Background Many studies have emphasized on fetal pinna measurements and morphologic features to use this structure as an additional marker for fetal chromosomal anomaly. Objectives To assess relationship between fetal pinna length and gestation age and develop a nomogram. To assess relationship between fetal pinna length and head circumference and biparietal diameter. Methods Fetal pinna measurements from the tip of helix to the end of lobe were obtained prospectively in 850 singleton pregnant women between 15 and 40 weeks’ gestation Normal case was defined as normal sonographic findings during examination and normal infant examination at birth or both. Final study population was 787. The relationship between gestational age in weeks to pinna length in millimeters was analyzed by simple linear regression. Correlation of fetal ear length measurements with gestational age, biparietal diameter and head circumference were also obtained. Results Linear relationships were found between fetal pinna length and gestational age [Pinna Length (mm)=1.044xGestational age (weeks) -3.857]. A nomogram of normal pinna length was obtained. High correlation was found between pinna length and gestational age (r=0.942; p< 0.001), pinna length and head circumference (r=0.931; p< 0.001). Significant correlation was found between pinna length and biparietal diameter (r=0.934; p=0.004) ConclusionsThe results of this study provide a nomogram for fetal pinna. Aim: 1. To assess relationship between fetal foot length and gestation age and develop a nomogram. 2. To assess relationship between fetal foot length and femur length. Meterials and Method: Cross sectional study. Fetal foot length was taken from the skin edge overlying calcaneus to the distal end of the longest toe on either plantar or the sagittal view in 860 singleton pregnant women between 15 and 40 weeks’ gestation. Normal case was defined as normal sonographic findings during examination and normal infant examination at birth or both. Final study population constituted 779 healthy fetuses. The relationship between gestational age to foot length was analyzed by simple linear regression. Correlation of fetal foot length with gestational age and femur length were also obtained. Results: A nomogram for fetal foot length was obtained. There is linear relationship between foot length and gestational age [foot length (mm)=2.494xGestational age (weeks)-15.46] with significant correlation (r=0.970 and p=0.000) and between foot length and femur length [foot length(mm)=1.049xfemur length (mm)+0.648] with significant correlation (r=0.980 and P=0.000). Femur length/ Foot Length ratio was 0.9 and 1.0 in most of the cases. Conclusion: Nomogram was obtained for fetal foot length at various gestational ages in our population. There is linear relationship and good correlation between foot length and gestational age and foot length and femur length. Fetal foot length can be used as an alternative fetal parameter to assess gestational age. Femur length/ Foot Length ratio is fairly constant throughout gestation. Background: Fetal ear length measurement has been associated with some clinical values: sonographic marker for chromo- somal aneuploidy and for biometric estimation of fetal gestational age. Objectives: To establish a baseline reference value for fetal ear length and to assess relationship between fetal ear length and gestational age. Methods: Ear length measurements were obtained prospectively from fetuses in 551 normal singleton pregnancies of 15 to 41 weeks gestation. Normal cases were defined as normal sonographic findings during examination plus normal infant post-delivery. The relationship between gestational age (GA) in weeks and fetal ear length (FEL) in millimeters were analyzed by simple linear regression. Correlation of FEL measurements with GA, biparietal diameter (BPD), Head circumference (HC), Abdominal Circumference (AC), Femur Length (FL) and maternal age (MA) were also obtained. Results: Linear relationships were found between FEL and GA (FEL=0.872GA-2.972). There was a high correlation between FEL and GA (r = 0.837; P = .001). Good linear relationship and strong positive correlation were demonstrated between FEL and BPD, AC, HC, and FL (p<0.05). Conclusion: The result of this study provides normal baseline reference value for FEL. The study also showed good linear relationship and good correlation between FEL and fetal biometric measurements. Keywords: Fetal ear length; sonographic measurement; chromosomal aneuploidy.

This study aimed to investigate whether a difference in gestational age according to biparietal diameter (BPD) and abdominal circumference (AC) could be a clinically useful predictor of placental abruption during the intrapartum period. This retrospective cohort study was based on singletons who were delivered after 32 + 0 weeks between July 2015 and July 2020. We only included cases with at least two antepartum sonographies available within 4 weeks of delivery (n = 2790). We divided the study population into two groups according to the presence or absence of placental abruption and compared the clinical variables. The incidence of placental abruption was 2.0% (56/2790) and was associated with an older maternal age, a higher rate of preeclampsia, and being small for the gestational age. A difference of >2 weeks in gestational age according to BPD and AC occurred at a higher rate in the placental abruption group compared to the no abruption group (>2 weeks, 21.4% (12/56) vs. 7.5% (205/2734), p < 0.001; >3 weeks, 12.5% (7/56) vs. 2.0% (56/2734), p < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis revealed that the differences of >2 weeks and >3 weeks were both independent risk factors for placental abruption (odds ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval), 2.289 (1.140–4.600) and 3.918 (1.517–9.771), respectively) after adjusting for maternal age, preeclampsia, and small for gestational age births. We identified that a difference in gestational age of >2 weeks between BPD and AC could be an independent predictor of placental abruption.

<b><i>Objective:</i></b> This study aimed to assess reduced fetal growth between 35 weeks of gestation and birth in non-small for gestational age fetuses associated with adverse perinatal outcomes (APOs). <b><i>Material and Method:</i></b> It is a retrospective cohort study of 9,164 non-small for gestational age fetuses estimated by ultrasound at 35 weeks. The difference between the birth weight percentile and the estimated percentile weight (EPW) at 35 weeks of gestation was calculated, and we studied the relationship of this difference with the appearance of APO. APOs were defined as cesarean or instrumental delivery rates for nonreassuring fetal status, 5-min Apgar score &#x3c;7, arterial cord blood pH &#x3c;7.10, and stillbirth. Fetuses that exhibited a percentile decrease between both moments were classified into 6 categories according to the amount of percentile decrease (0.01–10.0, 10.01–20.0, 20.01–30.0, 30.01–40.0, 40.01–50.0, and &#x3e;50.0 percentiles). It was evaluated whether the appearance of APO was related to the amount of this percentile decrease. Relative risk (RR) was calculated in these subgroups to predict APOs in general and for each APO in particular. Receiver operating characteristic and area under curves (AUC) for the difference in the percentile was calculated, used as a continuous parameter in the entire study population. <b><i>Results:</i></b> The median gestational age at delivery in uncomplicated pregnancies was 40.0 (39.1–40.7) and in pregnancies with APOs 40.3 (49.4–41.0), <i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001. The prevalence of APOs was greater in the group of fetuses with a decrease in percentile (7.6%) compared to those with increased percentile (4.8%) (<i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001). The RR was 1.63 (95% CI: 1.365–1.944, <i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001). Although the differences were significant in all decreased percentile groups, RRs were significantly higher when decreased growth values were &#x3e;40 points (RR: 2.036, 95% CI: 1.581–2.623, <i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001). The estimated value of the AUC for percentile decrease was 0.58 (0.56–0.61, <i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001). <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> Fetuses with a decrease in the EPW between the ultrasound at 35 weeks of gestation and birth have a higher risk of APOs, being double in fetuses with a decrease of &#x3e;40 percentile points.

Rapidly enlarging head circumference is a standard clinical sign of progressive hydrocephalus in an infant. Six neonates 29 to 36 weeks gestational age, with intraventricular hemorrhage, confirmed by ventricular tap, had head circumferences measured at intervals from birth. The sudden appearance of rapidly expanding head size, not associated with changing clinical status, occurred 9 to 20 days after the estimated time of hemorrhage in all of the infants. Air ventriculography within three days of abnormal acceleration of head circumference growth demonstrated moderately to severely dilated ventricles. The ventricles were probably enlarging slowing from the time of hemorrhage because there was no associated clinical deterioration in the infants coincident with the rapid increase in head circumference. After intraventncular hemorrhage, enlarging head circumference appears to be an insensitive sign of hydrocephalus in premature infants.

This study aimed to establish reference values of fetal transverse cerebellar diameter (TCD) in a Nigerian population. A cross-sectional convenience study was carried out between June 2013 and May 2014 in Enugu, Nigeria. The sonographic examinations were performed on 697 pregnant women with gestational ages between 14 and 40 weeks. The TCD measurements were obtained from the proximal outer margin to the distal outer margin of cerebellum. The women’s last menstrual period, femur length, biparietal diameter, head circumference, and abdominal circumference were also recorded. The mean (standard deviation) TCD increased from 13.6 (2.2) mm to 27.3 (2.6) mm and 28.9 (2.0) mm to 42.9 (2.0) mm in the second and third trimesters, respectively. The relationship of TCD with gestational age obtained from last menstrual period, femur length, biparietal diameter, head circumference, and abdominal circumference was determined. The TCD had a strong correlation with gestational age ( r = .93; P < .05). Reference values for TCD were established for those patients who attended this clinic. This is a likely data set to use for future research that could focus on similar practices and in other regions of the country for possible generation of a nationwide nomogram.

Introduction: Various organs are measured to estimate the gestational age of fetus. Sonographically derived parameters used to date pregnancy include Crown rump length, Biparietal diameter, Head circumference, Femoral length and Abdominal circumference. Fetal kidney length, transcerebellar diameter and placental thickness are emerging as new parameters and are claiming to be more accurate in certain situations. In Nepalese context fetal kidney length has not been studied yet so this study was done to fill this need. Methodology: Obstetric sonography was performed in 108 pregnant women with uncomplicated pregnancy to evaluate the efficacy of FKL as a measure to calculate the predicted gestational age. Gestational age ranged from 20 weeks to term. Only patient with known LMP, previous history of normal menstrual cycle and without any exclusion criteria were included in the study. Results: The study showed mean fetal kidney length at 20-24, 25-29, 30- 34 and 35-37 weeks gestation as 22.5±0.5, 26.9±0.7, 32.32±0.7 and 36.3±0.6 respectively. Overall in combined second and third trimester , fetal kidney length showed strong linear correlation with gestation age with highest significant Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.989 as compared to other parameters (BPD=0.986, HC=0.976, AC=0.971, FL=0.984). Conclusion: Fetal kidney showed strongest linear correlation with clinical gestational age and it also demonstrated positive correlation with biparietal diameter, head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length. Therefore fetal kidney length can be used as a reliable parameter for determination of gestational age.

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between brand equity, customer’s satisfaction and brand loyalty. The study was a descriptive and in term of purpose is applied and in term of data collection will also be considered field. Data collection tool was questionnaire consisting of 21 questions to measure the research variables. The validity by professors and experts and its reliability by using Cronbach’s alpha was reviewed and approved. The study population consisted of students at Islamic Azad University who were customers of restaurants and fast food in Rasht city. Using the Cochran formula final study sample 420 subjects was studied. In order to test the hypothesis structural equation modeling was used. The results showed that brand equity has a significant relationship with rate of 0.18 with a customer’s satisfaction. As well as customer’s satisfaction is related to customer’s loyalty with rate of 0.88. Among the aspects brand equity as ideal inner satisfaction has the highest correlation with customer’s satisfaction.

Purpose of Study The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between transient tachypnea of the newborn and the incidence of childhood asthma. Study Population The study was done retrospectively. Transient tachypnea of the newborn was diagnosed in children whose gestational age was greater than 34 weeks if they developed a respiratory rate greater than 60/minute for at least 12 hours within 6 hours after birth. All patients had chest x-rays consistent with transient tachypnea of the newborn, and none of the children had hypercapnia or required assisted ventilation. Controls were selected who had the same birth rate and similar gestational age. Total of 58 children with transient tachypnea of the newborn were enrolled as well as 58 controls. Methods Children were examined at 4 to 5 years of age. They were examined in a blind fashion by two physicians. Data accumulated included a history of atopy in the child and in the family as well as pulmonary symptoms and use of bronchodilators. Findings Children who had transient tachypnea of the newborn had a greater incidence of wheezy breathlessness, childhood atopy, and family history of asthma. Reviewer's Comments In their discussion, the authors indicate that the β-adrenergic system plays a role in the absorption of fluid from the newborn's lung at birth. Impairment of the β-adrenergic system, if persistent, would predispose such children to have subsequent difficulty with asthma. This is consistent with the recent prospective study (N Engl J Med. 1988;319:1112-1117) which suggests that diminished lung function is a predisposing factor for the development of wheezing.
