A good novel can teach the value of life and benefits to its readers. One novel that has a life value, especially social values, is the novel Hatta: Aku Datang karena Sejarah by Sergius Sutanto. For this reason, this study aims to describe the social values in Hatta: Aku Datang karena Sejarah by Sergius Sutanto. This research uses a qualitative approach with the content analysis research method. Data collection techniques using documentation techniques that are based on the novel Hatta: Aku Datang Karena Sejarah by Sergius Sutanto. Data analysis techniques with steps: define the unit of analysis, set categories, coding, interpretation, and conclusions. Test the validity of the data using member checks and expert validity. From the results of this study indicate that the social values in the novel Hatta: Aku Datang karena Sejarah by Sergius Sutanto in the form ofthe value of love, the value of responsibility, the value of harmony in life. The most dominant value of love is found especially about devotion, caring, family, please help, and loyalty. The results of this study are expected to be used as teaching material in schools, especially in strengthening the character of students in Indonesian subjects that contain material about novels so that the social values contained in this novel can be implemented in social life.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to describe the social values ​​contained in Novel Sunset with Tere Liye's Rosie. This research is a qualitative research. The steps carried out in this study are to describe the data objectively according to the data that has been found. This research has resulted in findings in the form of social values ​​(1) affection (Love) which include devotion, helping, kinship, loyalty, concern then (2) the value of responsibility (Responsibility) which includes responsibility to family, responsibility to society, and responsibility to God, it can be concluded that the novel Sunset Bersama Rosie by Tere Liye has life values ​​that can be applied in social life. This research focused on the types of social values reflected in Ananta Toer’s novel entitled Bumi Manusia. This novel successfully describes not only the cultural revolution in a colonized country but also an objection against the absolute supremacy of cultural and social values. The research was aimed at revealing the kinds of social values in the novel. The data were in the forms of sentences, paragraphs and dialogues referring to social values such as positive and negative social values. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method with content analysis technique that is by analyzing the letters, words, sentences and verses that can explain some social values in this novel. Based on the research finding and discussion, as well as the theory of social values proposed by Notonegoro (2014), the social values are divided into Value of truth, Aesthetic value, Moral value and Religious value. The results show that there are four types of social value in the novel, i.e. Value of truth (Justice), Aesthetic value (love), Moral value (encouraging kinship and politeness) and Religious value (patience and faith).

Amongraga & Tembanglaras novel is one of the very interesting literary works to be studied because this novel contains a lot of religious values illustrated from the attitudes of the characters contained in the story for example, mutual assistance, behaving honestly and politely to anyone. We can apply this attitude in social life. This study aims to find and describe the attitudes or behaviors of people who are motivated by the teachings of their religion shown in attitudes and behavior in social life for example, helping one another, being honest and polite. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach that is supported by data collection using document or library techniques. The data source in this research is Novel Amongraga & Tembanglaras Karya Ardian Kresna. Data analysis techniques in this study use the concept of hermeneutics by taking steps namely, reading, marking, coding, analyzing. The results of the study showed that in the novel Amongraga & Tembanglaras depicted many positive attitudes and behaviors shown by good deeds, friendly, and polite to anyone and can be used as an example in daily life.

Main Message

Popular novels are often underestimated because they are considered dry with valuable life values for their readers. This study aims to describe the social values contained in Asma Nadia’s novel Bidadari untuk Dewa. This type of research is a qualitative study using descriptive methods. The social values that were used as references in this study are those stated by Zubaedi (2012). The results showed that the three social values such as love, responsibility and life harmony were exist in the novel. The most dominant social value found is the value of caring for others which is included in the value of affection (Love). This is in line with the main message in the novel, which is to help others.

Abstract This study aims to describe and analyze cultural values in increasing social values in the Sorong Kota district with the focus of the study covering: culture, customs and values on the character of the Biak Tribe in Sorong Kota District. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques using interviews, observation and documentation and data analysis techniques, namely data reduction, data presenter, data presenter and research conclusions using the results of the study show that the social values that occur are not only a benchmark in ethnic culture/customs. breed but has a major role to tie a sibling association and a customary system, the customary system includes regional languages, regional languages are ancestral cultures that are beginning to be eroded by time, regional language culture is the body of ancestral customs so it must be preserved, because culture (language area) is a systematic one that describes the existence of a person in the ethnicity/origin of a person.   Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis tentang budaya iyakyaker dalam peningkatan nilai sosial di distrik sorong kota dengan fokus kajian mencakup: budaya, adat dan Nilai terhadap karakter masyarakat Suku Biak di Distrik Sorong Kota. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan Tehnik pengumpulan data mengunakan diantaranya Wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi dan Teknik Analisis Data yaitu reduksi data, penyaji data, penyaji data dan kesimpulan penelitian mengunakan Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa nilai sosial yang terjadi tidak hanya sebagai patokan dalam budaya/adat suku biak akan tetapi memiliki peran utama untuk mengikat suatu perkumpulau saudara dan sistem adat, sistem adat tersebut diantaranya bahasa daerah, Bahasa daerah merupakan budaya leluhur yang mulai terkikis oleh jaman, Budaya bahasa daerah merupakan raga dari adat leluhur sehingga harus tetap dilestarikan, karena budaya (bahasa daerah) merupakan salah satu sistematis yang mengambarkan tentang keberdaan seseorang dalam suku/asal-usul seseorang itu berasal. The article is devoted to the perception of K.I. Chukovsky’s works by a famous English writer G.K. Chesterton. K.I. Chukovsky was one of the first to point out the ambiguity of the literary works by the English writer and called his journalistic activity more convincing. Describing G.K. Chesterton’s essays, K.I. Chukovsky believed that the writer is second to none in this genre. He praised G.K. Chesterton’s journalistic talent in responding to all the phenomena of contemporary social life. K.I. Chukovsky considered it obligatory for the Russian readers to familiarize themselves with the critical works of the English author. In the essay «Gilbert Chesterton. Manalive» (1924) K.I. Chukovsky substantiated why, for all the variety of genre forms that G.K. Chesterton used, Russian readers were familiar with only a few of his works. K.I. Chukovsky’s critical attitude to the novel «Manalive» is explained by his rejection of G.K. Chesterton’s utopian attitude to the social situation in England at the turn of the XIX–XX centuries. In G.K. Chesterton’s works K.I. Chukovsky saw a simulation of revolutionary pathos that did not solve pressing issues of social disorder.

<p><strong>            </strong><em>This research is motivated by the analysis extrinsic elements novel </em><em>Sang Pemimpi</em><em>. This study aimed to describe the social values, cultural values, moral values, and religious values in the novel </em><em>Sang Pemimpi</em><em>. The research is a qualitative study using descriptive methods. The data in this study is a form of social values, cultural values, </em><em>religius </em><em>values and moral </em><em>on Sang Pemimpi</em><em> novel by Andrea Hirata. Data source is </em><em>Sang Pemimpi</em><em> novel by Andrea Hirata. Data collection techniques in this study are: (1) to read and understand the Novel </em><em>Sang Pemimpi</em><em> by Andrea Hirata, and (2) give coding by underlining sentences containing social values, cultural values and political values in the note of the novel </em><em>Sang Pemimpi</em><em> by Andrea Hirata all data regarding speech acts in a novel study. While the steps in analyzing data are: (1) read data that has been </em><em>record</em><em>ed, (2) classify or record data for the purpose for researchers based on the novel </em><em>Sang Pemimpi</em><em> by Andrea Hirata, (3) interpreting or interpretation of data for the purpose of research is to analyze the novel Sang </em><em>Pemimpi</em><em> by Andrea Hirata, and (4) make the conclusion of the study. The results of this study stated that extrinsic elements contained in </em><em>Sang Pemimpi</em><em> novel by Andrea Hirata is the value of cultural education, where cultural rights set forth in the novel The Dreamer ie when they are a teenager then it started to work for money. Social educational value, namely the attitude of helping each other like Arai and Mak Cik, and as pastor and Jimbron. the value of religious education that is visible on the pastor and Jimbron, although Jimbron raised by a pastor, but the pastor did not impose his religion on Jimbron. moral and political education value seen in a leader who has no morals and honesty.</em></p><p> </p><p><em>            Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh analisis unsur ekstrinsik novel Sang Pemimpi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai sosial, nilai budaya, nilai politik, nilai moral, dan nilai religius dalam novel Sang Pemimpi. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. </em><em>Data dalampenelitian iniadalah bentuk nilai sosial,  nilai budaya, nilai realigi dan moral dalam novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata. Sumber datanya adalah novelSang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata.Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah: (1) membaca dan memahami Novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata</em><em>, dan (2) </em><em>memberi pengkodean dengan menggarisbawahi kalimat-kalimat yang mengandung nilai sosial, nilai budaya, dan nilai politik dalam Mencatat Novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata  semua data mengenai tindak tutur dalam novel yang diteliti. Sedangkan langkah-langkah dalam menganalisis datanya adalah: (1) membaca data yang sudah dicatat, (2) mengklasifikasikan atau mencatat data sesuai tujuan peneliti berdasarkan novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata, (3) menginterprestasikan atau penafsiran data dengan tujuan penelitian yaitu menganalisis novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata, dan (4) membuat simpulan penelitian.</em><em>Hasil penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa unsur ekstrinsik yang dapat dalam novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata adalah nilai pendidikan budaya, di mana budaya yang tercantum dalam novel Sang Pemimpi yaitu apabila sudah beranjak remaja maka sudah mulai bekerja untuk mencari uang. nilai pendidikan sosial, yaitu adanya sikap saling tolong menolong seperti Arai dan Mak Cik, dan seperti pendeta dan Jimbron. nilai pendidikan religius yaitu terlihat pada pendeta dan Jimbron, walaupun Jimbron diasuh oleh seorang Pendeta, tetapi pendeta tersebut tidak memaksakan agamanya pada Jimbron. nilai pendidikan moral dan politik terlihat pada seorang pemimpin yang tidak mempunyai moral dan kejujuran.</em></p>

This study discusses the ethnic conflict in the Rwandan genocide in the novel Led by Faith: Rising from The Ashes of Rwandan Genocide written by Immaculée Ilibagiza. The novel is set in Rwanda, the country that was known as the place of the fastest killing in the world history, within 100 days killed more than 800.000 people. This novel is based on the author’s experience in surviving from the Rwandan genocide. Therefore, it is interesting to discuss how the author represented the genocide in the novel. This study applied conflict theory by Dahrendorf which focus on four aspect: Two aspects of society (conflict and consensus), power and authority, the groups involved in the conflict, and conflict and social change. The data are taken from the novel Led by Faith by using descriptive analysis techniques. The study reveals that the conflict between Hutu and Tutsi ethnics was represented as the power dynamics among the authorities. The conflict influenced the social change and social structure of the Rwandan society.
