Weed vegetation analysis is important to do in order to know the composition and structure of the vegetation to determine the appropriate weed control measures. This study aims to compare the composition and structure of weeds on peatland immature oil palm plantations and mature palm. This research was conducted from October to December 2020. Vegetation analysis was carried out using a survei method with purposive sampling technique. The parameters observed were density, frequency, dominance, important value index (INP), summed dominance ratio (SDR) and species diversity index (H'). The results showed that the composition of weeds on immature oil palm plantations was found 12 species with number of individual 847, while on mature palm found 9 species with number of individuals 980. The dominant weed structure on immature oil palm plantations is Lempuyangan with SDR values 29,9 % and mature palm is Bandotan with SDR value 23,4%. Weed diversity index on immature oil palm plantations and mature palm is categorized as high with a value of 1.50 for immature oil palm plantations and 1.65 for mature palm.

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) belong to the Arecaceae family, is economically valuable for oil production. The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth of immature oil palm intercropped with red chili pepper and to evaluate the best spacing for red chilli cultivation between immature oil palm. The study was conducted in Rimba Jaya Village, Air Kumbang District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. The study began in October 2017 until February 2018. The design used for the red chili pepper cultivation was a one-factor Randomized Block Design.  Spacing used as treatments, namely: (M1 = 50  x 50 cm ; M2 = 60  x 60 cm ; M3 = 70  x 70 cm). Treatments were placed in 5 groups. The results showed that plant height, stem diameter, canopy diameter and the greenness level of palm oil leaves did not affect by the presence of red chili pepper. While spacing of 50  x 50 cm provided a positive response to the growth and yield of chili pepper.  The highest yield of red chili was 10.41 kg produced in 50  x 50 cm spacing.

The wider the area of oil palm plantations in Indonesia, the more palm oil mills will process more oil palm fruit bunches and produce waste one of them is liquid waste. The amount of liquid waste that is more and more if not treated properly will cause environmental pollution. The research aim to study the effect of liquid waste of oil palm factory (LWOPF) with biopori method to the growth of immature oil palm plant. The experiment was conducted in oil palm plantation of Agricultural Faculty of Riau University from May to July 2017. The experiment was arrange drandomized complete design consisting of 13 treatments (without LWOPF; 5; 7.5 and 10 liters LWOPFeachapplied in 1, 2, 3 and 4 biopore/plants), each repeated three times.The parameters observed were plant height, number of midrib, length of midrib, number of leaves, width and length of leaves. The results showed that the application ofLWOPF dose 7.5 liters applied in 4 biopore holes / plants increased addition the number of midrib and the leaves, the width and length of the leaves compared to without LWOPF and the highest than another treatment, but the addition of plant high increased at doses 7.5 liters in 3 biopore/plant and highest than another treatment.Key words : Liquid Wastes of Oil Palm Factory, Biopore Holes, Oil Palm Plants

Ultisol have low fertility, the sub soil of ultisol have fertility and organic matter content are very low. Compost of oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) and humic acid are useful improving fertility and organic matter content so that it can support growth of the plant. The research aims to study the effect of application of compost OPEFB and humic acid on sub soil ultisol to growth of the oil palm seedling’s in the main nursery. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, Pekanbaru. The experiment were carried out in the form of factorial with a completely randomized design. The first factor is compost of OPEFB that consists of 4 levels (0, 25, 50 and 75 g/polybag) and as the second factor is the humic acid that consists of 3 level (0, 25 and 50 g/polybag). The parameters observed were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance, followed by Duncan’s multiple range test at 5%.The parameters measured were plant height, in the number of leaves, the increase in diameter stump, root crown ratio, dry seedling weight. The results slowed that the application of compost of OPEFB 25-75 g/polybag followed by humic acid 25, 50 g/polybag significantly increased plant height, in the number of leaves, the increase in diameter stump, root crown ratio, dry seedling weight composed than without compost OPEFB and humic acid, but now significantly with the other combination action.

Good plantation management is important to increase the productivity of immature oil palm plants, one of which is chemical weed control. This study aims to (1) determine the dosage of paraquat herbicide which is effective in controlling weeds in the area of immature oil palm plantations, (2) find out the differences in the composition of weed species on immature oil palm plates after application of the paraquat herbicide, (3) find out the phytotoxicity of paraquat herbicides in immature oil palm plants after the application of the paraquat dichloride herbicide. This research was carried out in the farmers' oil palm plantation in Jontor Village, Gayabaru District , Central Lampung Regency and Weed Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung from November 2017 to February 2018. This research used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 4 replications and 6 treatments consisting dose of paraquat dichloride herbicide of 375g / ha, 500 g / ha, 625 g / ha, 750 g / ha, and mechanical weeding and without weed control (control). Homogeneity of the various data was tested by the Bartlett test, data additivity was tested by the Tukey test and the difference in the mean was tested with the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at α 5 level. The result of the study showed that : (1) the herbicide paraquat dichloride dose of 375-750 g / ha effectively control weeds in total, weed leaf width of up to 8 week after application, weed grasses and weeds puzzle to 4 week after application, (2) the herbicide paraquat dichloride dose of 375-750 g / ha is effective in controlling Praxelis clematidea weeds up to 8 week after application, weed Ottochloa nodosa and Asystasia gangetica up to 4 week after application, (3) paraquate dichloride dosage levels 375-750 g / ha resulting in differences in weed composition at 4, 8 and 12 week after application , (4) dosages of 375 - 750 g / ha parakuat dichloride herbicides applied to dishes not poisoning immature oil palm plants.

Information of legitimacy of oil palm progenies is important to guaranty the quality and to control commercial seeds procedures. A true and legitimate cross will produce progeny which has a combination of their parent's allele. The information could be obtained early in the nursery stage through DNA fingerprinting analysis. Simple Sequence Repeats (SSR) is one of DNA markers used for DNA fingerprinting, since the marker system has advantages to acquire information of allele per individual in population and efficiency diverse allele of progeny and their parents. The aim of the research is to obtain legitimacy of 12 progenies analyzing in the oil palm nursery stage. Thirteen SSR markers were used to analyze 12 crossings number of oil palm. The genotypes data by alleles of SSR inferred and quantified using Gene Marker® Software version 2.4.0 Soft Genetics® LLC and analyzed based on Mendel's Law of Segregation. The result showed based on heredity pattern of progeny and their parent's allele that progenies H were indicated genetically derived from their known parents while progenies from A and G indicated as illegitimate crossing. Probability value for legitimacy of progenies of 9 other crosses has 0.031 and 0.5. Legitimacy analysis of progeny using SSR markers could be used to control the quality of crossing material and earlier selection in the oil palm nursery.

Abstract Background Hemibiotrophic pathogen such as the fungal pathogen Ganoderma boninense that is destructive to oil palm, manipulates host defense mechanism by strategically switching from biotrophic to necrotrophic phase. Our previous study revealed two distinguishable expression profiles of oil palm genes that formed the basis in deducing biotrophic phase at early interaction which switched to necrotrophic phase at a later stage of infection. Results The present report is a continuing study from our previous published transcriptomic profiling of oil palm seedlings against G. boninense. We focused on identifying differentially expressed genes (DEGs) encoding transcription factors (TFs) from the same RNA-seq data; resulting in 106 upregulated and 108 downregulated TFs being identified. The DEGs are involved in four established defense-related pathways responsible for cell wall modification, reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated signaling, programmed cell death (PCD) and plant innate immunity. We discovered upregulation of JUNGBRUNNEN 1 (EgJUB1) during the fungal biotrophic phase while Ethylene Responsive Factor 113 (EgERF113) demonstrated prominent upregulation when the palm switches to defense against necrotrophic phase. EgJUB1 was shown to have a binding activity to a 19 bp palindromic SNBE1 element, WNNYBTNNNNNNNAMGNHW found in the promoter region of co-expressing EgHSFC-2b. Further in silico analysis of promoter regions revealed co-expression of EgJUB1 with TFs containing SNBE1 element with single nucleotide change at either the 5th or 18th position. Meanwhile, EgERF113 binds to both GCC and DRE/CRT elements promoting plasticity in upregulating the downstream defense-related genes. Both TFs were proven to be nuclear-localized based on subcellular localization experiment using onion epidermal cells. Conclusion Our findings demonstrated unprecedented transcriptional reprogramming of specific TFs potentially to enable regulation of a specific set of genes during different infection phases of this hemibiotrophic fungal pathogen. The results propose the intricacy of oil palm defense response in orchestrating EgJUB1 during biotrophic and EgERF113 during the subsequent transition to the necrotrophic phase. Binding of EgJUB1 to SNBE motif instead of NACBS while EgERF113 to GCC-box and DRE/CRT motifs is unconventional and not normally associated with pathogen infection. Identification of these phase-specific oil palm TFs is important in designing strategies to tackle or attenuate the progress of infection.
