The article deals with the factors of the family environment that have a depriving effect on the participants of gender relations in the systems "husband-wife", "parents-children" and hinder the development of parity relations in private life. Gender relations in the field of marriage and family are considered as real practices and models of intersex interaction, behavior, values and social norms that determine the organization of family life and the culture of family relations. The definition of "gender deprivation in marriage and family" as deprivation faced by women and men in the performance of marital and parental roles due to gender perceptions, stereotypes and attitudes present in the mind, and gender prejudices reflected in the behavior of individuals of marital and parent-child interaction, which generate gender differentiation, stratification, gender imbalance in the distribution of household responsibilities, household, educational, guardianship, recreational and other family roles in the field of unpaid domestic work. The aggravation of contradictions between partners in focusing on the egalitarian or patriarchal type of building family relationships and the tendency to dysfunctional development of the modern family, which manifests itself in overburdening women with family responsibilities, inflexibility of family norms, inconsistency of role behavior, ignoring the needs and feelings of family members, conflict interaction, domestic violence, blurred family life plans have been emphasized. The conditions for overcoming gender deprivation in the field of marriage and family are identified: the gender- oriented state family policy as a tool for strengthening and developing the social institution of the family, ensuring the comprehensive development of the family and its members, preventing and resisting domestic violence; the approval in the society the value of parity marital relations, equal distribution of domestic responsibilities, mutually responsible fatherhood / motherhood; educational activities to strengthen the egalitarian and weaken the patriarchal foundations of the modern Ukrainian family, the formation of zero tolerance of society to domestic violence; increasing the gender sensitivity of the population, expanding the rights and providing opportunities for a wife and a husband for personal and professional development; activation of personal resources of women and men to choose the optimal strategies of self-realization in the field of marital and family relations and other spheres of public life.

The article examines the problem of domestic violence against women in marriage and family relations, and also identifies ways for the legal regulation of this issue. It turns out that at present, violence against women is one of the main social mechanisms through which women are forced to occupy a subordinate position in comparison with men. Violence directed at women reflects the structure of subordination and power, the depth of the differences between the sexes. «Violence against women» according to UN documents means any act of violence committed on the basis of gender, which causes or may cause physical, sexual, psychological harm or suffering to a woman, as well as threats to commit such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether in public or private life. It is concluded that in order to minimize the spread of such a negative phenomenon among the population, it is worth: to ensure the conduct of educational trainings and seminars for specialists of services for women and family affairs, social work, medical and pedagogical workers, volunteers to identify and prevent this type of crime; to strengthen public participation in the development of mechanisms and information on crimes related to domestic violence against women; improve the improvement of the collection of information of actors implementing measures to prevent and counter domestic violence and gender-based violence and establish better communication and cooperation between different bodies; ensure that the public is adequately informed about preventive measures and the ability to respond to crimes of domestic violence against women.

The article is devoted to the analysis of gender differences in readiness for marriage of high school pupils. It systematizes the factors of psychological readiness of young men and women for family life in today’s conditions. Adolescence, as a time of individual’s vital self-determination, is characterized by the experience of various social roles and activities. Psychological readiness for family life includes a stable positive motivation to start a family, the development of personal qualities of the family man, the ability to empathically understand the partner, constructive and self-affirming behavior in marriage. Theoretical analysis of the peculiarities of personality formation in adolescence, the specifics of readiness for marriage and family-role expectations of senior school age pupils; methodical bases and methods of research are described. The results of an empirical study of gender differences in marriage readiness of high school pupils, their focus on understanding, emotional attraction and authority in marriage are analyzed. It was found that girls are characterized by a strong motivational willingness to start a family, more focused on understanding with a partner and emotional involvement in the relationship. They are clearly aware of the specifics of family responsibilities, their own role in family life, the specifics of the organization of married life. Instead, for boys, the process of exercising authority and taking a dominant position in communication is more important. Girls consider the most important to be the achievement of a common point of view, acceptance from a partner, demonstration to him of acceptance of his position. In the success of family interaction, they pay special attention to emotional interaction and intimacy, manifestations of love and support. The boys, on the other hand, strive to realize their authority and dominance in family relations, expect the woman to submit to their position and views, without giving a special role to issues of understanding and emotional inclusion. They have no intrinsic motivational need to start a family. Young people think little about the relationship between family roles, the organization of family life and building a system of support for family life.

From the earliest historical studies on Atlantic slavery to the present day, historians have been interested in the development of family ties among enslaved people. They have debated, denied, questioned, and celebrated the ability of enslaved people to forge meaningful family relationships and kinship networks in the face of the traumas and violence of slavery. Arguments over the legacies of slavery and the actions of enslavers and enslaved alike in the context of family life have extended beyond the academic world; histories of the slave family have been used and abused in political debates, addressed and expressed in popular culture, and connected to contemporary concerns relating to social structures, racial politics, and gender dynamics across the Americas. In broad terms, scholarship on the slave family has moved beyond a focus on rigid consanguineal links or a biologically based model, as well as challenged Eurocentric perceptions as to the normality of nuclear or patriarchal structures in family life. Instead, historians have revealed the diverse forms of kinship and family relations found across and within the Atlantic world, noting connections, adaptations, and retentions among the various actors present in the slaving zones of the Atlantic world. Historians have done tremendous work in connecting the destruction and reconstruction of familial units in slavery to wider themes relating to resistance, trauma, and survival in the face of oppression. Pioneering work on enslaved women, and attention to the reproductive and productive exploitation women faced, has likewise revealed the centrality of sex, gender, and the family to the strategies of domination employed by enslavers in the Americas. These scholars also revealed how family life could provide a measure of respite, act as a site of pleasure, and serve as the foundation of a culture of resistance for enslaved people. Debates on the slave family thus provide insight into the most personal and intimate areas of enslaved people’s lives and reveal the complex power dynamics, negotiations, contest, and resistance between enslavers and enslaved people in the Atlantic world. In the rest of this piece I outline key texts relating to the slave family, focusing on scholarly monographs and structured roughly by geography. Scholarly articles have not been referenced, outside of one or two significant pieces, but readers should make use of the specific journals cited to explore the topic of the slave family. Select online databases and banks of primary source material are also listed.

The article notes that each culture has its own «normative» model of the family, characterized by its defining parameters. These parameters reflect different indicators – descriptors – as attributes that determine the corresponding value and behavior in society. The types of family relationships identified by humanitarian science are revealed. It is proved that in a retrospective of the historical development of mankind, the relationships not only of the family and society, but also of the family and the individual changed, which depended on many factors. The article analyzes the negative trends of marriage and family relations, it is noted that along with the form of actual (civil) marriage, there is a tendency to the appearance of a large number of other forms of marriage unions: guest, concubinate, open marriage, business marriage, fictitious, creative union, polygyny, group marriage, same-sex cohabitation, virtual marriage (web-marriage), etc. This trend leads to a change in the content of the phenomenon of marriage, the adoption of actual marriage as a social norm. It is noted that today the semantic attitudes of a person are deformed and the concepts of the purpose and values of life are distorted, there is a noticeable turn of mass consciousness from the collectivist values of the family to the individual values of the person, which to a certain extent disorganizes both family life and social relations. It is noted that according to the results of the study, the authors of this article developed an educational module "Modern Family" for students of a different professional fields.

This chapter provides a case analysis of the Catholic Church’s Synod on the Family, an assembly of bishops convened in Rome in October 2014 and October 2015, to address the changing nature of Catholics’ lived experiences of marriage and family life. The chapter argues that the Synod can be considered a postsecular event owing to its deft negotiation of the mutual relevance of doctrinal ideas and Catholic secular realities. It shows how its extensive pre-Synod empirical surveys of Catholics worldwide, its language-group dialogical structure, and the content and outcomes of its deliberations, by and large, met postsecular expectations, despite impediments posed by clericalism and doctrinal politics. The chapter traces the Synod’s deliberations, and shows how it managed to forge a more inclusive understanding of divorced and remarried Catholics, even as it reaffirmed Church teaching on marriage and also set aside a more inclusive recognition of same-sex relationships.

AbstractInternational studies have shown effects of family relations on Internet addiction in young people. This research aimed to outline a discriminant profile of young people classified as dependent and not dependent on the Internet regarding to socio-biodemographic variables to parenting practices, parent-child conflict and interparental conflict. The sample consisted of 200 students (152 girls and 48 boys), between 15 and 24 years of age, 85.5% reside in Rio Grande do Sul and 14.5% in other Brazilian states. Participants responded individually to the protocol available online. The results showed that interparental conflict, parent-child conflict and the educational practice of supervision of paternal behavior discriminate dependents on Internet. The educational practice of maternal emotional support was the only discriminating variable for non-dependents. These national findings corroborate the international context studies and reinforce the importance of including the family in promotion and prevention of mental health of young people.

The article presents a comparative analysis of innovations in Ossetians family sphere and their synthesis with traditional components of family life. Special attention is paid to the peculiarities of interaction between such regulatory institutions as Ossetian customary law, church orders, and the legislation of the Russian Empire. The theoretical basis of the work is based on the concepts of those scientist who researched the problems of traditional marriage and family relations, the peculiarities of family transformation in the period of post-reform modernization. The source base for the article was previously unpublished archival materials: court cases on divorce, bride prices; the Vladikavkaz diocese correspondence with the district chief; annual reports of the district chiefs of Ossetia to the chief of the Terek region. The novelty is predetermined by a substantive appeal to innovations and their concrete results: contradictions between the traditional way of life of the family and certain transformations, for example, changes in gender stereotypes, etc. The object of the research is a traditional Ossetian family of the XIX century with customs and traditions typical for that period. Our goal is to identify the features of introducing innovations applied by Russian administration in the marriage and family sphere of the Ossetians. It should be clarified that only specific aspects of traditional norms and attitudes of the Patriarchal family are subject to scientific analysis. It is suggested that it was in the family where the most significant transformations of gender stereotypes took place, which was also reflected in some aspects of the ethnic consciousness of the Ossetians.

The article analyzes the spiritual and moral field of Orthodox culture and religion, comprehends the essence of love in Orthodoxy, the deep Orthodox roots of marriage and family relations, as well as the problems of modern youth, the influence of Orthodox values on its spiritual formation. It is proved that today more than ever become relevant: patience, mutual understanding, respect, sacrifice, correct hierarchy, getting rid of egocentrism, the unity of spouses, becoming ‘one flesh’ at the level of spirit, soul and body, the idea that following these principles makes it possible to build a really strong family relationships, regardless of the transformational processes that devalue the modern family.
