Child pornography is not a novel crime. For many years, it has been a prevalent concern but since the availability of the internet, it has become more universal and pervasive, as cyberspace provides offenders with greater accessibility to victimize children. In response to this, numerous countries around the world, including Malaysia have implemented and enhanced regulations and policies to accord better protection to children from the crime. The aim of this paper is to highlight Malaysia’s legal response and its efficacy in repressing the crime of online child pornography. Accordingly, the paper uses a doctrinal approach with content analysis to consider four issues. Firstly, the international and regional legal frameworks addressing online child pornography will be explored. Secondly, the paper provides an overview of the increasing threat of the crime in Malaysia. Subsequently, the legislative intervention taken by the nation to curb the crime is analysed, accompanied by an assessment on whether the existing law is consistent with international conventions. The overall finding reveals that the Malaysian legal mechanism has been substantially reformed to safeguard children in the country from online child pornography, especially after the enactment of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Internet child pornography (CP) is one of the most rapidly growing problems on the Net. In particular, pedophilia has been largely facilitated by the Internet, because it has enabled like-minded people to meet and fuel their sexual interests in children. In addition, the diffusion of pedophile material mainly occurs in almost-public fields like the World Wide Web, mailing lists, newsgroups, and bulletin boards, where anonymity and confidentiality obscure most of the communication parties and content causing difficulties for investigative analysis.

The birth and development of performers' rights was initially witnessed in the twentieth century. Domestic laws and international conventions were drafted and implemented in various countries and the international community. Nigeria has followed a similar trend in the development of performers' rights by providing provisions protecting these rights. Equally, Nigeria has signed and ratified international treaties providing for the protection of performers' rights. However, there are issues relating to performers' rights that have not been given consideration. A broader system of protecting traditional performances with spiritual and social components is required. Purely spiritual festivals such as the Oro festival is guided by custom which must not be disregarded as a means of protection. Only worshippers or devotees are allowed to be a part of the festival. Strangers and women are forbidden to see the procession and when or if they do, the consequences are grave. Conversely, the Eyo, Atilogwu, Tengra and Osun Oshogbo festivals are spiritual festivals with social components that are not rigidly protected by custom, neither are the performances considered for protection in related rights in Nigeria. Such performances are littered on the internet by those who attend the festivals from various parts of the world. While the extent to which performers are protected in the Copyright Act of Nigeria should be commended, more should be done.

The COVID-19 pandemic has reached a level that threatens the health of the whole world. This study aimed to prevent misinformation on this subject by examining the death-related dimension of COVID-19 disease. In the study, the internet archive of three newspapers (Sabah, Hürriyet, and Sözcü) with the highest circulation as of October 2020 was searched with the keywords “corona death” and “COVID-19 death.” A total of 120 contents in three newspapers (40 items from each newspaper) were selected by a simple random sampling technique and all of them were subjected to content analysis. As a result, the COVID-19 disease was handled in a panic-inducing manner. This situation reflected the images. The deaths will increase even more in the winter months of 2020. Although there are initiatives regarding vaccination, not all people can benefit equally in the short term. Measures are often emphasized, especially by the Minister of Health. While COVID-19 deaths are increasing all over the world, how are they so low in China? This is a question in the contents.
