Designed by the meta-synthesis method, the researchers examined the studies designed on the Understanding by Design (UbD) and implemented and their findings were qualitatively evaluated. It tried to obtain a comprehensive and holistic perspective on the effects and reflections of the model. 48 UbD studies were accessed from 6 databases, and 12 research findings were included after three criteria in this meta-synthesis. The findings were reached through a six-stage data analysis process; they were analyzed inductively with content analysis. The validity and credibility of this analysis process have been brought under control with the coding reliability processes and the audit technique. According to the conclusions, in the development of units based on UbD, teachers generally did not create goals/standards by collecting evaluation evidence of UbD; it was concluded that the inadequacy of this was mostly due to model inexperience, the school's facilities/conditions, teacher stagnation and emotional state, and inadequate pedagogy knowledge. Findings showed that teaching based on UbD improves students' cognitive development and participatory insights. This meta-synthesis study guides researchers who want to reference UbD as a design framework in a unit study in the overall assessment of UbD.

Although grounded theory and qualitative content analysis are similar in some respects, they differ as well; yet the differences between the two have rarely been made clear in the literature. The purpose of this article was to clarify ambiguities and reduce confusion about grounded theory and qualitative content analysis by identifying similarities and differences in the two based on a literature review and critical reflection on the authors’ own research. Six areas of difference emerged: (a) background and philosophical base, (b) unique characteristics of each method, (c) goals and rationale of each method, (d) data analysis process, (e) outcomes of the research, and (f) evaluation of trustworthiness. This article provides knowledge that can assist researchers and students in the selection of appropriate research methods for their inquiries.

Qualitative content analysis consists of conventional, directed and summative approaches for data analysis. They are used for provision of descriptive knowledge and understandings of the phenomenon under study. However, the method underpinning directed qualitative content analysis is insufficiently delineated in international literature. This paper aims to describe and integrate the process of data analysis in directed qualitative content analysis. Various international databases were used to retrieve articles related to directed qualitative content analysis. A review of literature led to the integration and elaboration of a stepwise method of data analysis for directed qualitative content analysis. The proposed 16-step method of data analysis in this paper is a detailed description of analytical steps to be taken in directed qualitative content analysis that covers the current gap of knowledge in international literature regarding the practical process of qualitative data analysis. An example of “the resuscitation team members' motivation for cardiopulmonary resuscitation” based on Victor Vroom's expectancy theory is also presented. The directed qualitative content analysis method proposed in this paper is a reliable, transparent, and comprehensive method for qualitative researchers. It can increase the rigour of qualitative data analysis, make the comparison of the findings of different studies possible and yield practical results.

Discussions on Tawassul have been done by scholars since antiquity. However, the diversity of beliefs that have emerged lately including the existence of the 'Selawat Perdana' and ‘Malam Cinta Rasul’ phenomenon that was brought by Habib group causing discussion on this issue to become warm again. Among the expressions introduced by the Habib group in their occasion were al-Madad Ya Rasulullahwhich in that expression includes the practice of Tawassul with the dead and Tawassul with the word Madad. What is more alarming is that the Islamic community is so easy to accept the practices introduced by Habib group because of their position as the descendants of the Prophet. Hence, this paper is produced to re-evaluate the arguments submitted by the Habib group in defending the practice of Tawassul with the dead and with the word of Madad. This study is a qualitative study using case study method where the data collection process is done through content analysis and internet studies. Meanwhile, the data analysis process is done through descriptive, thematic and comparative approaches. The findings show that the arguments posed by some of the Habib's groups against these two issues were not strong and thus the necessity of the practices was also questioned. The results of this study have important implications for the Muslim community to evaluate whether the Tawassul practices highlighted by the Habibians are in accordance with the law or otherwise.

This article examines Abdurrahman Wahid's (often referred to as Gus Dur) views on transformative Islamic education. This is a qualitative study conducted in a library. This research compiled a collection of Gus Dur's writings on transformative Islamic education. The data collection technique used in this study was content analysis. In comparison, the authors used procedures for compiling, connecting, reducing, presenting, and withdrawing data during the data analysis process. According to Abdurrahman Wahid's thinking, this study discovered two concepts of transformative Islamic education: peace education and multicultural education. In informal education, Gus Dur's idea of peace education can be implemented through a sociopolitical lens through cooperative learning strategies. In contrast, in non-formal education, it can be implemented through dialogue and deliberation strategies. Multicultural education is Gus Dur's vision of education to foster heterogeneity in Indonesian society. Because, as Gus Dur points out, Indonesia is made up of numerous ethnic groups, tribes, cultures, and religions. As a result, the Indonesian people face the possibility of conflict over religion, ethnicity, and culture.
