Abstract Initial observations conducted on 74 teachers at SMPN 1 Tanjung Morawa and SMPN 4 Tanjung Morawa indicated that only 10 of them have the ability to perform classroom action research (PTK). More specifically, 4 out of 10 teachers have engaged with PTK and 6 teachers admitted that they are not motivated to do so. Accordingly, 64 other teachers had lack of understanding in the implementation procedure arguing that, PTK is not a teacher's job. This is the basis for improving the professionalism of junior high school teachers through classroom action research training in Deli Serdang district. The implementation of Science and Technology for Society (IbM) is to form a group of independent teachers in implementing PTK and able to produce reports and writings imiah published in the journal with a sustainable approach mentoring. Lecturers who have experience in terms of PTK helped as mentors of these teachers. The implementation of IbM contributed to the improvement of teachers' motivation in implementing PTK significantly where 13 people from 31 guided teachers could complete their obligation until the PTK seminar result. Keywords: Scientific Journal, Classroom Action Research.

This article aims at investigating teachers’ perception, practices and problems in conducting classroom action research (CAR). This study employed a descriptive quantitative research design using a survey. Forty-five teachers from two different State Islamic Junior High Schools in Kediri are randomly selected. To collect the data, an open-ended questionnaire is used as the instruments. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics analysis is used. The finding shows that the teachers have a good perception of CAR. Almost of them agreed that it could improve the quality of their teaching and learning process, improve students’ motivation and achievement and improve their professional rank. Their good perception of CAR can be seen from their practice in conducting CAR. Majority of them have experience in conducting CAR; however, some of them still get difficulty in making the report. The teachers also face some problems in conducting CAR. Those are time, reporting system, in-existence of the supervisor, lack of understanding of research, insufficient references, research budget, and incomplete facilities. The alternative solution is by conducting the research collaboratively with their colleagues in the same subject. It is recommended for the school stakeholder to consider this finding in making the school policy, especially in increasing teacher professionalism.

AbstractStudies suggest that students’ prior performance can shape subsequent teacher evaluations, but the magnitude of reputational effects and their implications for educational inequality remain unclear. Existing scholarship presents two major perspectives that exist in tension: do teachers primarily use reputational information as a temporary signal that is subsequently updated in response to actual student performance? Or do teachers primarily use reputational information as a filter that biases perception of subsequent evidence, thus crystallizing student reputations and keeping previously poor-performing students stuck in place? In a field experiment, we recruited a random sample of 832 junior high school teachers from the second-most populous province of China to grade a sequence of four essays written by the same student, and we randomly assign both the academic reputation of the student and the quality of the essays produced. We find that (1) reputational information influences how teachers grade, (2) teachers rely on negative information more heavily than positive information, and (3) negative reputations are crystallized by a single behavioral confirmation. These results suggest that students can escape their prior reputations, but to do so, they must contradict them immediately, with a single confirmation sufficient to crystallize a negative reputation.

Internet activity is an ICT (Information, Communication and Technology) provides opportunities for students in learning through digital story books that are presented in an interesting way and directly contribute to the improvement of the ability to write narrative. The think-talk-write strategy (TTW) is based on the development of thinking skills, verbal and written communication. The flow of progress of this strategy starts from the involvement of students in thinking or dialogue with themselves after the process of reading the story and share ideas with friends before writing. This research used collaborative classroom action research designs, researchers and teachers worked together in conducting research. This study was carried out in a series of cycles that refer to class action research procedures namely, planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The research data was collected through several instruments, namely the students' writing sheets, questionnaires, and observation checklist. The subjects of this study were 30 seventh graders of junior high school. The average value obtained during the preliminary study was 62. The value increased to 75 in cycle 1. In cycle 2, the average value obtained increased again to 80.5. The use of digital storybook is highly recommended to improve the ability to write narrative.
