Currently, the number of non-communicable diseases (PTM) is quite large and causes considerable morbidity and mortality. Globally PTM the number one cause of death every year is heart disease and blood vessels (cardiovascular). Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) states that more than 17 million people worldwide die from heart and blood vessel disease. Based on data from Riset Kesehatan Dasar (Riskesdas) in 2018, the incidence of heart and blood vessel disease has increased from year to year. At least, 15 out of 1000 people, or about 2,784,064 individuals in Indonesia suffer from heart disease. Cardiovascular disease often attacks productive age. Early detection is very important as a primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. The participants of this activity were 32 employees of the Mataram University Rectorate. Early detection of risk factors for cardiovascular disease is carried out through several tests: (1) anthropometric examinations, including body weight, height, body mass index, waist circumference, and body fat percentage, (2) blood pressure, and (3) blood samples examintaion to check fasting blood sugar levels and lipid profiles, which include triglyceride levels, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol. From the results of the activity, it was found that the mean value of all types of examinations was abnormal, except for the levels of triglycerides and total cholesterol. Thus, in general, it can be said that participants have a high enough risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

The aim of the present study is to investigate the prevalance of chronic kidney disease (CKD), of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and dyslipidemia in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). We conducted a prospective, controlled study involving 420 diabetic patients (120 T1DM, 300 T2DM) and investigate the following aspects: the presence of vascular complications (stroke, coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease), lipid profile (total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglycerides), kidney function (glomerular filtration rate, albuminuria), blood pressure, HbA1C. The results that in diabetic patients with CKD there is an increased prevalence of CVD and of dislipidemia. Also we noticed a negative correlation between total cholesterol level and decease in eGFR in all patients, with or without CKD.

Background: Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in India and worldwide. Hypertension is a major public health problem because of its high frequency and concomitant risk of cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and stroke. World Health Organization named it a Silent killer as hypertension is asymptomatic during its clinical course. Experimental evidence supports a role for oxidative stress in vascular injury and hypertension. This study was undertaken, to compare the serum levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and super-oxide dismutase (SOD) among normotensive, prehypertensive and hypertensive subjects. Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, 34 normotensives, 44 prehypertensive and 45 hypertensive subjects were included. The participants were subjected to selection protocol consisting of physical examination and biochemical analysis. All subjects underwent blood pressure measurement, total cholesterol, and oxidative stress marker estimation, especially SOD and MDA. The comparison of parameters between the group was carried out using One Way ANOVA. The correlation between the parameter was analyzed by Karl Pearson Correlation Coefficient using SPSS 20.0. Result : The MDA (nmol/ml) in normotensive, prehypertensive and hypertensive patients was 2.55±0.072, 3.43±0.44 and 4.01±0.37 respectively. SOD (U/ml) level in normotensive, prehypertensive and hypertensive patients was 13.47±1.96, 11.57±0.81, and 8.52±1.78 respectively. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure had a negative correlation with SOD. MDA levels show a positive correlation with systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. Total cholesterol had no significant with SOD and MDA. Conclusion: The present study showed a strong association of oxidative stress with systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Abstract Introduction: The burden of coronary artery disease (CAD) and peripheral vascular pathologies caused by atherosclerosis is constantly increasing. There is continuous research aiming to develop new methods that can evaluate the extent of atherosclerotic disease in different vascular beds, thus estimating global risk. Similar to carotid artery thickness, which is an established marker for increased cardiovascular risk and cerebrovascular disease, femoral intima-media thickness (f-IMT) may have the same role in case of peripheral arterial involvement. The aim of the study was determine whether f-IMT, determined at the level of the superficial femoral artery, is related to traditional risk factors, markers of peripheral vascular atherosclerosis and inflammation. Material and methods: Forty-six patients with known cardiovascular disease were included in the study. Demographical data, cardiovascular history, and risk factors were assessed. We determined metabolic parameters (uric acid, fasting glucose, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides), renal function (creatinine and GFR), and inflammation status for all patients. Each patient underwent ultrasound examination of the superficial femoral artery, by which f-IMT was determined for right and left limbs. Ankle-brachial index was also calculated. Data from the low (f-IMT <0.75 mm) and high (f-IMT >0.75 mm) f-IMT groups were compared and correlation coefficients were determined in each groups for f-IMT in relation to the other parameters. Results: Mean age was 71.08 ± 9.78 years. 86.95% of the patients suffered from hyper-tension, 56.62% had coronary heart disease, and 21.73% had a history of stroke. More females had history of hypertension and CAD. The most prevalent cardiovascular risk factors were dyslipidemia (68.86%), diabetes (21.73%), and smoking (21.73%). There were significant differences between gender groups for total cholesterol levels (161.36 ± 25.04 mg/dL, 95%CI 150.26–172.47 in males vs. 201.33 ± 52.73 mg/dL, 95%CI 170.07–223.60 in females, p = 0.02), creatinine values (1.04 ± 0.22 mg/dL, 95%CI 0.94–1.14 for males vs. 0.91 ± 0.23 mg/dL, 95%CI 0.81–1.00 for females, p = 0.018), and left f-IMT (0.87 ± 0.18 mm, 95%CI 0.79–0.95 for males vs. 0.75 ± 0.10 mm, 95%CI 0.70–0.79 for females, p = 0.0049). In the group with low f-IMT, a significant, reverse correlation was established between f-IMT, uric acid (r = −0.483, p = 0.042), and right ABI (r = −730, p = 0.0006). In the group with high f-IMT, age (r = 0.408, p = 0.031), fasting glucose (r = 0.407, p = 0.034), total cholesterol (r = 0.429, p = 0.02), HDL-cholesterol (r = −0.56, p = 0.0019), triglycerides (r = 0.45, p = 0.01), hs-CRP (r = 0.45, p = 0.01), and left ABI (r = −0.71, p <0.0001) showed a significant correlation to f-IMT. Conclusions: Increased femoral intima-media thickness is related to age, cardiovascular risk factors, and markers of peripheral arterial disease. Patients with higher f-IMT have a more augmented inflammatory status. Based on these correlations, in patients with cardiovascular disease, f-IMT could become a marker for increased cardiovascular risk.

Background: Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is widely prevalent across the globe and significantly high level of Cholesterol in circulation is a single major risk factor associated with coronary heart disease. It is well established that cardiovascular disease is associated with hypertension and elevated blood levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), total cholesterol, and triglycerides. In disparity, a low level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) is a risk factor for mortality from cardiovascular disease. Aim: The present study was conducted with the aim to assess the lipid profile in patients of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) undergoing coronary angiography (CAG) in rural coastal population. Patients and Methods: The present study was done on 62 patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) undergoing coronary angiography (CAG) Serum levels of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides were examined in biochemical laboratory of the hospital. Coronary angiography was performed for the presence of lesions. Results: 43.5% of the patients (n=27) were elderly (age>60 years). Approximately 82% of the patients (n=51) aged more than 50 years. Males outnumbered females with a ratio of 2.4:1. 71% of the patients were males. Mean cholesterol levels were 177.86 mg/dl. Approx 3/4th of the patients (n=41) had cholesterol level <200 mg/Dl. Mean triglycerides levels in the patients were 158.29 mg/dl. Only 11 patients out of 62 CAD patients had abnormal triglycerides. Mean LDL level was 119.5 mg and Mean HDL level was 34.5 mg %. The high plasma concentration of low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) in 30% and the low plasma concentration of high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) n 33% of patients were important abnormal findings in our patients. Conclusion: Dyslipidemia as in form of very low levels of HDL cholesterol with comparatively high levels of LDL-c with near normal total Cholesterol and triglyceride levels associated with ACS in our rural costal region of Maharashtra.

ABSTRACT Increased blood pressure more than 140/90 mmHg taken from three measurement in 24 hours can be diagnosed as hypertension. Abnormality of lipid values condition was found at many hypertensive. Based on this reason examination of lipid profile in hypertensive and normotensive should be done. The aim of this research was to measure and compare lipid profile on blood serum in hypertensive    and normotensive. Lipid profile was measured by Konelab 20XT clinical chemistry analyzer. Ex     Post Facto used as method and Cross-sectional used as design. A total of 50 blood samples collected from Hypertensive (N1=25) and normotensive (N2=25) from June to August 2014. SPSS 16.0 was used to analyze the data, T-test was used to compare value of LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and total cholesterol while U Mann-Whitney test was used to compare value of triglyceride. The result      of this research showed that the mean value of triglyceride was 146.56 mg/dL in hypertensive and 143.92 mg/dL in normotensive (p=0.11). The mean value of LDL cholesterol was 129.80 mg/dL in hypertensive and 136.72 mg/dL in normotensive (p=0.62). The mean value of HDL cholesterol was  38.80 mg/dL in hypertensive and 45.04 mg/dL in normotensive (p=0.1). The mean value of total cholesterol was 201.04 mg/dL in hypertensive and 221.88 mg/dL in normotensive (p=0.25). In conclusion, there was no different of lipid profile on blood serum in hypertensive and normotensive.  Keywords: hypertension, lipid profile, normotensive

Abstract Background Galectin-3 binding protein (Gal3BP), sCD163, galectin-3, and depression have been linked to cardiovascular disease and mortality. In patients with type 1 diabetes, female sex has also been linked to cardiovascular disease and mortality. The aim was to explore whether female sex, sCD163, galectin-3, and depression were associated with Gal3BP in patients with type 1 diabetes. We adjusted for metabolic variables, creatinine, smoking, physical inactivity, and cardiovascular disease. Methods Cross-sectional design. Patients with type 1 diabetes (n = 285, women 44%, age18–59 years, diabetes duration 1–55 years) were consecutively recruited from one diabetes outpatient clinic. Blood samples, anthropometrics, and blood pressure were collected, supplemented with data from electronic medical records. High Gal3BP was defined as ≥3.3 mg/l (≥80th percentile). Depression was assessed by a self-report instrument. Linear and logistic regression models were elaborated for the associations and calibrated and validated for goodness of fit with the data variables. Results Median (q1, q3) Gal3BP was 2.3 (1.8, 3.1) mg/l. The prevalence of high Gal3BP for women was 30% and 14% for men (p = 0.001). Female sex (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) 3.0), sCD163 (per μg/l) (AOR 6.6), and total cholesterol (per mmol/l) (AOR 1.6) were positively associated with high Gal3BP, and HDL-cholesterol (per mmol/l) (AOR 0.2) was negatively associated with high Gal3BP. Conclusions High Gal3BP levels were associated with female sex, increasing sCD163 and total cholesterol levels, and decreasing HDL-cholesterol levels in patients with type 1 diabetes. The prevalence of high Gal3BP was more than twice as high in the women as in the men.

Metabolic syndrome is a constellation of clinical findings that identify individuals at higher than normal risk of developing diabetes mellitus or cardiovascular disease. There are two principal definitions, one emerging from the American National Cholesterol Education Program Expert Panel on Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults, and the other from the World Health Organization. Both definitions share the common elements of abdominal obesity, hypertriglyceridaemia, low HDL-cholesterol, hypertension and abnormal glucose regulation. The syndrome is relatively common across continents, and also among those without marked obesity. It is even more common among patients with major mental health disorders such as schizophrenia. Metabolic syndrome can be used to assess risk for cardiovascular disorder and death, and is an alternative to Framingham Risk Calculations. C-reactive protein may play an additional role in risk prediction. Ongoing monitoring for all components of the metabolic syndrome is necessary. Individuals at high risk require multimodal interventions, including lifestyle interventions and targeted medications as appropriate.

Abstract Context: Hepatic lipase influences metabolism of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), a risk factor for ischemic cardiovascular disease (ICD: ischemic heart disease and ischemic cerebrovascular disease). Objective: We tested the hypothesis that genetic variation in the hepatic lipase genetic variants V73M, N193S, S267F, L334F, T383M, and −480c&gt;t influence levels of lipids, lipoproteins, and apolipoproteins and risk of ICD. Design: For the cross-sectional study, we genotyped 9003 individuals from the Copenhagen City Heart Study; hereof were 8971 individuals included in the prospective study, 1747 of whom had incident ICD during 28 yr of follow-up. For the case-control studies, 2110 ischemic heart disease patients vs. 4899 controls and 769 ischemic cerebrovascular disease patients vs. 2836 controls, respectively, were genotyped. Follow-up was 100% complete. Results: HDL cholesterol was higher by 0.21 mmol/liter in S267F heterozygotes, by 0.06 mmol/liter in −480c&gt;t heterozygotes, and by 0.13 mmol/liter in −480c&gt;t homozygotes, as compared with noncarriers. These HDL increases theoretically predicted hazard ratios for ICD of 0.87 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.84–0.90], 0.96 (95% CI 0.95–0.97), and 0.91 (95% CI 0.89–0.94), respectively; this calculation assumes that genetically elevated HDL levels confer decreased risk similar to common HDL elevations. In contrast, when all cases and controls were combined, the observed odds ratios for ICD for these three genetic variants vs. noncarriers were 1.19 (0.76–1.88), 1.04 (0.96–1.13), and 1.08 (0.89–1.30), respectively. Hazard/odds ratios for ICD in carriers vs. noncarriers of the four remaining hepatic lipase genetic variants did not differ consistently from 1.0. Conclusion: Hepatic lipase genetic variants with elevated levels of HDL cholesterol did not associate with risk of ICD.
