The article presents the results of studies of the quality of silage in the canning of cere-al-legume green mass: the leaven "Yarosil, bacterial preservative, suspension" in an amount: 50 ml per ton, 275 ml per ton 500 ml per ton, containing Lactobacillus plantarum K-36, K- 64, K-65, K-72, K-74, K-87, K-167; Lactobacillus lactis subsp. lactis Ep-157, Lactobacillus paracasei Ep-154 Ep-155 Ep-156 Ep-158, Streptococcus thermophilus K-35, the concentration (total) was 1.5õ109 CFU / cm3; starter culture "Yarosil dry powder" in a dose: 1 g per ton, 5.5 g per ton, 10 g per ton The composition of the microflora was the same as in the yeast "Yarosil, bacterial preservative, suspension", but the concentration was different and amounted to "Yarosil dry powder" (total) 8õ1010 CFU / cm3. The optimal amount of introduction (dose) of the indi-cated starter cultures into the canned green cereal-legume mass has been revealed. The amount of sourdough added had an impact on the safety, chemical composition and nutritional value of the resulting haylage. More optimal results were obtained when adding the starter culture "Yar-osil bacterial preservative, suspension" in the amount of 50 ml / t to the cereal-legume green mass. The starter culture increased the crude protein content by 1.03% (the control sample con-tained 7.85%, the experimental one - 8.88%), reduced the crude fiber content by 0.74% (the control sample contained 27.13%, the experimental – 26, 39%), reduced the content of butyric acid by 0.11% in the control sample contained 0.17%, in the experimental - 0,06%). When add-ing the starter culture "Yarosil dry powder" the best result was obtained when adding 5.5 g/ t. The starter culture increased the crude protein content by 1.54% (the control sample contained 7.85%, the experimental one – 9.39 %), reduced the crude fiber content by 0.72 % (the control sample contained 27.13 %, the experimental – 26, 41%), reduced the content of butyric acid by 0.06 % in the control sample contained 0.17%, in the experimental – 0,11 %). The amount of the added starter culture did not affect the organoleptic characteristics. The resulting haylage corresponded to GOST R 55986-2014, no mold or rot was found in it, the crushed mass of plants (stems, leaves) was clearly distinguishable, had a greenish-yellow color, a pleasant, specific smell of pickled vegetables. As a result of the research, the optimal doses of the studied starter cultures were established for the quality of haylage from cereal-leguminous green mass.

Abstract This study highlights the effect of drought and ambient temperature on performance and herbage quality of legume monocultures and grass-legume mixtures. In a field experiment, the total dry matter yield, seasonal pattern of dry matter yield distribution, content of crude protein and crude fibre of monocultures of red clover and alfalfa and grass-legume mixtures were investigated during two consecutive dry years (2011-2012). Alfalfa cultivars Kamila and Tereza grown as monocultures or as mixtures with Festulolium braunii (cultivar Achilles) outperformed the red clover cultivars Fresko and Veles and provided a well-balanced total and seasonal dry matter yield during both years. Across all experimental years, crude protein content was significantly higher at alfalfa monocultures and mixture when compared with clover monocultures (P < 0.05). However, considerable lower content of crude fibre at clover monocultures in comparison with alfalfa ones was found. Responses of nutritive parameters of both legume species to weather variables were different. Crude protein content in red clover was independent of rainfall and temperature. In contrast, the crude fibre content correlated with temperature whereby the alfalfa monocultures showed stronger correlations (P < 0.05) than red clover monocultures.

Midas marrowstem kale (Brassica oleracea L.) was grown in different row width associations with United 106 corn (Zea maize L.) in two studies and ensiled in different moisture blends with corn stover in another. Highest dry matter yields were obtained where a single row of kale was grown at 30 cm to the side of a corn row. This combination also provided the lowest moisture content feed and the highest in vitro digestibility and crude protein content. Changing the corn row width had no significant effect upon yield, plant height, in vitro digestibility, kale leaf or corn ear content. Blending kale with corn stover to provide a silage of about 70% moisture increased the digestibility and protein content of the feed and provided a silage that kept well in storage.

The forage quality of habitats associated with mature conifer plantations and the use of these habitats by resident snowshoe hares (Lepus americanus) were evaluated. The winter forage of hares was composed of deciduous stems that were predominantly low in protein content and not preferred. The crude protein content of the principal browse species, Viburnum dentatum, was only 4.6–6.4% during winter months. However, snowshoe hares feeding on the low-protein browse maintained their body weight. The intake of protein was maximized by the consumption of stem ends, which compensated for the low-protein forage. Use of habitat by snowshoe hares was closely related to the vegetative cover but did not correlate well with forage availability. Sites preferred by hares had a well-developed overstory (mature spruce) but only sparsely available forage during the winter. Thickets of early-successional deciduous vegetation had high use and contained most of the low-protein browse.

The results of research into the creation of a new cultivar of spring common vetch Obskaya 16 are presented. The work was carried out in the period 2014-2017. The goal was set to create a new earlyripening variety with а high fodder and seed productivity, high protein content, and an even ripening of seeds. The vetch cultivar Obskaya 16 was created by the method of hybridization on the basis of genetically different and ecologically-distant genotypes with subsequent multiple selection according to the specified parameters from the Kamalinskaya 611 × Novosibirskskaya hybrid populations. The vetch cultivar Obskaya 16 combines early ripeness with high fodder and seed productivity. The length of the growing season of the new cultivar is, on average, 81 days, which allows for the production of certified seeds annually. During all the years of testing in breeding nurseries, the new cultivar surpassed the standard Kamalinskaya 611 in green mass by 41%, in dry matter by 40%, and in grain by 27%. This cultivar is of mowing type, its average seed yield is 2.43 t/ha, green mass 28 t/ha, dry matter – 5.82 t/ha. The main economic and valuable characteristics of the Obskaya 16 cultivar are as follows: the height of the stem is 85-120 cm, the number of internodes is 19-25, the height of attachment of the lower seed pods is 78 cm. The average number of seed pods per plant is 24, the maximum is 46, the average number of seeds per a seed pod is 7-8. The mass of 1000 seeds is 72.6 g. The colour of the seed coat is mainly black velvet (92%) and brown (8%). Crude protein content is 25.3–30.5%. In 2016 the cultivar of spring common vetch was passed to the state variety testing under the name Obskaya 16. The newly created cultivar surpasses the previously recognized varieties in the region by early ripeness, fodder and seed productivity, as well as high fodder quality.

Abstract Feed is one of the factors determines the success of a fish farm. Feed-quality feed stuffs that require high quality also, which still rely on imports, especially fish meal and soybean oilcake. Effort to reduce dependence on import of feed stuff is searching for alternative feed stuffs that the quality is quite good, cheap, easily obtained and can reduce cost of production. One of the feed stuff as an alternative source of animal protein feed that need to be examined is the prawn waste. Prawn waste meal enough potential to be used as fish feed with a crude protein content 45.29% and 17.59% crude fiber was alternative feed stuff for fish meal. The usage of prawn waste as a feed stuff should be through the handling and processing to further improve the nutrient value of waste. Prawn waste processing in this research consists of two ways, that is waste cooking prawn on the high pressure (100 kpa), and conducted fermentation by using probiotic. The existence of microorganisms activity during the fermentation process will cause changes of feed stuffs either through physically and chemicals. Probiotic is a microbe colony that is rich in celulolytic, lignolytic and proteolytic bacteria. The aim of this research is to know the influence probiotic on the prawn waste cooked with high pressure to increase the protein content and to decrease the crude fiber content. Method as used in the research is experimental method. Experiment design that used at research is Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments and replicates 5 times. To get the data is conducted procsimat analysis on the crude protein content and crude fibers from each experimental unit. That result data analyzed with the Analysis of Varian continued with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. The results of research is known that dosaged probiotic at process of prawn waste cooked fermentation not different to crude protein contents of the waste cook fermented prawn. Crude fiber content of the waste cook fermented prawn using probiotik (P1, P2, P3) has decreased if compared with waste cooking fermented prawn without using probiotic (P0)

Abstract Water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes) is a one of the feed materials from the green plants a potential. Howefer, the water hyacinth are low of protein and high fiber contents. Therefore, there should be efforts intentionally done to increase the leaf protein. One the ways to raise water hyacinth nutrient is performing biologically fermentation by using microbes. The Kombucha organism is a symbiotic colony of yeast’s and bacteria that composed by strong membrane that covers gelatinous mass. Kombucha microorganism is living together with permeate the tea drink. The objective of this research is to know the effect of Kombucha to increased crude protein and decreased crude fiber contents in water hyacinth fermentation. The advantage of the research is to provide information regarding a Kombucha dosage which is required to enhance crude protein and reduce crude fiber content on water hyacinth fermentation. The research used water hyacinth as substrate and Kombucha as fermentor. Kombucha dosaged used here were P0 (0%), P1 (7,5%), P2 (15%) and P3 (22,5%). The fermentation took place 7 days and then proceeded with proximate analysis. Variables observed consisted of crude protein and crude fiber contents after being fermented using Kombucha. The result showed that Kombucha that was used for fermenting water hyacinth, could increase the crude protein content from 13,3040 % (P0) to 15,9972% (P3) and not significantly reduce the crude fiber. The Kombucha dosage at 7,5% (P1) was most effective for fermenting the water hyacinth.
