<p>This study examines the interpersonal meaning realized in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Lovestrong” and the contribution for teaching of a modern English grammar. It will be easier and more interesting to analyze the interpersonal meaning through the literary works that we hear everyday such as song lyrics.The objectives of this study are to describe the interpersonal meaning realized in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong”, to know the most dominant Mood Types and Speech Roles, to describe the Modality realized in those lyrics and to describe the contribution of interpersonal meaning in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong”. The design of the research was descriptive qualitative. The main sources of data in this research were the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong”. There were five song lyrics that the writers analyzed in this study. The analysis of the data used the following steps: those followings, listened to the songs, found the printed lyrics of the songs, analyzed the clauses based on the Mood-Residue elements and found the Modality through Modal Finite and Mood Adjunct. Next step, the writer classified the clause to get the most dominant of Mood Types and Speech Roles. The last, the writers drew the conclusion of this study.  The results of data analysis shows that the interpersonal meaning in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong” realized in the wordings of the clause if analyzed based on the elements of interpersonal meaning, the most dominant Mood Types is Declarative, the most dominant Speech Roles is Giving Information, the Modality realized through the use of modal finite and mood adjunct, and the contribution  of interpersonal meaning in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong” for teaching of a modern English grammar is to help the students easier and more interesting to analyze the interpersonal meaning through the lyrics of their favorite song or favorite singer. The conclusions of this study are; the realization of the interpersonal meaning in the song lyrics, we should read them thoroughly while analyzing based on the interpersonal meaning elements. Based on the Mood Types and Speech Roles analysis, the song writer or singer wants to declare something and give information to the readers or listener through these songs. <br /> <br />Keywords: interpersonal meaning, song lyrics, mood types, modality, modern English grammar</p>

The objectives of this research are to describe the meaning of Adele’s song based on interpersonal meaning by analyzing on the mood system of Adele’s song and to describe how Adele’s song effect the listeners through interpersonal meaning by analyzing on modality. The design of the research was descriptive qualitative. The main source of data in this research were the lyrics in the Adele’s album 21. The data itself is realized by system of mood that divided into 100 data of declarative, 27 data of interrogative and 17 data of imperative. The result of analysis shows that Adele mostly used declarative. Adele used declarative in every song lyrics because Adele wanted to share her story to the listener by delivering her songs. The content of song lyrics are about her love story. Besides that, based on data that has been analyzed through modality, the researcher found 67 data in Adele’s songs. The data itself divided into 1 data of usuality, 55 data of obligation and 11 data of inclination. In Adele’s song, Adele mostly uses obligation. Obligation occurs when someone has ask to do something for others. It means Adele uses obligation to ask the listeners to know something. Adele uses obligation to effect the listener. Obligation used to Adele to express through song lyrics to the listeners for her wishes she has ask to her couple. Adele wants listeners to know that her love story is complicated.

Song lyrics are basically part  of literary works, they belong to poetry type literary works because both have  similarities in their elements. So the analysis of the meaning of the lyrics of the song  Al Barq Al Yamani which was popularized by Nissa Sabyan and Adam Ali is carried  out using a semiotic analysis of Michael Riffaterre's model which focuses on poetry  analysis (song lyrics). This study aims to find the meaning ofsong lyrics Al Barq Al Yamani's by  describing (1) the unsustainability of the expression, (2) heuristic reading, (3)  hermeneutic reading, (4) matrix, model and variant, and (5) hypogram. This research  is a descriptive-qualitative research with a semiotic approach and the lyrics of the song  Al Barq Al Yamani as its corpus. The design used in this research is library research.The results of this study are as follows. (1) the continuity of expressions  includes: (a) displacing of meaning shown through the use of personified figurative  language, metaphor and synecdiction, (b) distorsing of meaning through ambiguity and  nonsense, (c) creating of meaning caused by rhyme, enjambement and typography (2)  The heuristic reading describes the longing and desires of a person (writer) for his  lover. (3) Hermeneutic reading describes the longing and desires of a person (writer)  for his lover, namely the Prophet Muhammad SAW. A depiction of longing to meet  and hope to be by his side. (4) Matrix: Prophet Muhammad SAW, model: longings and  desires, as well as variants that spread throughout the verse. (5) Hypogram consists of  potential and actual hypograms

AbstrakPenelitian ini membahas mengenai relasi makna leksikal lirik lagu pada kesenian rodad sekarwangi  yang terletak di desa Kendelban, Kecamatam Kemusu Kabupaten Boyolali. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori dari I Dewa Putu Wijana dan Josh Daniel Parera. Pengumpulan data diperoleh dari dokumentasi dan  diperkuat dengan wawancara serta observasi. Analisis data dilakukan dengan (1) mengumpulkan data dari lirik lagu kesenian rodad, (2) melakukan klasifikasi dari data yang termasuk ke dalam bagian relasi makna leksikal, (3) menyajikan data dalam bentuk tabel dan analisis, kemudian (4) menyimpulkan temuan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, dalam lirik lagu kesenian rodad terdapat relasi makna leksikal berupa, antonimi 12 data, sinonimi 32 data makna denotasi sebanyak 72 data dan konotasi 13 data. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan, bahwa makna denotasi dominan guna mengetahu makna secara kongkrit sehingga merepresentasikan budaya masyarakat, agama masyarakat, kondisi bahasa, proses pembentukan kata dan penuturan yang berbeda. Kata kunci: semantik, relasi makna, rodad AbstractThis study discusses the relation of the lexical meaning of song lyrics in the Sekarwangi rodad art located in Kendelban village, Kemamatu Kemusu, Boyolali Regency. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The theory used is the theory of I Dewa Putu Wijana and Josh Daniel Parera. Data collection was obtained from documentation and strengthened by interviews and observations. Data analysis was performed by (1) collecting data from the lyrics of the rodad song, (2) classifying data included in the lexical meaning relation, (3) presenting data in tabular form and analysis, then (4) summarizing the data findings. The results showed, in the lyrics of the rodad art song there is a relation of lexical meaning in the form, antimony 12 data, synonym 32 data meaning denotation as much as 72 data and connotation of 13 data. So it can be concluded, that the meaning of the dominant denotation in order to find out the meaning concretely so that it represents the culture of the community, the religion of the people, the condition of the language, the process of word formation and different speech. Keywords: semantics, lexical relation, rodad

Figurative language is one part of semantic study which is usually used in poems and song to enrich the meaning of that literary works. This research aimed to find out the kinds of figurative language, the most popular kinds of figurative language, and the meaning lies behind Speechless song lyrics by Naomi Scott. The method of this study used descriptive qualitative design. The source of the data in this research was the lyrics of Speechless song. However, the researchers collected the data by reading the lyrics. The results showed there were three kinds of figurative language used in that song such as: metaphor, hyperbole and personification. Metaphor was the most repeatedly utilized in the song with 53% use, hyperbole was 30% and personification 15%. The meaning lies behind this song tells about feminism or women empowerment. Therefore, all figurative languages used were aimed to convey the personal emotional power of the singer toward her oppressor. It was vividly expressed by Naomi Scott by using those figurative languages in her song lyrics.

This research is attempt to study about the common used of figurative languages in Beatles masterpieces. This research has three objectives: (1) to find out figurative languages in Beatles’ Masterpieces especially “A Day In The Life” and “A Hard Days Night” song, (2) to know what is the literal meaning in Beatles’ masterpieces especially “A Day In The Life” and “A Hard Days Night” song, (3) to know the moral values in Beatles’ masterpieces especially “A Day In The Life” and “A Hard Days Night” song . This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The technique of data analysis is categorizing, sorting, coding, interpreting, drawing a conclusion, and representing the findings. The result of this research shows that The Beatles is common used hyperbole and pleonasm in both song lyrics. Based on the analysis, the writer hopes that this research can provide knowledge about figurative language that the readers can take positive things especially in works of art.

Exocentric Phrase Forming Elements in Hikayat Hang Tuah. The purpose of this study was to describe the exocentric phrase forming elements in Hikayat Hang Tuah. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with the object of research in the form of phrases in Hikayat Hang Tuah. The data in this study are sentences containing exocentric phrases from data sources in the form of Hikayat Hang Tuah book documents. Observation techniques are used in data collection techniques, while the data analysis method in this study is the agih method with techniques for direct elements as a basic technique and advanced techniques in the form of sloping techniques. In Hikayat Hang Tuah there are three types of exocentric phrases (1) exocentric phrases directive with phrase-forming elements in the form of prepositions+nouns; (2) nondirective exocentric phrases with phrase-forming elements, namely particles/designations +adjectives and particles/word designations+nouns; and (3) connective exocentric phrases which form the phrase in the form of conjunctions+verbs. The diversity of linguistic elements in Hikayat Hang Tuah shows the manifestation of literary works as a manifestation of the richness of language.

This research is aimed to analyze the figurative languages used in Roar song by Katy Perry. Objectives of the study: (1) to find out the figurative languages used in Roar song by Katy Perry, (2) to find out the meaning of figurative language used in Roar song by Katy Perry, and (3) to find out the moral value messages of the song lyrics. Based on the objective of the study, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method in collecting the data. From the data analysis, the researcher found out  of figurative language appeared in Roar song by Katy Perry. They are Metaphor, Personification, Simile, Paradox, Irony, Alliteration, Onomatopoeia and Hyperbole. It can be implied that figurative language is always used in song lyrics. In Roar song lyrics, there can find moral value massages that can be learned in by the figurative language shown in this song. That is trusting ourself, never doubt to ourself and believe that we have power to refuse some of bad thins comes to our life such as bullying and toxic relationship.

Figurative language is one way of conveying words other than the normal way. This helps song writers compose and produce beautiful songs. Figurative language is part of semantics. Semantic is the study of meaning that is used to understand human expression through language. With semantic we can know the true or actual meaning in a song. This study aims to find student’s ability in identifying kinds of figurative language and their meanings in lyrics of Mariah carey selected song. Descriptive qualitative method is the method used in this study. The instrument for collecting  the data was test questions which consisted  of 12 questions. In this research, the subject  was  11th grade class of  SMA Swasta  GKPI  Padang  Bulan which consisted  of  28 students. The result  of  data  analysis shows that the students  mean score  is 76,7 the highest score is 92, while the lowest score is 50. There were 4 student, (14,3%), belonged to the very good level and 21 students (75 %), belonged to the good level and there were 3 students, (10,7%), belonged to sufficient level.Kind of figurative language was found in Mariah Carey songs lyric are simile, metaphor, hyperbole, and personification. The dominant types of figurative language found in Mariah Carey song lyrics is metaphor.From an analysis ,the researcher concluded that most of the students of the second grade class of SMA Swasta GKPI Padang Bulan Medan got dificulties to different between metaphors and personifications in identifying figurative language in mariah carey’s songs lyrics.

Song is a series of words that are obtained from the inspiration of everyday life. a series of words arranged in such a way that they contain rhythm and meaning that will be conveyed to the listener. Songs are part of literary works. Listening to songs is a very fun activity. sometimes the listener just listens to it and doesn't understand the symbols and meanings in the song. sometimes the song consists of symbols to describe the feelings of the composer. Based on the reason, it brought the reseasrcher to find out the symbol and  application of Symbol in the song lyrics and To explain the meaning songs in Westlife’s Coast to Coast Album. This research applied a descriptive qualitative method. Through this method the researcher Tried to analyze, explain,and find out the symbols by using Charles Sanders Pierce’s theory. In this case, Charles Sanders Pierce developed a triadic model in illustrating the definition of the sign as a symbol. The triadic model consisted of three components; representamen, object and interpretant. In this research researcher taken the specific objects of the analysis were songs from Westlife the name of album was Coast to Coast. The song consist of seventeen songs, there were My love, What makes a man, I lay my love on you, When you’re looking like that, Close, Somebody needs you, Angel’s wing’s, Soledad, Puzzle of my heart, Dreams come true, No place that far, close your eyes, You make me feel, Loneliness knows me by name, Fragile heart, Every little thing you do, Uptown girl. The symbols found are empty heart, enthusiasm, spirit, motivation, loyalty, simplicity, strength, happiness, and sadness. Every lyrics written must have a message aimed at both listeners and readers. The message is directed with the intention of making them impress after listening to and reading the lyrics.
