The report highlights the results of sociological studies devoted to the value system of the Russian society. Value priorities of Russians are considered in dynamics and in comparison with other European countries. In the light of empirical data various stereotypes and autostereotypes of national identity are critically analyzed, including the widespread myths about Russians’ special inclination towards collectivism and the lack of civil society in Russia. On the basis of data obtained by an original method of psychosemantic sounding the deep structures of the collective psyche together with the specific social representations of Russians and the “world view” that the majority of them share are analyzed. Considerable attention is also paid to the subject-matters of national pride, and to the peculiarities of Russian historical consciousness. On the basis empirical data collected by means of sociological research the question of Russia’s place in the system of relations of East – West is posed and discussed.

Currently, neither conclusion nor execution of the contract for the performance of sociological research have legal regulation. The paper proves that the contract under consideration refers to civil contracts for the provision of services. Thus, in case of a dispute, the general rules of Chapter 39 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation (“Reimbursable Services”) should be applied. The ICC/ESOMAR Code applies to sociological services relations if the parties in the agreement between them have stated the provisions of the ICC/ESOMAR. The essential terms of the contract for the performance of sociological studies using the questionnaire should include: the subject matter of the contract; the type and characteristics of the information collected; the method of research; the study respondents; confidentiality of respondents’ personal data; the term (period) and the place of the study. The subject matter of the contract under consideration covers the main actions of the parties: the performer conducts the sociological research (collects, purposefully processes and transmits certain information), and the customer accepts and pays for services rendered. The collected data is intended for establishing and analyzing social trends, patterns of social development, solving the problems of the society as a whole, population groups and a separate team. Non-essential terms of the contract for the performance of sociological studies using the questionnaire method include the terms stipulating the method of conducting the questionnaire, the quality of the research, the registration of the result of the study and the procedure for the transfer of information, the amount and procedure of remuneration for services rendered, the terms regulating liability for non-performance of the duties of the parties. The author proposes to enshrine in the law a simple written form of any kind of contract for the performance of sociological research regardless of the price of the contract, the personality of the customer and the performer indicating that failure to comply with the simple written form of the contract entails its invalidity.

The article discusses features of patriotism and patriotic orientations of modern youth. Features of understanding patriotism among young people are considered on the basis of materials from all-Russian and author's sociological studies among young people in Russian regions, analysis of main characteristics of youth patriotic orientations is carried out. Study of youth patriotism are in the field of increased attention of scientists in connection with consequences of the post-Soviet reforms, which contributed to transformation of normative-value system and negatively affected formation and development of spiritual and moral values of Russians. The author's interest is focused on dynamics and current state of value patriotic complex of youth. This problem seems to be extremely relevant, since value foundation of young people will directly influence progressive future development of the whole society. Real patriotism of all Russians and young people is quite rare in everyday life. It includes not just love, affection to the homeland as patriotic feelings, patriotic values such as willingness to make sacrifices for the sake of their Fatherland, but also patriotic activities aimed at transforming living space in accordance with their role as a responsible representative of civil society and state. All-Russian studies indicate the discrepancy between declared principles and behavioral attitudes of youth. This requires turning to comprehensive analysis of patriotism in youth environment, detecting indicators of patriotism and identifying typical basic characteristics of true young patriots of Russia.

This study investigated how young teenagers, as members of a strong religious organization, dealt with the school situation and the encounter with mainstream culture taking place at school during the final years in Swedish primary school (age 13–15 years). The purpose was to explore possible strategies that members of a minority group, in this case the Jehovah’s Witnesses, developed in order to deal with a value system differing from that of the group. We interviewed eleven former members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses about their final years in compulsory Swedish communal school. The ages of the interviewees ranged between 24 and 46 years, and the interviewed group comprised six men and five women. Nine of the eleven interviewees had grown up in the countryside or in villages. All but two were ethnic Swedes. The time that had passed since leaving the movement ranged from quite recently to 20 years ago. The results revealed three strategies; Standing up for Your Beliefs, Escaping, and Living in Two Worlds. The first two strategies are based on a One-World View, and the third strategy, Living in Two Worlds, implies a Two-World View, accepting to a certain extent both the Jehovah’s Witnesses outlook as well as that of ordinary society. The strategy Standing up for Your Beliefs can be described as straightforward, outspoken, and bold; the youngsters did not show any doubts about their belief. The second subgroup showed an unshakeable faith, but suffered psychological stress since their intentions to live according to their belief led to insecurity in terms of how to behave, and also left them quite isolated. These people reported more absence from school. The youngsters using the strategy Living in Two Worlds appeared to possess the ability to sympathize with both world views, and were more adaptable in different situations.

The article provides a comparative analysis of the influence of L.N. Tolstoy and I.I. Sergiev (John of Kronstadt) on the formation of personal worldview in Russian society. The analysis is based on the testimonies of the contemporaries and the previously not reissued publication of “Novy Put” (“New Way”) journal on the subject. In the context of the declared problematics, special attention is paid to the question of transformation of religious consciousness in the course of the personality formation in relation to the period under consideration (the beginning of the 20th century). The author reveals and analyzes the main components of the life stand of Tolstoy and Father John of Kronstadt in the context of their influence on contemporaries. The results of the study allow to reveal the following antitheses that characterize Tolstoy and John of Kronstadt, respectively: doubt - faith, search for oneself – following the once chosen path, preaching of non-resistance as part of the philosophy of not-doing (not doing evil) – preaching of active upholding of faith (doing good), “simple living” – real life with and for common people.

Kata kunci: catatan perjalanan Viktorian, transportasi, wisataABSTRACTNarratives presented by Victorian British writers about their travels to America assume theavailability of a transprtation infrastructure system. Such a system is related to the travelnarrative in three things, namely, (1) as a material base for travel, (2) as a narrative substructurehistory, and (3) as the subject-matter of the narratives. Fanny Trollope’s Domestic Mannerof the Americans (1832) is a model for the way transportation infrastructure determinesnarratological aspects, namely order and perspective in the structure of the travel narrative. The piece also presents transportation as a subject-matter in its text although it does notgo so far as do Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Amateur Emigrant (1895). In discussingtransportation Henry James’ The American Scene is also relevant because, despite it’s notexplicitly speaking of transportation as a topic nor does it show the convential characteristicsof the travel narrative, the work represents a British-American trans-Atlantic world viewas a given. This world view also considers trans-Atlantic travels as a kind of voyage acrosstime, implying the discomfort of nineteenth-century British writers concerning the socialtransition into a democratic society represented by America as a metaphor. Keywords: Victorian travel narrative, transportation, tourism

Introduction. Based on modern social trends, the demand becomes not only for professionally trained people, but also for the level of their general culture, value system and, ultimately, intelligence. At the same time, there is no place for intellectuals and educating intellectuals in program documents on educational activities, although this task is very logical for the pedagogical practice of a developed society. This work presents the experience of the author's analysis of the psychological nature of the intelligence of an officer. Consistently considering the essence and structure of such a complex phenomenon, the structure and the real functioning of the values that allow characterizing the subject as an intellectual are ascertained.Materials and methods. As the main research methodology, the authors use sociological (I.S. Kon), culturological adapted to solve the problems of this work (M.S. Kagan), historiographic (A.V. Popov), systemic (I.V. Blauberg, V.A. Lektersky, V.N. Sadovsky, S.L. Rubinstein, M.S. Kagan, N.V. Kuzmina) and functional approaches (P.K. Anokhin, M.S. Kagan, N. Wiener). The main research methods were: hypothetical-deductive method; analysis, synthesis, comparison, analogy and abstraction; systemic method and modeling.Results. The result of the study is that the authors identified and justified the structural psychological qualities of intelligence as the subjective characteristics of an officer and examined the basic mechanisms of formation of intellectual values.Discussion and Conclusions. The required criteria for being intelligent as a  subject characteristics of an officer is the level of education (self education)of an officer, his manners, the scope of his values , existential assessment –correlating every fact he faces with general life-span problems of objective reality, having respect for values of others and being ready for talk to employees and  superiors as well as the representatives of other social groups, other cultures, nationalities, confessions and professions which requires dialog in search of optimal forms and options of interaction. The cornerstone principle for intelligence of the officer are, therefore, his education and upbringing, ideological conviction in his own values and readiness for self-sacrifice for their sake.

Social inequality is a central topic of research in the social sciences. Decades of research have deepened our understanding of the characteristics and causes of social inequality. At the same time, social inequality has markedly increased during the past 40 years, and progress on reducing poverty and improving the life chances of Americans in the bottom half of the distribution has been frustratingly slow. How useful has sociological research been to the task of reducing inequality? The authors analyze the stance taken by sociological research on the subject of reducing inequality. They identify an imbalance in the literature between the discipline’s continual efforts to motivate the plausibility of large-scale change and its lesser efforts to identify feasible strategies of change either through social policy or by enhancing individual and local agency with the potential to cumulate into meaningful progress on inequality reduction.

Abstract This article uncovers the nexus between the state- and peacebuilding efforts and religious violent extremism. Exploring an exemplary lifestory interview with a directly affected individual, the article makes use of empirical data to inform the current theoretical debates on the subject. The article shows how the inefficient state and peace building efforts unintendedly lead to a rise in religious violent extremism. These errors from the international community in Kosovo became a source of religious violent extremism in the case of Kosovo, as the exemplary lifestory shows.

Values are a component of the human personality that affects a world-view, opinions, emotions and behaviors. This applies equally to managerial and executive behavior, while in the case of rescue organizations, both levels of behavior are also an important factor of organizational effectiveness. The aim of the article is to show the relationship between the ethical aspects of rescue operations and the value system represented by mountain rescuers. The applied idiographic research perspective can become an example for research on other types of organizations and employee teams, including the armed forces.
