On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic war, the events of it continue to live in people’s memory, and its veterans are still the best examples of patriotism and true serving the Motherland. It seems relevant to take a look at the events of the first days of the war with the eyes of their witnesses. The authors describe the events of June and July 1941, presented in the memoirs of the militaries who served in the Red Army Military topographic service, and performed topographic works in the border zone in a significant separation from their military units and staffs. On the basis of the collected material the authors show the participation of topographic units in the fighting of the first days of the war, provide the data on the losses of the Red Army Military topographic service in the starting period of the war. The article is devoted to the memory of the officers and soldiers, who selflessly did their duty in the beginning of the Great Patriotic war.

The article is devoted to the life path of the Siberian pilot Georgy Filippovich Baidukov. An attempt to show not only his participation in the heroic flights of the 30s of the 20th century as part of the crew of the pilot Valery Chkalov, but the further service of the Air Force General during the Great Patriotic War and especially after the post-war service of military commander G.F. Baidukov at the USSR Ministry of Defense, responsible for the creation of the latest military equipment for the country's air defense forces was made. Due to the special secrecy of this type of troops, the participation of Georgy Filippovich in their creation was neither covered in his memoirs nor in official publications. Only in the beginning of the 21st century this page of the life of the great pilot, military commander was opened. The article shows the Siberian period of Georgy's life in the Kain district of the Tomsk province, now the Tatar district of the Novosibirsk region, studying at Omsk vocational school, working at Siberian Railway, serving in the Red Army, training in flight schools and then heroic work of a test pilot, performing record flights, participating in two wars: Finnish and Great Patriotic War. The whole life of the Siberian pilot was devoted to serving the homeland, strengthening its defenses. The biography of Georgy Baidukov can be as an example to young people in achieving their goals and in constant study of everything new, advanced in their main profession.

The review of the collection of documents ‘I’m writing entirely from memory ...’ assesses the research potential of this new corps of the Great Patriotic War participants’ memoirs. The novelty of the sources introduced into scientific use is determined by the nature and the composition of the materials, as well as by high standard of archaeographic preparation of the publication. The two-volume collection contains materials of the questionnaire survey of the Red Army formation and unit commanders of the western military districts who had to face the war on June 22, 1941. The survey was conducted by the Military History Department of the General Staff of the Soviet Army in 1949-1956. The document collection compiler publishes not just the answers and the memoirs of the commanders, but also the questions asked by the General Staff, and these he provides with a detailed historical reference. The author of the review analyzes the content and the structure of the questions addressed to commanders and considers them a professional historical reflection of military historians of the late 1940s - early 1950s. An analysis of the contingent of respondents, the circumstances and the time of writing offer a means to see respondents as a collective author. This approach is supported by a detailed biographical data included in the collection. It allows to paint a kind of ‘intellectual portrait’ of the Red Army commanders in the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. The review also attempts to connect volume and contents of the materials with time of their creation and also with posts held by the authors of memoirs and their war-time career. The author underscores the fact that most memoirs and responses were written after 1953, and their size increased considerably over the volume of 1949-1953 materials. Moreover, another correlation has been detected: between the volume of memoirs and answers and the respondents’ promotion in the war-time. The review concludes that the new collection of memoirs has a high research potential for studying the eve and the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.

Using the boundary approach, the paper dwells upon the role of gender discourse in politics of the Soviet identity in the time of the Great Patriotic War. In the beginning, it discusses what role symbolic boundaries created with help of gender discourse play in politics of identity. Then, the essential traits of politics of Soviet identity are examined on the material of the film “Circus” (1936). Finally, the paper focuses on utilizing the gender discourse by cinema of the Great Patriotic War. It investigates how the films used the representations of femininity in such directions of the politics of the Soviet identity as producing the images of “us” and forming the feeling of belonging to the political community; providing the national unity through weakening internal symbolic boundaries; strengthening external symbolic boundaries and forming negative identity through constructing the images of “them” — the women of Nazi Germany. The author comes to the conclusion that the boundary approach has significant heuristic potential and may be employed in Gender Studies.

During the Great Patriotic War, the leadership of the NKVMF paid great attention to rationalization work in the fleet. This brought tangible results in maintaining the combat readiness of ships and units of the Navy, in improving equipment and weapons, but above all it became a serious incentive in the development of the creative initiative of commanders and Red Navy men. Such naval structures as ship repair enterprises (factories and workshops of fleets and flotillas) did not go unnoticed either. In 1943-1944, the NKVMF Technical Directorate, in order to summarize the experience of the rationalization work of ship repair, turned to the heads of these enterprises with the requirement to submit for analysis and generalization the most important and significant rationalization proposals aimed at the development of production and the improvement of technological processes. In 1944, on the basis of the generalized experience of rationalization work at the naval shipyards, the NKVMF Technical Directorate published the collection "Experience of ship repair and the development of new types of production at naval shipyards in the Patriotic War." In this document, in order to disseminate and use it, the most interesting and promising inventions and rationalization proposals developed and implemented at shipyards until 1944 were presented.

In the mid-nineteenth century Virchow revolutionized pathology by introduction of the concept of “cellular pathology”. Today, a century later, this term has increasing significance in health and disease. We now are in the beginning of a new era in pathology, one which might well be termed “organelle pathology” or “subcellular pathology”. The impact of lysosomal diseases on clinical medicine exemplifies this role of pathology of organelles in elucidation of disease today.Another aspect of cell organelles of prime importance is their pathologic alteration by drugs, toxins, hormones and malnutrition. The sensitivity of cell organelles to minute alterations in their environment offers an accurate evaluation of the site of action of drugs in the study of both function and toxicity. Examples of mitochondrial lesions include the effect of DDD on the adrenal cortex, riboflavin deficiency on liver cells, elevated blood ammonia on the neuron and some 8-aminoquinolines on myocardium.

Purpose This study investigated the nature of the association of lexical–grammatical abilities within and across languages in Latino dual language learners (DLLs) with specific language impairment (SLI) using language-specific and bilingual measures. Method Seventy-four Spanish/English–speaking preschoolers with SLI from preschools serving low-income households participated in the study. Participants had stronger skills in Spanish (first language [L1]) and were in the initial stages of learning English (second language [L2]). The children's lexical, semantic, and grammar abilities were assessed using normative and researcher-developed tools in English and Spanish. Hierarchical linear regressions of cross-sectional data were conducted using measures of sentence repetition tasks, language-specific vocabulary, and conceptual bilingual lexical and semantic abilities in Spanish and English. Results Results indicate that language-specific vocabulary abilities support the development of grammar in L1 and L2 in this population. L1 vocabulary also contributes to L2 grammar above and beyond the contribution of L2 vocabulary skills. However, the cross-linguistic association between vocabulary in L2 and grammar skills in the stronger or more proficient language (L1) is not observed. In addition, conceptual vocabulary significantly supported grammar in L2, whereas bilingual semantic skills supported L1 grammar. Conclusions Our findings reveal that the same language-specific vocabulary abilities drive grammar development in L1 and L2 in DLLs with SLI. In the early stages of L2 acquisition, vocabulary skills in L1 also seem to contribute to grammar skills in L2 in this population. Thus, it is critical to support vocabulary development in both L1 and L2 in DLLs with SLI, particularly in the beginning stages of L2 acquisition. Clinical and educational implications are discussed.
