In the globalization era, technology development grows rapidly. The development of technology accompanied with the decreasing of states defend attitude among Indonesian. This phenomenon evidenced by development of life that has been influenced by foreign culture, of sectarian solidarity, individualism, primordial, and the moral degradation of Indonesian which can threaten the integration of the nation. Education has an important role to deal with these problems. Teachers must be able to find instructional innovations that can be used to improve state defend attitude of students, because very important for future of the nation. Instructional innovation can be used by revive characters which it contains the values of state defend in the form of digital books. Lafran Pane is one of the Indonesian heroes who have thoughts about an intellectual's attitude towards the progress of the nation and state, especially students. Lafran Pane emphasized that student must be able to love their homeland, be hold on their beliefs, reform of thought in all fields, create harmony between religions, and be aware of their obligations as a fighter to elevate national dignity. Lafran Pane’s thought contain the values of state defense and moral can be integrated in education. This paper aims to provide learning innovations to improve state defend attitude of students.

A Review of: Hilton, J. III, & Wiley, D. (2010). The short-term influence of free digital versions of books on print sales. Journal of Electronic Publishing, 13(1). Objective – To determine whether the availability of free digital versions of books impacts print sales. Design – Quantitative data comparison. Setting – University Instructional Psychology Department. Subjects – A total of 41 books, each with a free digital version and a traditional print version. Methods – This study used Nielson BookScan data to track print book sales during a 16-week period, 8 weeks before a free digital version of the book became available and 8 weeks after the availability of the free digital version. The authors tracked 41 books and organized them into four categories. The first included 7 nonfiction books, the second consisted of 5 science fiction/fantasy books, the third included 5 science fiction/fantasy books released together by Random House, and the fourth group consisted of 24 science fiction/fantasy books released by Tor Books. The books released by Tor Books, unlike the other books in the study, were available by free download only if a person registered for Tor’s newsletter and the downloads were only available for one week. When a free digital book from any of the other three groups was released, it remained available for several weeks, and more often, indefinitely. Main Results – Combined print sales of the nonfiction titles in the first group increased 5% after the release of a free digital copy. The majority of the science fiction/fantasy books in the second group also had an increase in post-free release sales, with a combined increase of 26%. The combined sales of the Random House titles increased by 9% after the release of the free digital versions. However, in stark contrast to the results of the first three groups, the fourth group of Tor books had a combined decrease in print sales of 18%. While the authors were not able to explain this difference with certainty, they point out that the Tor model for releasing the free digital books (making the free books available for only one week and requiring registration in order to download the books) was substantially different from the models used by the other publishers. Conclusion – The study suggests a positive relationship may exist between free digital books and short-term print sales. However, the availability of free digital books did not always lead to increased print sales. The authors acknowledge a number of factors not fully accounted for, including the timing of the free digital release, the promotion it received, and the differences in the size of the audiences for the various books studied. Ultimately, however, the authors believe the data indicates that when free digital books are offered for a period of time longer than a week, without requiring registration, print sales will increase.

<p>Though first appeared in 1971, digital book technology has evolved especially since 2000s and it is relatively a new research area. Therefore, to better understand this phenomenon, a quantitative survey research was conducted in 2015 spring term in a state university in Turkey. The objective of the study is to explain current state of digital books within post-graduate students’ perspectives and to identify post-graduate student’s perceptions, attitudes and preferences related to digital books. In this regard, this research presents results of the survey. A total of 135 post-graduate students responded the questionnaire. The data regarding use of digital books in addition to demographics was collected through an online questionnaire and the findings were analyzed through descriptive statistics. In this sense, post-graduate students’ use of digital books, purposes to use, preferred devices, and most used features of digital books were examined. In addition to these questions, reasons not to use digital books and post-graduate students’ future attitude whether to use digital books or not were further investigated. Additionally, research directions for future implications were provided.</p>

The use of books today is inseparable from the rapid development of technology, one of the book developments that attracts a lot of interest from teachers is digital books. Digital books themselves are very suitable for complex and memorizing learning such as macroeconomics courses, the reason digital books are suitable for macroeconomic learning is that they can be carried anytime and anywhere. This study aims to see the feasibility of the product being developed, namely a digital book on macroeconomic material. The feasibility of the digital book made is divided into two, namely the feasibility of the experts and the feasibility of the sample (students). This research is an R&D type with the selected development model, namely the ADDIE development model. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling with a sample of 36 active students of economic education study program. There are 3 data collection instruments used including media and material expert validation instruments which have 10 statements and student response instruments totaling 28 statements. Analysis of the data used in the form of descriptive statistics. The results of material validation for both validators were 42 (very good) and 37 (good), then for media experts, a score of 38 (good) and 39 (good), while for student responses to the material aspect, a score of 29.25 (worth it) was obtained. , media aspect is 52.5 (very worth it), output aspect is 9.75 (worth it), and for all aspects is 91.5 (very worth it). Based on the results that have been obtained from the validation and small group trials, it shows that digital books on macroeconomic material are appropriate to be used as complementary learning resources in macroeconomics lectures.

BSE or Electronic School Book is a digital book that are used in many schools. But there are weeknesses of this electronic school book is not insert video content, either video of tutorials or video of illustrations and display of electronic school books still use the scroll effect. So it needs a video to stimulate the students to learn and give a flip effect to attract display of digital books or often called the E-Book. The purpose of this research to produce interactive multimedia electronic book (e-book) of learning media in the subjects of 3D Animation Techniques and 2D Animation Techniques at the Department of Multimedia SMK Negeri 3 Singaraja. This research has been done by using the research and development method in education field. E-book is developed based on subject that already exist in Multimedia majority, such as 2 Dimension Animation and 3 Dimension Animation. The display of e-book itself is designed like a real content or 3D with adding flip effect and inside of the material which is being developed, it has several multimedia contents such as picture, animation and video that can support the developing of interactive e-book. By using various software support, the results obtained from developing interactive multimedia e-book, there are changes in presentation in the form of a flip. The material is done with a real approach in the form of video, such as video of tutorials or video of illustrations. The results of the validation test of the validator using a questionnaire stating interactive multimedia electronic book (e-book) of learning media in the subject 3D Animation Techniques and 2D Animation Techniques in accordance with the concept of the material contained in the respective subjects.

In light of growing evidence that many parents are deeply concerned about their young children’s increasing technology use, in this paper we report on aspects of a study funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council, where we sought to understand parents’ views on children’s digital book reading. We introduced seven families to four award-winning digital books (story apps and e-books), observed how the mothers mediated their children’s digital book reading over a period of several weeks and subsequently interviewed the mothers about their shared reading experiences with the digital books. Focusing on the interview data and drawing on the theoretical framework of socio-materiality, this paper reports on how parents’ views about digital book features were entangled with their social perceptions of the value of digital reading. Analysis of parents’ accounts show three conflicted themes of trust/mistrust, agency/dependency and nostalgia/realism in parental attitudes towards their children’s reading on screens. The paper concludes with a discussion of how these findings regarding the unresolved dichotomies inherent in parental views about their children’s digital reading are highly relevant for future research on parental mediation of their children’s learning with digital media.

Design-based case studies address research questions that involve instructional innovations within a bounded system. This blend of case study and design-based research provides a systematic approach to examining instructional innovations that are bounded by perspective, context, and time. Design-based case studies provide a framework for engaging in iterative cycles of data collection and analysis that are used to determine how, why, and whether the goals of an instructional innovation have been met. The authors note common concerns surrounding case study and design-based research and how design-based case studies address these concerns by building on the strengths of both approaches.

The monograph by E. Deaner «The electronic book as a bibliological object» [«Elektronnaya kniga kak kategoriya knigovedeniya», 2017, in Russian] is analyzed. The monograph logically extends the previous book by the same author published in 2016, namely “Theoretical and methodological foundations of digital books as a bibliological category” [«Teoretikometodologicheskiye osnovy elektronnoy knigi kak kategorii knigovedeniya», in Russian].  The monograph is seen as a radical breakthrough in the modern Russian bibliology, as it tends to reconcile the traditional bibliology and new information technologies on which e-publishing and book distribution are based today. The author demonstrates that digital books completely matches the theoretical and practical provisions of bibliology and documentology being specific type of the document rather than a specific genre. The digital books can be blended seamlessly into the book culture phenomenon, to enrich it with a radically new and innovative object.  The high appraisal is given to the methodological approaches toward defining the concept of the digital book and its representation within the book communication system. The principle of the digital book ergonomics is examined in detail and is positively appraised, as well as the principle main factors, i.e.: the material, semantic, signatury, syntactic, pragmatic and temporal elements.The monograph content would enable to liven up the academic courses in bibliology and documentology. The librarians in collection development and digital collection development and bibliographers will make the readership of the monograph.

Facing the era of globalization, the younger generation continues to experience an identity crisis where the younger generation is more familiar with hero figures who do not reflect eastern values, especially those that are typically Indonesian which causes the young generation to lack concern for the nation; and reduced pride in Indonesia's nationalistic identity. Digital books or e-books are a technological development that utilizes computers used to display information in the form of text, images, audio, video and other multimedia in a concise and dynamic form that can be read by computers or other electronic devices. In this case, digital books are an alternative and the right solution for learning the history of heroism in the implementation of independent learning. The purpose of this paper is to determine the role of digital history books in teaching heroic values to students. This research is analyzed using qualitative research methods. The results and discussion are: the role of learning the history of heroes through digital book media that can make it easier to teach heroic values to students. So that students are able to emulate heroic values and actualize and serve as spirit values in the life of society, nation and state.

There are three stages in the technological history of the modern book industry as a scalable and mass production of books. The main attention is paid to the history of digital books, the beginning of which is associated not so much with the beginning of digital book production, but with the advent of digital distribution. On the technical side, this meant developing common industry standards for the digital book, building a distribution infrastructure based on the Internet, and gaining broadband access to it for the mass consumer. Equally significant were the cultural shifts that accompanied or resulted from this technical transformation. The digitalization of the book itself did not have a significant impact on the industry before the ubiquity of the Internet, since the sphere of existence of digital books was limited to a small number of qualified users. Everything changed in the first two decades of the 21st century, when the laws of the “attention economy” came into force and the mechanism of competition for the user’s time by content was activated. A digital book, on the one hand, is becoming more accessible; on the other hand, the time spent on reading books is being reduced. The development of computer technologies and the Internet, in addition to removing the barrier to access to content, removes a significant number of barriers to content publication. It is important to note that the publishing filter in the context of open publication also ceases to work in legal terms, and its disappearance led, in particular, to the emergence and rapid growth of fan fiction literature, which is in the “gray” zone of copyright. The spread of the Internet, of course, creates not only problems, but also opportunities for publishers, in particular, by changing communication with readers. The Internet has made possible not only direct communication with the reader and reader communities, but also a much more effective prompt response to readers’ requests, including those supported by compelling economic incentives. The changes that are taking place in the book industry at the third stage of technological transformation have a very heterogeneous effect on publishers in different countries, depending on the degree of market development, Internet penetration, and readers’ digital content habits. The main point is that these changes take place in very different ways in different types of book publishing. Obviously, “book”, whatever its definition one gives, is just a convenient collective format for completely different texts, materialized or embodied in digital form in different ways. At the same time, the functional purpose of the text and the way the reader treats it determine the trajectory along which the industrial niche corresponding to certain types of publications will develop, in which direction it will evolve.
