Low content of soil organic matter and low availability of nutrients in Ultisol are major constraints of this soil to support growth and development of chili pepper. Application of organic fertilizer is required to increase content of soil organic matter as well as to improve other chemical, biological, physical properties of this soil. Wedelia (Wedelia trilobata) and Siam Weed (Chromolaena odorata) are potential sources of organic fertilizer. The aim of this study was to compare growth and yield of chili pepper under different time application of Wedelia and Siam Weed based organic fertilizers. Greenhouse house experiment was conducted employing Completely Randomized Design with 2 factors namely Wedelia and Siam Weed composts as first factor and 5 (five) different time of application as second factor. Each treatment was replicated 5 times. The study showed that most variables observed in this experiment were not affected by types of compost. Only were plant height, canopy width and dry weight of biomass significant difference between the two composts. Siam weed compost applied two weeks before planting resulted in plant canopy wider than Wedelia compost. However, Wedelia compost applied at planting resulted in longer chili pepper as compared to Siam weed compost. The experiment also revealed that Wedelia compost produced higher plant height and root dry weight as compared to Siam weed compost.

Fertility improvement of Ultisol is inevitable to increase growth and yield of chili pepper since the nutrient availability and organic matter of this soil is relatively low. Application of organic fertilizer will enhance microorganism activity in soil, thereafter will improve the availability of nutrients as well as other chemical, physical, biological properties of the soil. Most of manure releases nutrient quite slowly; therefore, addition of nitrogen to soil is expected to speed up the availability of nutrient to plant. Weed based organic fertilizers from Wedelia (Wedelia trilobata) and Siam weed (Chromolaena odorata) biomass have potential to substitute inorganic fertilizer. The objective of the experiment was to compare the effects of weed based organic compost and dry leaves compost with or without addition of nitrogen fertilizer on growth and yield of chili pepper. The experiment was carried out using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with treatments of 200 kg urea ha-1; Wedelia compost (WDC) 20 ton ha-1; WDC 15, 10, and 5 ton ha-1 with addition of 200 kg urea ha-1 respectively; Siam weed compost (SWC) 20 ton ha-1, SWC 15, 10, and 5 ton ha-1 with addition of 200 kg urea ha-1 respectively; and dry leaves compost (DLC) 20 ton ha-1, DLC 15, 10, and 5 ton ha-1 with addition of 200 kg urea ha-1 respectively. The result revealed that composts with or without addition of nitrogen fertilizer had similar responses on the growth of chili pepper. Wedelia and Siam weeds compost at 20 ton ha-1 tended to give better yield of chili pepper as compared to application of urea alone. This result indicated that weed based organic fertilizers could substitute nitrogen fertilizer.

Compost has been commonly used as the primary organic matter in organic plant production, especially in vegetable production.  Different sources of compost materials give different medium structures and chemical characteristics. The objectives of this research were: 1) to evaluate the response of growth and yield of chili pepper to a rate of compost and source of animal waste which were used as compost; 2) to determine the optimum rate of fertilizer for the highest growth and yield of chili pepper. The research was carried out from November 2015 until March 2016. Compost material treatments consisted of cow dung, empty palm oil bunches, and mixed of vegetable residue and weeds. The compost rate treatments consisted of 0 ton ha-1, 10 ton ha-1, 20 ton ha-1, and 30 ton ha-1. No interaction between the two treatments was found to influence plant growth and yield variables.   The type of compost materials affected plant height of 5, 6, and7 weeks after transplanting.  Cow dung as a source of compost showed the best effect in increasing chili plant height.  Plant height, the number of plant dichotomous, and plant canopy responded linearly  to the increase of the compost rate. The usage of compost at 20 ton ha-1 and 30 ha-1 resulted in higher fruit length, the number of fruit, and fruit weight per plant.   Keywords: chili pepper, compost, organic, growth, yield

The productivity of forage depends on the availability of nutrients in the soil where it is grown, so fertilization to replace harvested produce is absolutely necessary. This study aims to study the response of gamal and indigofera forage on application of inorganic and organic fertilizers. Research using a completely randomized design factorial pattern of two factors, the first factor is the type of plant (G = Gamal; I = Indigofera) and the second factor is the type of fertilizer (T = without Fertilizer; A = Inorganic fertilizer NPK; K = commercial organic fertilizer; O = conventional organic fertilizer; B = bioorganic fertilizer), repeated 4 times so that it consists of 40 experimental units. The variables observed were plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf dry weight, stem dry weight, total dry weight of leaves, ratio of dry weight of leaves/stems and leaf area per pot. The results showed that there was no interaction between plant species and types of fertilizer in influencing the response of gamal and indigofera plants. Plant species have a significant effect on stem diameter, while fertilizer types have a significant effect on plant height, leaf dry weight, total dry weight of leaves and leaf area per pot. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the response of gamal plants is similar to indigofera, all types of fertilizers can improve the response of plants and organic fertilizers produce the same crop response with inorganic fertilizers. Keywords: gamal, indigofera, inorganic fertilizer, organic fertilizer

Abstract The study aimed to obtain partial or complete replacement of N in ZA fertilizers with organic fertilizers without reducing, and even increasing yields in the context of sustainable agriculture in mixed crops with maize and cassava. The research was held in Wonorejo Village, Karanganyar, Indonesia in March-August 2020. The research was using one factor RCBD, four treatments, six replications, namely Control, 100% ZA, 50% ZA + 50% organic fertilizer, and 100% organic fertilizer. Data analysis using ANOVA and DMRT 5%. The result showed that 100% organic fertilizer influenced significantly on plant height, number of leaves and tillers, fresh and dry straw weight, stored rhizomes weight, dry weight of maize kernels and cassava tubers. Mixed crops are more efficient in land use than monoculture crops (LER > 1), but not in time used from planting to harvest (ATER < 1). Subsistence farmers are suitable to apply mixed crops because it is more profitable in terms of food needs fulfillment.

Changes in soil organic matter (SOM) are slow and difficult to monitor, usually apparent after few decades. Recent changes in the agriculture had its influence on soil, including the soil organic matter content. About 60% of soil in Nepal now have low organic matter content. Agriculture Perspective Plan (APP) was focused more on the concept of green revolution to increase the chemical fertilizer inputs, however, the scenario is changing. Use of organic fertilizers is promoted extensively by government and different organizations with a target of increasing SOM content from 1.92% in 2015 to 4% by 2035. This paper aims at analysing the current status, targeted goal and the challenges faced in the augmentation of the soil organic matter using data available. Achieving this target requires an addition of extra 2.244 ton/ha of organic matter on a yearly basis for 20 years. The average amount of organic matter (2.5-3 ton/ha) applied is lesser than a single season grain harvest. 4.69% of sites had high soil organic matter in fiscal year 075/76 which slipped to 2.64% in 2076/77. The sites with low soil organic matter increased from 12.73% to 15.31%. The causes behind the SOM decline varies according to different agro-ecological zones like soil erosion, residue burning, imbalanced fertilizer use, defective FYM production etc. Findings suggest precise technologies required to be adopted to tackle with the different niche specific causes of soil fertility decline. Despite the complete nutrient content, bulky nature of organic fertilizers sets a major drawback regarding their transportation, distribution and commercialization. Government of Nepal is promoting organic fertilizer use by subsidizing their production cost by 50%. Following integrated nutrient management (INM) techniques, sustainable soil management practices (SSMP) and promotion of use of locally available resources can play a huge role in making the technology sustainable to the farmers.

Status: PostprintVarious results of researches report that daisy Creeping Daisy (Wedelia trilobata), Goat weed (Ageratum conyzoides), Siam weed (Chromolaena odorata) and Bittervine (Mikania micrantha) have alellopathic potency to innhibit germination, growth and plant yield.. There were few researches on allelopathic potential of Creeping Daisy, Goat weed, Siam weed and Bittervine on mustard. Therefore, an experiment to evaluate the the allelopathic effects of those weeds on growth and yield of mustard at different concentrations is necessary to be conducted. The purpose of the research was to determine the allelopathic effects of Creeping Daisy, Goat weed, Siam weed and Bittervine on the germination of mustard. The Experiment was conducted from November 2008 until January 2009 at Agronomy Laboratory, University of Bengkulu using Randomized Complete Design (RCD). The experiment consisted of four weed species namely Creeping Daisy, Goat weed, Siam weed and Bittervine and five allelopathic concentrations 10, 20,30, 40 and 50 g/L. The results showed that Siam weed suppressed mustard germination more than other weeds. Allelopathic of Siam weed suppressed shoot length and root length of mustard seedling as much as 42.63% and 45.15% respectively. Shoot and root fresh weight and shoot dry weight of mustard seedling were suppressed as much as 28,23%,56,16% and 56,7% respectively The concentration of 50 g/L extracts from Goat weed andSiam weed was the most toxic to the germination of mustard.
