Advances in communication technology affect all aspects including aspects of education. An educator is required to create active, effective and fun teaching and learning activities. Related to this, the learning of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) is generally still monotonous in using learning media so that students feel bored in learning PAI. PAI’s teacher at SMK Wahana Karya tries to make an innovation in Islamic Education learning, namely by using Android-based mobile learning. This is based on the background of students who on average already use Android in everyday life. So, this study describes android-based mobile learning as a learning medium for Islamic religious education at SMK Wahana Karya. This research uses qualitative methods, where the researcher makes direct observations and interviews. Sources of data used are from school archives, school websites, interviews with principals, Islamic education teachers, and students of SMK Wahana Karya. The results of this study are, although there are still some obstacles, namely in terms of signal and classroom atmosphere conditioning. Some Indonesian elementary schools include English as a local content subject. However, one aspect that is often missing in the process of teaching and learning is supporting teaching media. This is often found in schools based in remote areas, including the one at SD Negeri 6 Tambak Ukir, which is included in this study. The teaching and learning at this school is not fully accommodated because of the unavailability of teaching media. The students are not fortunate enough to afford commercial learning media. The problems worsen with the fact that the teachers have never been professionally prepared and trained to teach English. Such problems lead to meaningless learning. Concerning the issues, we developed five big books to be used by English teachers and students of SD Negeri 6 Tambak Ukir with the aim to provide supplementary learning media for the students, particularly in learning English vocabulary. The research adopted the development model proposed by Gall, Gall, and Borg (2003). There are four simplified stages in this development process: problem analysis, product development, product trials, and product revisions. In the first stage, the researchers planned to develop 10 books, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic situation, only five books (including a manual user) could be developed. The topic covers numbers, colours, alphabets, animals, and the human body. The provision of the books helped the teachers in delivering the topics. The books could also create a new learning experience for the students. Besides, the students also felt that they could get closer to their friends because they could learn together and felt extra motivated. In other words, having been validated and tried out, the books were proven to be valid, effective, and practical. They were valid as they were developed based on strong theories, effective as they can fulfil students’ needs, and practical as they can facilitate both teachers and students during the teaching and learning process. Briefly, the big book can describe itself well. It is big, bold, and beautiful with impacts. Keywords: big book, English teaching medium, research and development, SD Negeri 6 Tambak Ukir

During the Covid-19 pandemic, learning was carried out online. It takes student activeness with the right approach and method to provide maximal learning experiences and learning outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to describe the application of the facilitated e-learning approach combined with the 5E method on student activeness in learning. This paper used the descriptive qualitative research method. Students are imagebearers of God so a teacher should view students as special and valuable. Students have reason and ability so it can be said that they are active individuals. Therefore, a teacher should always encourage their activiteness during the learning process. Implementing the facilitated e-learning approach with the 5E method is the right solution because the students carry out learning activities independently with the teacher in the role of facilitator. This has the potential to encourage student activeness in online learning so that students can get the maximum learning experience and learning outcomes and teachers can provide God-centered learning. In applying these approaches and methods, a teacher needs careful and measured preparation in order to provide the maximum learning experience even though it is carried out online.

BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Selama pandemi covid-19, pembelajaran dilaksanakan secara daring. Advances in smartphone technology have led to the strong emergence of mobile learning (m-learning) on the market to support foreign language learning purposes, especially for the Japanese language. No matter what kind of m-learning application, their goal should help learners to learn the Japanese language independently. However, popular Japanese m-learning applications only accommodate on enhancing reading, vocabulary and writing ability so that user experience issues are still prevalent and may affect the learning outcome. In the context of user experience, usability is one of the essential factors in mobile application development to determine the level of the application’s user experience. In this paper, we advocate for a user experience improvement by using the mental model and A/B testing. The mental model is used to reflect the user’s inner thinking mode. A comparative approach was used to investigate the performance of 20 high-grade students with homogenous backgrounds and coursework. User experience level was measured based on the usability approach on pragmatic quality and hedonic quality like effectiveness (success rate of task completion), efficiency (task completion time) and satisfaction. The results then compared with an existing Japanese m-learning to gather the insight of improvement of our proposed method. Experimental results show that both m-learning versions proved can enhance learner performance in pragmatic attributes. Nevertheless, the study also reveals that an m-learning that employs the conversational mental model in the learning process is more valued by participants in hedonic qualities. Mean that the proposed m-learning which is developed with the mental model consideration and designed using A/B testing is able to provide conversational learning experience intuitively.

This introductory chapter focuses not so much on mobile learning technologies per se, but rather on a theoretical foundation and its pragmatic application to designing learning activities with mobile technologies. It sets out three learning spaces that are explicitly considered in the book: individual, collaborative, and situated learning. On these differing learning spaces, we begin by proposing the essential factors in effective mobile learning experience design that should be addressed by different features or functions of the relevant learning activities. In turn, derived is a conceptual framework to provide systematic support for mobile learning expererience design. This chapter concludes by surveying the mobile learning systems included in this book, reviewing their differing learning activities within context of the framework. We hope that this analysis will help to expose the key qualities and features that can support the future development of increasingly effective mobile learning applications.

Teaching and learning activities, especially in Higher Education, from time to time develop along with the development of technology, especially information technology. Initially, the teaching and learning activities at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Buddhist Dharma University (FST-UBD) used a manual system in the form of face-to-face class. The system (for several courses and meetings) developed into distance learning (e-learning) where lecturers and students did not meet in teaching and learning activities in the classroom but through the internet media. This distance learning system uses computer or laptop facilities. The e-learning system was developed into a mobile learning system, which is a distance learning system using an Android-based smartphone. In the mobile learning system, lecturers can provide lecture material and assignments to students. Students can view lecture material via cellphone and can download the material. Students can submit assignments to lecturers via cellphone. The University can provide information about the seminar to be held. Students can choose the seminar to be followed and can register for the seminar via cellphone.
