to consumer consumption of goods and services in studies focused on consumer behaviour analysis.

The global trends of the constant increase in the digital component indicate that the economy is increasingly tilting into the “virtual plane”. Digital technologies are fundamentally changing almost all existing professional areas. Digitalization is not only fundamentally transforming labor relations, but also requires and facilitates the development of new forms of migration. A “transnational virtual space” is emerging, in which vast amounts of data across national borders without the physical movement of workers. With an aging population, virtual migration is becoming one of the most important conditions for the dynamic development of the digital economy. The purpose of this report is to investigate the algorithmic organization of work, combined with flexible labor relations and contributing to the inclusion of mobile labor in a stratified global labor market focused on the penetration of digital technologies into all sectors and spheres of life. The method used by the author is the analysis of the main trends in the development of virtual migration. The novelty of the study lies in examining the impact of digitalization not only on labor relations, but also, in terms of the development of new forms of mobility.
