Various studies have been done on the concept of innovation in Islam, but the focus is on Allah as the Innovator, Rasulullah as the innovator as well as the Qur’anic formula on how to gain knowledge to innovate. No studies have been found that focus on the characteristics of innovation in Islam. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of formulating the characteristics of innovation in Islam. This qualitative study was conducted by collecting data from interviews and document analysis. A total of seven innovative asatizah were selected as study participants. The findings show that there are seven themes for the concept of innovation in Islam, namely 1) imperfect, 2) inspiration from Allah, 3) benefit for others, 4) Shariah-compliant, 5) according to need, 6) consider traditional methods, and 7) innovated sincerely. This finding is in line with the concept of innovation outlined in the Qur'an as well as the mufassir’s explanation of the word al-bid’u. This study has implications in terms of explaining the characteristics of innovation in Islam and can be used as a guide to Muslim innovators when producing innovation.

In the study school of thought, an exposure to the context of across the time boundary known as "al-fiqh al-taqdiri" is a special feature in the formation of the Hanafi sect. It is also a feature shared by other sects including the Syafie sect. The authors chose the book of "Ghiyath al-Umam" by Imam al-Haramayn al-Juwayniyy (419H-478H) for this study as the book was loaded with elements across the time compared to his other books. This study is a qualitative study and the design is document analysis. The study of Ghiyath al-Umam's book shows how far Imam al-Haramayn's imagination that has not been reflected by most of the people at his time. But some have already happened now and some might happen in the future. Keywords: civilization, futuristics, Syafie sect ABSTRAK: pengajian sejarah mazhab kita biasa didedahkan bahawa fiqh merentasi sempadan masa yang dikenali sebagai “al-fiqh al-taqdiri” merupakan ciri istimewa dalam pembentukan mazhab Hanafi.

The purpose of this study is to examine how selected stories, which are written in Turkish by local or foreign authors for preschoolers, deal with honesty. In this basic interpretive qualitative study, data were collected through document analysis and analyzed through content analysis. Analyzed documents are twenty-one picture books, which written in Turkish for preschoolers published between 2004 and 2015, nine stories about honesty published online by four Turkish Provincial Directorates of National Education and one story about honesty published online by the Center for Values Education. The software NVivo 11 was used to conduct computer-assisted data analysis. The results of this study demonstrate that most of the analyzed texts use “dishonesty and its negative consequences” more than “honesty and its positive outcomes” to promote honesty.

This study aims to analyze issues, issue writing patterns, and reflective writing in the PISMP trainee teacher practicum journal, at Tun Hussein Onn Campus Teacher Education Institute, Batu Pahat. This study involved a total of 40 journal reflection writings selected at random in 2019 for various options. Qualitative study through document analysis is used to analyze the reflective writing of trainee teachers. In this study, the data were obtained from the writing notes of the reflection journal of the trainee teacher during the practicum. The results show that the writing of trainee teacher issues is more focused on the student domain (18 issues), followed by students (15 issues) and pedagogy (1 issue). Students were found not to touch the school domain at all and there was writing the title of the issue presented in the practicum journal not clear the domain of the issue (6 issues). The findings of the study also show that 36 out of 40 journal writing titles are clearly written. This shows that only a small number of journal writing titles cannot be written clearly. These findings indicate that trainee teachers are less focused on school factors such as environment, basic facilities, and racial diversity in writing self-reflection. The practice of reflection through journal writing is a very important aspect of teacher training in motivating trainee teachers intrinsically to achieve professional development in the field of trainee teacher duties.

Prolonged armed conflicts between the Government of Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement/Gerakan Aceh Merdeka (GAM) happened from 1976 to 2005. The three-decade-vertical political conflicts have received worldwide attention in research, except its humorous sides. This study attempted to capture the types and styles of humor within the memories of Aceh society. To do so, this qualitative study used interviews and document analysis to interview 20 Acehnese people from five districts in Aceh province who experienced the vertical wars in Aceh and analyze written resources. The research found that there are many types and styles of humor that happened unintentionally as the result of the speakers’ mistranslating and miscode-mixing from Acehnese language to Indonesian language during unexpected interactions. Most of the humor occurring during the wars in Aceh fall into the incongruity theory, the verbal pun style, and the self-enhancing style. The findings of the study provide insights on the humorous side of the long wars through communicative interactions in Aceh that are useful to relieve tension when remembering the bitterness of the wars.

Abstract Background: Low literacy of study participants in Sub Saharan Africa has been associated with poor comprehension during consenting process in research participation. The concerns in comprehension are far greater when consenting to participate in genomic studies due to the complexity of the science involved. While efforts are made to explore possibilities of applying genomic technologies in diseases prevalent in Sub Saharan Africa, we ought to develop methods to improve participants’ comprehension for genomic studies. Aim: The aim of this study was to understand different approaches that can be used to seek consent from individuals with low literacy in Sub-Saharan African countries in genomic research to improve comprehension. Methods: Using qualitative study design, we conducted focus-group discussions, in-depth interviews and participant observations as data collection methods. This study was embedded in a hospital based genomic study on Sickle Cell Disease at Muhimbili National Hospital in Tanzania. Thematic content analysis was used to analyse the transcripts and field notes. Results: Findings from this study show that literacy level has little influence on understanding the research details. According to the participants of this study, the methods used to provide information, the language, and time spent with the study participants were the key factors influencing understanding. The availability of group sessions held before individual consent to allow for a detailed questions and answers format was agreed to be the best method to facilitate the comprehension. Conclusion: The quality of the consenting process of participants will be influence by a number of factors. The type of research consented for, where the research will be implemented and who are the potential study participants are amongst the factors that need to be assessed during the consenting. Measures to improve participants’ comprehension need to be developed when consenting participants with low literacy level in genomic studies.

The purpose of this study is to conduct a discussion on facilities and amenities of luxury tourism. It is a qualitative study exploring the opinions of travelers on luxury tourism. The study participants consist of 48 respondents who are members of 7 different Facebook travel groups. Data collection was carried out by posting a topic of discussion on luxury travels to the Facebook groups. The results indicate that the conventional way of understanding luxury tourism is highlighted by top class facilities and amenities. These include 5 star and above standard of accommodation, chartered flight, private jet and yacht, butler and limousine service, and spectacular structures. However, contemporarily, luxurious travel is defined more broadly, it does not always connote, e.g. marble bath tub with gold plated tap, it could mean anything comfortable or ease. Luxurious facilities and amenities in tourism are defined differently by different market segments either first, middle or lower class. Thus, there is always a luxurious element for any travel regardless of its class, e.g. a private toilet in the Himalaya is considered as a luxury; there is a luxury for shoestring travelers. It is expected that the analysis could widen the perspective and enrich the discussion on luxury tourism.
