The technological revolution causes changes in all aspects of life. It includes the educational spec. So that these changes also change all aspects in the world of education. One of the highlights in this paper is the relationship between teachers and students. The teacher initially becomes an important entity in the learning process. However, the presence of new media has replaced the teacher's position. It is no longer a central role in the educational process. Students have relied on gaining knowledge on technology. This phenomenon is contrary to the concept of Ahlussunnah Wal Jamaah education. Sanad continuity is an important thing in measuring the authenticity of knowledge. Not only that, the meaning of blessing is pinned on knowledge that has this sanad continuity. Seeing this phenomenon, the author assumes that technology has conducted teacher deauthorization in the education process of the new media era.

The topicality of the change of the educational paradigms in the national and global context forms a necessity and challenge for the higher education system to undergo the dynamic change in moving towards more individualised education process. The student-centred learning (SCL) approach as a topical form of implementation of the educational process conforms to the needs of contemporary society and as such advances growth at both individual as well as institutional level. The University website provides an insight into the implementation of the educational process by representing the mindset, values, and positions of individuals at the University. The aim of the research is to evaluate the representation of SCL approach on the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) website, thus offering conclusions and recommendations for its development. The results from the analysis of the descriptions of study programmes confirm that the representation of student-centred approach is taking place, however, it should be improved in such aspects as students’ and lecturers’ relationships, lecturers’ competencies, implementation of the partnership, and the digitalisation of the study process. Keywords: Student-centred learning, university website, representation.

The higher education system does not develop in isolation. It is directly dependent on the school system and the labor market. On the one hand, the educational results obtained at the University depend on the level of knowledge and skills that students received at the previous stage of education, on the other hand, the expected high quality of life, which is a key motivation for entering the University for the majority of the population, is determined by the state and structure of the labor market. It is the demand for productive labor that determines the effectiveness of the higher education system.

The relationship between teaching and research in universities has been widely studied in the higher education literature, but no clear relationship between the two has been identified. Nevertheless, in recent years, research has been linked to a form of teaching that is more focused on the development of competences and learning capacity through enquiry and the generation of new knowledge. In this context, it is important for teachers and students to work together on the design of shared spaces for research and learning. This work examines the case of the University of Barcelona to analyse whether there is enough connection between research and teaching to allow students to experience this link and to successfully develop research competences. Teaching plans of the academic year 2018-19 were screened to identify research-related competences, the modules they appear in, and the descriptions of the evaluation systems. This information was compared to the students’ perceptions of the actual training they had received on these research competences. Results showed that teaching plans establish numerous competences related to research and generating new knowledge. However, students consider that this knowledge is not developed until the final year project.

AbstractThe author reports her experience of and observations on the teaching of sociology at the Free University of Berlin. She examines the teaching behavior of the instructors, the relationship between colleagues, and those between teachers and students. Certain tendencies in the practice of teaching are viewed as expressing a form of coping by projection with the failures experienced in trying to reform studies, failures that are in fact caused by the unfavorable real conditions at the university. A tendency to make university teaching more like schooling is observed; reasons for this are found in the effects of pressure towards professional competition, which prevents both fruitful cooperation between instructors and genuine communication with students. The additional difficulties experienced by women in teaching are described. In the final section conclusions are drawn in the form of practical suggestions which take account of the actual possibilities of a university with very large numbers of students.
