This research was done to check the influence of Barbie movies among youth. As most of the time the portrayal of women, even in the face of Barbie is feeble, submissive, oppressed and dependent. Feminism and the presentation of women is a vast perspective. The study revealed that there is women empowerment through Barbie movies and Barbie and women itself is not a symbol of sexism but a pronounced and considerable character of our life with broader ascendancy. For all the three questions of women empowerment the total percentage were more towards agreement i.e.; 45%, moderate 26%, disagree 13%, strongly agree 7.6%, while strongly disagree 5.3%. Youth is leaner towards its positive aspect rather than negativity. Some other aspects like, content analysis of those Barbie movies can be done, which are presenting more independent and empowered Barbies, or scenes can analyze that content is related to feminism.

Abstract The article deals with the transformation of the Crimean Tatars’ institutions and discourses after the 2014 conflict around Crimea. It shows the change in the balance of power of traditional institutions such as Mejlis and Muftiyat, which for many years represented secular and religious components of Crimean Tatars’ ethnic identity. It tells how the Mejlis was dismissed from the political stage in Crimea, while the Muftiyat has enjoyed a great support by new authorities. This transformation and threats to societal security inevitably led to reassessment of previous views and goals of the main actors in the Crimean Tatar community and the formation of new institutions with hybrid composition and discourse. The article focuses on organization such as ‘Crimean solidarity,’ which was formed in 2016 as a reaction to authorities’ pressure over the Crimean Tatars. Using discourse analysis of statements of activists of this organization and content analysis of social media, the author presents the main topics of its discourse and types of activity. She shows how the traditional Islamic discourse of activists of this organization has been transformed by the incorporation of the main concepts of secular discourse developed by the Mejlis. The author argues that the appearance of ‘Crimean solidarity’ indicates the blurring of lines between secular and religious, and ethnic and Islamic in the Crimean Tatar society. It shows how people with different backgrounds and agendas manage to leave their differences aside to support each other in the face of a common threat.

IntroductionThe purpose of the study presented here was to determine how well tactile graphics (specifically data analysis graphs) in secondary mathematics and science braille textbooks correlated with the print graphics.MethodA content analysis was conducted on 598 separate data analysis graphics from 10 mathematics and science textbooks. The researchers (the authors) cross-validated the findings through a comparative analysis of the tactile graphics of five shared textbooks.ResultsDiscrepancies were found between the print graphic and the tactile graphic in 12.5% of the sample. The most common discrepancy was differences in how data lines and data points were individualized in the print graphic compared to the tactile graphic. On the basis of the reviews of the graphics, the researchers answered a 5-point Likert-scale question (from 1 = strongly disagree to 5 = strongly agree) asking if the “tactile graphic is a valid representation of the print graphic.” The overall score for the sample was 3.71 (SD = 1.60), with a Krippendorff alpha of 0.6328 (the measure of disagreement and alpha > 0.70 are consider moderate).DiscussionThe findings demonstrate that while the majority of tactile graphics have good correlations to their print counterparts, there is still room for improvement. Some transcribers omitted a tactile graphic without providing a reason. Forty graphics (6.7%) were omitted from the braille transcription. Two textbooks were missing more than 85% of the tactile graphics of the data graphs.Implications for PractitionersTactile graphics in math and science books are important for a student to understand. Although most transcribers do an excellent job of creating valid tactile graphics, problems with many graphics still exist in textbooks. Practitioners need constantly to review the tactile graphics that are used in all classrooms and be prepared to create their own if needed.

Abstract Advertising, by its accessibility, is incredibly powerful in spreading stereotypical representations. The way women are portrayed in advertising in different countries and cultures has been a subject of research for more decades. The paper aims to examine the way women are portrayed in advertising campaigns in Romania. The study focuses on finding the stereotypes used and their characteristics by qualitatively analyzing ads from brands’ YouTube channels. We identified seven stereotypes and the analysis shows that women portrayals are idealized in Romanian advertising. Although there are some modern approaches to the representations, ads do not reflect contemporary female roles. The most frequent stereotype is the Next-Door Woman, a stereotype that emphasis on the cuteness of the woman, not on her intelligence. Romanian brands’ advertising lacks campaigns promoting women empowerment.

The content of Malaysia films as well as the film posters itself reflects the “face” or culture of Malaysian peoples, especially the Malays. Content analysis was the main methodology been used in this study, which by analysing content portrayed in 12 movie posters that has been selected randomly from year 1955 until 2013. By using the Roland Barth’s semiotic theoretical approach, 12 Malay movie posters were chosen for the study purpose which are film posters for film Penarek Becha (1955), Siti Muslihat (1962), Cinta dan Lagu (1976), Panglima Badul (1978), Ali Setan (1985), Kekasih Awal dan Akhir (1993), Maria Mariana (1996), Perempuan Melayu Terakhir (1999), Spinning Gasing (2001), Puteri Gunung Ledang (2004), 1957: Hati Malaya (2007) and Tanda Putera (2013). The Malay cultural elements identified in the Malay movie posters are through the language in the poster, characters in posters, wardrobe and make-up of the characters, equipment’s, background locations and symbols in the poster. Thus, the main question here is what is the “Malay” that is being portrayed in the Malay film posters? and the Malay film poster actually describing “Malay face”?. These questions will only be answered by studying and reviewing the contents of Malay film posters as a cultural representation that reflects the Malay culture (our movie is our face). The awareness on the issue of the importance of providing a proper understanding of “our faces” in the display of the contents of Malay film posters is seen as purely pursuit of preserving Malay culture continues to grow and can be inherited from one generation to the next generation in the future.
