The article deals in studying how the value of the external attractiveness of young women influences various aspects of their life in society. The data are given, allowing to describe that value as basic, having the motive-forming and compensatory functions. The results are presented that reveal a high degree of importance of appearance for young women: achieving a higher social status, a luxurious life, a successful career in management and entrepreneurship. The author sees the regularity in the relationship between external attractiveness and agharmonic components of the initiative, egoism and selfishness. He also outlines a negative relation between the significance of the considered value and the attitude to labor and work. When the appearance is attained too much of significance with the young women, they tend to get rid of some generally accepted norms. At the same time, girls associate the value of their attractiveness with well-being in interpersonal relationships and life success.

Winkler and colleagues investigate the relationship between social status and well-being among the Guale from St. Catherines Island in Spanish Florida (A.D. 1607–1680). Specifically, they examine stress through dental caries, linear enamel hypoplasias, tooth size, and long bone length. Their analysis of mortuary data identifies postcontact social status variation on the basis of funerary offerings and proximity to the altar, and they integrate ethnohistorical evidence to enrich their interpretations. While Winkler and colleagues do not find any direct relationship between stress markers and mortuary offerings, there were spatial relationships between involving well-being and proximity (or distance) from the altar. While the study of colonialism in Spanish Florida has a long history, this work at St. Catherines Island represents new directions involving the spatial dimensions of mortuary and skeletal data on an intracemetery level. Winkler and colleagues conclude with discussions about their findings within the context of Spanish colonialism in Spanish Florida and the implications for bioarchaeology of colonialism.

PPsychologycal well-being affects mental health, social functioning, interpersonal relationships, health, and adaptability. There are several factors that influence psychologycal well-being, such as meaning, purpose in life, and religiosity. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the meaningfulness of life and the regularity of praying with psychologycal well-being in the 2016 class year students at the Faculty of Usuluddin and Religious Studies of UIN Raden Intan Lampung. The hypothesis proposed in this study is that there is a relationship between the meaningfulness of life and the regularity of praying with psychologycal well-being in students. The subjects in this study were students in 2016 at the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Religious Studies of UIN Raden Intan Lampung totaling 70 people taken by propotionate random sampling technique. Data collection methods in this study used three psychological scales namely the psychological well-being scale with 33 items (α = 0.889), the scale of meaningfulness of life with 25 items (α = 0.843) and the regular scale for praying with 49 items (α = 0.958). The data that has been collected is then analyzed using multiple regression analysis techniques assisted by the SPSS 21.0 for Windows program. The results showed that Rx1.2y = 0.530 with a value of F = 13.082 with p = 0.000 (p <0.01) which means the hypothesis is accepted that there is a significant positive relationship between the meaningfulness of life and the regularity of prayer with psychologycal well-being in students with R2 = 0.281. The ability of life and regular prayers contributed 28.1% to psychologycal well-being. The second result with rx1y = 0.302 with p = 0.011 (p <0.05) which showed a significant positive relationship between meaningfulness of life with psychologycal well-being in the 2016 class year students at the Faculty of Usuluddin and Religious Studies of UIN Raden Intan Lampung. The third result with rx2y = 0.518 with p = 0,000 (p <0.05) which shows a significant positive relationship between the regularity of prayer and psychologycal well-being in students.

The results of a comparative empirical study of the psychological well-being of people of elderly age are presented in the article. We tried to test the hypothesis that the psychological well-being of people in elderly age is determined by a number of social factors (involvement in professional activities and the presence of close interpersonal relationships). We tried to determine which components cause a high level of psychological well-being in the elderly age. In the result of the study we found that working respondents have more autonomy than non-working respondents. They have a high degree of responsibility and high self-esteem. They are satisfied with the quality of their lives. The connection between marital status as a factor of close interpersonal relationships and levels of psychological well-being of a people in elderly age was not found. It was found that average and high levels of psychological well-being of people of elderly age are determined by such components as a high subjectness of personality, selfworth, meaningfulness of life, presence of life goals, life satisfaction, satisfaction with the results of life, ability to life management, interest in life, positive self-esteem, positive mood, consistency in achieving goals and consistency between the set and achieved goals.

This chapter considers the purpose and goals of Calvinist moral discipline, based on biblical precedent. It details popular reaction to the consistories, and considers the church’s disciplinary priorities: eradicating superstition and popular culture, punishing illicit sexuality, ensuring harmony, and dealing with public misconduct. Next, we examine the membership of the consistory—the identity of ministers and elders, their social status, and the process of co-optation on to the consistory. We consider the relationship between sacred and secular governance, and the overlap among consuls, councillors, and elders. We examine the operation of the consistory—the nature of interrogations, the reliance on hearsay, the shaming punishments it inflicted, its other responsibilities beyond moral discipline, and the links between Protestant churches. Finally, given the consistory’s agenda of enforcing patriarchy, we consider their attempts to implement domestic patriarchy, and their preoccupation with women’s appearance and sexuality, seen in their crusades against women’s clothing and prostitution.

AbstractObjectiveThe present study explores the relationship between neuroactive hormones and religious commitment. We hypothesised that religious commitment is mediated by neuropeptide Y and oxytocin. These neurohormones have a well-established role in general well-being, anxiety regulation, stress-resilience, social affiliation and spirituality.MethodsSixty healthy women (median age 21) participated in the study and completed the Religious Commitment Inventory and other psychometric surveys. Blood was sampled from each participant and serum levels of neuropeptide Y were measured using radioimmunoassay. Oxytocin, stress and sex hormones were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Correlations were tested using non-parametric statistical methods.ResultsWe found a positive correlation between serum neuropeptide Y levels and religious commitment, but not between oxytocin and religious commitment.ConclusionsThe present study provides preliminary evidence that neuropeptide Y is a biological correlate of religious commitment.

Depression constitutes the most common mental disorder and is associated with problems of emotional, physical and cognitive nature, causing a decrease in well-being, placing a strain on mental health, which ultimately threatens the quality of life. In fact, it tends to become the second most important cause of morbidity and disability in the world after ischemic heart disease. At the same time, exercise and physical activity present as a viral determining factor in the effort to halt the prevalence of the disease. This study examined the relationship between weekly physical activity and depression levels in a sample of seventy Greek adult citizens. Participants completed the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) and the Godin Leisure-Time Exercise Questionnaire (GLTEQ). The two questionnaires demonstrated high reliability, and participants who demonstrated a high degree of exercise showed a minimal degree of depression. Using linear regression, it was evident that the effect of physical activity on depression was statistically significant, as the increase in physical activity corresponded with a decrease in the degree of depression. The findings of this study support the view that exercise is an effective proposition for preventing and treating depression.

Article visualizations:

People build and maintain emotional bonds along their entire life cycle. The way of bonding, that is, the style of attachment, is a consequence of the relationship mental models constructed during their affective experiences. Individuals with insecure attachment report high anxiety and/or high avoidance in establishing interpersonal relationships. These people could especially benefit from learning appropriate strategies to regulate their emotions, and thus increase their level of well-being. The aim of this paper is to study the relationship between attachment and subjective well-being in young Spanish people, considering emotional regulation as a mediating variable. 126 young people (61.9% female) between the ages of 19 and 26 participated (MeanAge = 24.16; SDAge = 3.54). The Intimate Relationship Experiences questionnaire (ECR-S), the Spanish Meta-State of Mood Scale (TMMS-24), the Life Satisfaction Scale (SWLS) and the Positive and Negative Experience Scale (SPANE) were used. Correlation and mediation analyses were performed using SPSS version 24.0 and PROCESS. The results indicate that emotional regulation mediates the relationship between attachment anxiety and well-being. Avoidance of intimacy is not related to emotional regulation or well-being. The importance of enhancing well-being in youth through emotional education is highlighted, especially in young individuals with anxious attachment traits.
