The subject of this research focuses on the communicative and pragmatic structure of dramatic texts of the 17–18th centuries. The aim of this article is to analyse the miracle play “Oleksiy, the Man of God” (Alexius, the Man of God) as a communicative act. The method of semantic-stylistic analysis was used to elicit the semantic and stylistic peculiarities of the language means and patterns of their use. Context and situational analysis, as well as interpretative analysis, were used to identify textual elements with additional pragmatic meaning; the analysis of actual material was conducted in line with the principle of historicism, i.e. taking into account the correspondence of the linguistic and lingual stylistic system of the texts to the time of their creation. The Results of the Study. The dramatic text holds a specific place in the system of artistic communication, since it stands as a meaningful reproduction of the communicative process. A key feature of any dramatic text is dramatis personae that are put at the beginning of the play and who, as a rule, can be related to real people in real situations. The old Ukrainian baroque drama mainly takes the forms of drama mystery play and miracle play. The character system in “Oleksiy, the Man of God” reflects the social structure of society at that time, and the characters’ speech correlates with the speech of real people and stands as its textual embodiment. The process of author’s describing the real picture of the world is the main author’s intention, which coincides with the illocution in the dramatic text. The article analyses the communicative past and communicative future of certain characters. The analysis concentrates on the stylistic means used by the author to enhance the impact on the addressee and create the intended communicative effect, in particular wordplay techniques. The role of extratextual elements that help decode the author’s idea and achieve a perlocutionary effect has been determined. The prospects for further research include studying pragmatic and stylistic function of the phenomenon of variability of the speech genres in old Ukrainian texts of the 17–18th centuries.

The study is devoted to the development of accounting procedure and recording the financial results of bonds with a double currency denomination in accordance with International Financial Reporting standards (IFRS). The methodological base of the research includes system and dynamic-situational analysis, evaluation models of financial mathematics, accounting procedures of the theory of financial accounting. Based on the assumptions made at the formal mathematical level, this procedure is fully algorithmized, despite the ambiguity or impossibility of direct assessment of such basic accounting indicators as the initial estimate, the internal effective interest rate, and the amortized cost of a financial instrument. Considerable attention is paid to the issues of mathematical evaluation and reflection of financial results when preparing financial statements in accordance with the concept of amortized cost and effective interest rate, taking into account the impact of changes in the currency component in dynamics. The originality and uniqueness of the developed procedure is that it is applicable to the situations where coupon payments are paid several times a year. The theoretical and practical significance of the research is determined by the development of scientific and applied tools that include accounting and process models, evaluation algorithms and procedures that can be used by accounting and audit departments in practical work when solving problems of reporting in accordance with IFRS.

Social work in the Czech Republic is confronted with the impact of global neoliberalism, which is manifested by privatisation of social services, individualisation of social risks and economisation. Reflexivity of social workers working with vulnerable children and their families has the potential to lead to a higher quality of social work, strengthening of social workers' identity, and empowering social workers to promote changes in everyday practice. Meeting this potential requires an understanding of constructing reflexivity by social workers, which is the objective of this paper. We used a qualitative research strategy, particularly group and individual interviews with social workers and their analysis using current approaches to grounded theory. Concerning data analysis, we found out that constructing reflexivity (nature and subject of reflexion) derives from the perceived roles of social workers (social worker as an ununderstood artist, social worker a as mediator between social and individual, social workers as an agent of a (society) change, social workers as an agent of normalisation and reflexive professional). The acquired data, within the situational analysis, was inserted into a position map on the scale of holistic and technical reflection. The conclusion discusses the implication for practice and education in social work.

The aim of this paper is not only to determine and compare the nature of capital structure but also its effect on company performance of engineering industry of USA and Bangladesh. We utilize a panel data methodology based on a sample of 34 listed engineering companies of Bangladesh on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and a mixture of 34 (small, medium and large) engineering companies listed in NASDAQ in USA during the period of study from 2012 to 2019. Our empirical results indicate that the capital structure of engineering industry of USA and that of Bangladesh is different. Also, we demonstrate that capital structure has negative effect on company profitability of engineering industry of USA. Capital structure presents a negative effect on Earning per Share and Return on Assets (ROA) and positive influence on Return on Equity (ROE) and Tobin’s Q of engineering industry of Bangladesh. We conclude that the impact of capital structure on company’s profitability by only one sector and then compare the findings to know the real picture of the link. Investors, auditors, analysts and practitioners should consider many factors to examine the banking performance. Our results from this study may relate to Asian countries with similarities in engineering industry to that in Bangladesh.

Purpose The paper aims to examine the question whether legislative reform is the silver bullet for the problems generated by the failure of a company which is exposed to claims arising from the non-fulfilment of its environmental obligations. The limited capacity of the UK insolvency regime to facilitate the fulfilment of a debtor company’s environmental obligations is often illustrated with reference to some significant judicial decisions. However, no real picture has emerged of the frequency with which these issues arise, based on which firm proposals for reform could be advanced. This paper argues that greater regard should be paid to existing mechanisms which provide a means of enabling insolvency risks to be managed or minimised because these point towards the scope for these issues to be resolved through the environmental protection framework rather than through reliance on company and/or insolvency law. Design/methodology/approach Research was conducted into the statutory and non-statutory regulations (such as statutory guidance) and case law principles, which underpin the treatment of the claims against an insolvent (or potentially insolvent) company resulting from its environmental activities. This included research into policies which have a bearing on this area, developed through governmental and civic consultations and studies. Findings The paper concludes that the likelihood of a case for legislative reform being made out is weak, and the focus should accordingly shift to strengthening the effectiveness of existing law, policy and practice. Originality/value This paper is the first (in the UK context) to challenge the perceived need for reform in this area, engaging with recent examples of such corporate failures and the impact of recent legislative and policy developments.

What we think and what we read has more influence on our political attitudes as adults. Much of our political information comes from literature. The amount of time the average person spends watching television becomes a dominant force to how we view the world. We see books such as Harry Potter and the Wizard of Oz tell a story that is brings a message on the political landscape of a nation, as Dorothy’s party returns after killing the Witch of the West, the Wizard keeps them waiting, then puts them off. Short stories and novels that make the reader feel that they are getting to know real people dealing with believable situations can be considered literature that is realistic fiction. This type of fiction has been found in the stories of fiction shows that the impact of characters has a direct influence on reader’s decision-making and world view.
