This research examined the interpersonal meaning realized in the lyrics of Adele’s album 21. The objectives of this research are to describe the meaning of Adele’s song based on interpersonal meaning by analyzing on the mood system of Adele’s song and to describe how Adele’s song effect the listeners through interpersonal meaning by analyzing on modality. The design of the research was descriptive qualitative. The main source of data in this research were the lyrics in the Adele’s album 21. There were three song lyrics that the researcher analyzed in this research. The results of data analysis there are 144 data in three Adele song lyrics. The data itself is realized by system of mood that divided into 100 data of declarative, 27 data of interrogative and 17 data of imperative. The result of analysis shows that Adele mostly used declarative. Adele used declarative in every song lyrics because Adele wanted to share her story to the listener by delivering her songs. The content of song lyrics are about her love story. Besides that, based on data that has been analyzed through modality, the researcher found 67 data in Adele’s songs. The data itself divided into 1 data of usuality, 55 data of obligation and 11 data of inclination. In Adele’s song, Adele mostly uses obligation. Obligation occurs when someone has ask to do something for others. It means Adele uses obligation to ask the listeners to know something. Adele uses obligation to effect the listener. Obligation used to Adele to express through song lyrics to the listeners for her wishes she has ask to her couple. Adele wants listeners to know that her love story is complicated.

Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) is a study of language which views language as two characteristics, systemic and functional. With using SFL, the researchers try to analyze the tale’s story of Sabai Nan Aluih. The research aim is to identify the interpersonal meaning realized in that story and to reveal the speech function of language use in that story. The research design of this analysis is descriptive qualitative research. The object of this research is the interpersonal meaning analysis of clauses as exchange in the tale of Sabai Nan Aluih. The data of this research is the clauses as exchange in the story of Sabai Nan Aluih. The source of data which is used in this research is the documentation of the data research paper. The researchers use document analysis from the story of Sabai Nan Aluih as collecting data. The data is analyzed by using description method. In the interpersonal analysis, declarative mood dominates almost the story, it is about 91 %. And, the data analysis of speech function is found in the story of Sabai Nan Aluih, statement, question and command, in where statement is domination from the story about 94%. Thus, it is important that the using of interpersonal meaning and the speech function of the story of Sabai Nana Aluih is as information

<p>This study examines the interpersonal meaning realized in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Lovestrong” and the contribution for teaching of a modern English grammar. It will be easier and more interesting to analyze the interpersonal meaning through the literary works that we hear everyday such as song lyrics.The objectives of this study are to describe the interpersonal meaning realized in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong”, to know the most dominant Mood Types and Speech Roles, to describe the Modality realized in those lyrics and to describe the contribution of interpersonal meaning in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong”. The design of the research was descriptive qualitative. The main sources of data in this research were the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong”. There were five song lyrics that the writers analyzed in this study. The analysis of the data used the following steps: those followings, listened to the songs, found the printed lyrics of the songs, analyzed the clauses based on the Mood-Residue elements and found the Modality through Modal Finite and Mood Adjunct. Next step, the writer classified the clause to get the most dominant of Mood Types and Speech Roles. The last, the writers drew the conclusion of this study.  The results of data analysis shows that the interpersonal meaning in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong” realized in the wordings of the clause if analyzed based on the elements of interpersonal meaning, the most dominant Mood Types is Declarative, the most dominant Speech Roles is Giving Information, the Modality realized through the use of modal finite and mood adjunct, and the contribution  of interpersonal meaning in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong” for teaching of a modern English grammar is to help the students easier and more interesting to analyze the interpersonal meaning through the lyrics of their favorite song or favorite singer. The conclusions of this study are; the realization of the interpersonal meaning in the song lyrics, we should read them thoroughly while analyzing based on the interpersonal meaning elements. As a popular manga series, Attack on Titan has various characters giving certain impression among the fandom. Two of them are Erwin Smith and Levi Ackerman. Erwin is known as an integrated and influencing commander meanwhile Levi is the humanity's strongest soldier who is also recognized as one of Erwin's closest subordinates. Their togetherness presents questions from the manga fans whether there is special relationship between them. Some fans accepted. However, there are not a few fans refused. Using systemic functional linguistics approach, the researchers try to reveal the happening tendency considering the clauses expressed by these two characters. Doing descriptive qualitative research, tenor analysis is done in the level of grammar. The researchers use criterion-based purposive sampling to get relevant data and process them from domain, taxonomy, componential, up to getting cultural theme analysis. The discussion shows complex interpersonal relationship because of considering the linguistic data findings along with their impacts towards the built social indication. This research gives new perspective for language study towards debatable thing between factions carrying particular ideology.

This study attempts to investigate thematic progression deployed in The Black Cat short story. The objectives of study are 1) To indicate the types of Thematic Progression in “The Black Cat” short story and 2) to describe the realization of Thematic Progression in “The Black Cat” short story. This study was conducted in descriptive qualitative design. The data were taken from the text of “The Black Cat” short story. The source of the data in this study was The Black Cat and Other Stories book written by Edgar Allan Poe. Systemic Functional Linguistics theory proposed by Halliday (1994) was used to analyzed thematic progression in “The Black Cat” short story regarded with Textual Function. In analyzing the thematic progression, there are three kinds of thematic progression: theme reiteration, the zig-zag pattern and the multiple- rheme pattern. The findings showed that the multiple- rheme pattern is the most dominant realized in 32 times (74%), theme reiteration is the second realized in 7 times (16,3%), and the zig-zag pattern is realized in 4 times (9,3%) and the least dominant pattern in “The Black Cat” short story.

This research is aimed at describing the English sentences used on the experiential meaning in the drink labels. Butt, et al. (1996:44) introducing us to the notion that language simultaneously performs three functions (experiential, interpersonal and textual) and one of the functions which is focused on the process is that experiential meanings. The objectives of this research are to investigate clauses and their constituents realized in the English sentences on the drink labels and to map out the experiential meanings realized in the clauses in the drink labels. The writer used qualitative descriptive analysis to find out the characteristics of English sentences used in the drink labels. The object of the study is the sentences used in the drink labels. The unit analysis is a clause used in the drink labels. The data were collected by the use of documents. To analyze the data, Method of data analysis, the writer took some steps; there are identification of 19 products of the drink labels, identification of the labels, identification of the sentences used in the drink labels, and identification of the experiential meaning. The result shows that, the 19 drink labels have 79 clauses and each clause has different constituents there are two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten constituents. The dominant constituent is nine constituents. Discussion on Experiential meaning, there are participant, process, and circumstance. The dominant process is material process. It has 50 clauses. Then the relational process is lees dominant, it has 29 clauses. In addition, the last process is projecting. It has no clauses. It is suggested that labels are good media for teaching English, especially systemic functional linguistics. By understanding the meaning of the labels, students and or readers are able to get the knowledge about the meanings of the clauses in the drink labels. They also can get the benefit of consuming the drinks. The other researchers would be able to continue analyzing for the next steps using different point of views.

AbstrakPenelitian ini membahas mengenai relasi makna leksikal lirik lagu pada kesenian rodad sekarwangi  yang terletak di desa Kendelban, Kecamatam Kemusu Kabupaten Boyolali. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori dari I Dewa Putu Wijana dan Josh Daniel Parera. Pengumpulan data diperoleh dari dokumentasi dan  diperkuat dengan wawancara serta observasi. Analisis data dilakukan dengan (1) mengumpulkan data dari lirik lagu kesenian rodad, (2) melakukan klasifikasi dari data yang termasuk ke dalam bagian relasi makna leksikal, (3) menyajikan data dalam bentuk tabel dan analisis, kemudian (4) menyimpulkan temuan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, dalam lirik lagu kesenian rodad terdapat relasi makna leksikal berupa, antonimi 12 data, sinonimi 32 data makna denotasi sebanyak 72 data dan konotasi 13 data. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan, bahwa makna denotasi dominan guna mengetahu makna secara kongkrit sehingga merepresentasikan budaya masyarakat, agama masyarakat, kondisi bahasa, proses pembentukan kata dan penuturan yang berbeda. Kata kunci: semantik, relasi makna, rodad AbstractThis study discusses the relation of the lexical meaning of song lyrics in the Sekarwangi rodad art located in Kendelban village, Kemamatu Kemusu, Boyolali Regency. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The theory used is the theory of I Dewa Putu Wijana and Josh Daniel Parera. Data collection was obtained from documentation and strengthened by interviews and observations. Data analysis was performed by (1) collecting data from the lyrics of the rodad song, (2) classifying data included in the lexical meaning relation, (3) presenting data in tabular form and analysis, then (4) summarizing the data findings. The results showed, in the lyrics of the rodad art song there is a relation of lexical meaning in the form, antimony 12 data, synonym 32 data meaning denotation as much as 72 data and connotation of 13 data. So it can be concluded, that the meaning of the dominant denotation in order to find out the meaning concretely so that it represents the culture of the community, the religion of the people, the condition of the language, the process of word formation and different speech. Keywords: semantics, lexical relation, rodad

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses transitivitas yang paling dominan digunakan dalam teks report dan kaitannya dengan prinsip dasar teks report. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan penerapan teori Linguistik Sistemik Fungsional pada transitivitas. Data dalam penelitian ini merupakan 29 klausa yang diperoleh dari teks report yang digunakan dalam Ujian Nasional kelas sembilan SMP. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa keenam jenis proses transitivitas digunakan dalam teks report. Namun, proses yang paling banyak digunakan adalah material (44%) dan relasional (31%). Hal ini menandakan kedua proses tersebut berperan penting dalam memberikan informasi dan gambaran yang jelas sehingga para pembaca mampu memahami obyek yang dijelaskan dalam teks report. Kata Kunci: teks report, transitivitas, linguistik sistemik fungsional   Abstract This research aimed at investigating the most dominant of transitivity process used in report text and how it relates with the nature of report text. It employed descriptive qualitative design and applied Systemic Functional Linguistics on Transitivity. The data were 29 clauses taken from report texts used in ninth grade’s National Exam. The result of this research revealed that six types of transitivity processes found in the report texts. Yet, material (44%) and relational (31%) were found to dominate the rest of the processes. This implied that those two processes serve important roles in providing clear information and description for the readers to understand the object being described in report text. This research is attempt to study about the common used of figurative languages in Beatles masterpieces. This research has three objectives: (1) to find out figurative languages in Beatles’ Masterpieces especially “A Day In The Life” and “A Hard Days Night” song, (2) to know what is the literal meaning in Beatles’ masterpieces especially “A Day In The Life” and “A Hard Days Night” song, (3) to know the moral values in Beatles’ masterpieces especially “A Day In The Life” and “A Hard Days Night” song . This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The technique of data analysis is categorizing, sorting, coding, interpreting, drawing a conclusion, and representing the findings. The result of this research shows that The Beatles is common used hyperbole and pleonasm in both song lyrics. Based on the analysis, the writer hopes that this research can provide knowledge about figurative language that the readers can take positive things especially in works of art.

This study of the transitivity system aims to identify and describe the type of transitivity, namely the process, participant, and circumstance which appeared in Jokowi and Prabowo campaign speech in 2019. The method used was qualitative method and researcher as key instrument in this study. The method used in collecting data was Metode Simak which proposed by Sudaryanto (2018). Data collected were analyzed by using the theory of Halliday (1985), namely Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) which focused on transitivity system. The results of the study based on data analysis show that there are 24 data or about 32% material process as dominant process that found in Jokowi campaign speech, the most dominant participant is actor that found about 15.1% or 23 data , and time as the most dominant of circumstance that found about 21.4% or 9 data. Whereas in Prabowo's campaign speech found that the most dominant process that used is material process about 37.5% or 30 data with the most dominant participant, namely actor and goal that have the same amount of data about 28 data or 18.2%, the circumstance type which is the most dominant used namely place about 11 data or 26.8%. The most dominant transitivity process used by the two presidential candidates shows that the two presidential candidates try to convey things related to the activities or actions that will be done by each presidential candidate if they are elected to become president of Indonesia in 2019-2024 period.
