Abstract This study focuses on regional entrepreneurial ecosystems in the largest emerging economy in the world. We use a two-stage structural model distinguishing between two sets of factors, those that have direct impact on entrepreneurial activities and those that have indirect impact. Based on an empirical analysis of 263 Chinese prefecture-level municipalities from 2008 to 2015, we find that human capital, knowledge creation, and access to finance are the main factors that drive local entrepreneurial activity. New technology-based startups are significant predictors of the regional stock of human capital and the presence of risk finance suggesting the unique role of technology-based firms in promoting sustainable growth in regional entrepreneurial ecosystems. The presence of research-intensive universities also has a strong positive impact on regional entrepreneurial ecosystems.

The importance of tourism business as a factor in promoting socio-economic development of regions is noted. The necessity of development of practical recommendations on increase of efficiency of economic activity of small forms of tourist business is substantiated. The importance of green tourism as a component of the national tourism business is pointed out. The model of the organization of tourist activity in the form of a green estate on the basis of a peasant economy is developed. The purpose of the project is the organization of maintenance of effective functioning of a green estate of a basic category as a basis for the further development. It is planned to use 0.3 hectares of land for this form of economic activity. It is also planned to involve the available material, technical and labor resources of a peasant family for the organization of this area of entrepreneurial activity. The main idea of the project is to implement on a regular basis a wide range of cultural and entertainment activities for client groups of 40 to 60 people. In particular, it is assumed that the amount of current costs in general will not change, only in the autumn-winter period will increase slightly utility bills. Alternative models of organization of economic activity of green estates are developed. The first option involves the presence of 1 working person who performs all production and economic, maintenance, accounting and management and other functions, receiving 20,000 hryvnias each month. In this case, the employee must have a wide range of professional competencies, which in some way negatively affects their practical implementation. The comparative analysis of efficiency of functioning of a peasant economy in the field of green tourism and other kinds of activity is carried out. The greater attractiveness of green tourism for the peasant economy as a use of available resource potential has been proved. It is noted that the proposed models should be considered as a starting project for the further development of this form of rural family business.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyse the determinants of entrepreneurial activity in the Nordic countries over the period of years 2004-2013 to provide supportive material for the Nordic entrepreneurial policy makers with specific focus on the role of necessity/opportunity-driven entrepreneurship, administrative barriers and the research and development (R&D) sector. Design/methodology/approach Quantitative study employed panel regression analysis with fixed effects estimator to test the impact of determinants on entrepreneurial activity operationalized as a rate of registered business activity and as an established business ownership rate. Findings The results obtained for the both dependent variables did not substantially differ from each other or the supported hypothesis stating a positive relationship between unemployment rate, GDP per capita and entrepreneurial activity. Also a negative impact of administrative barriers was found. However, no statistically significant positive impact of the R&D sector was observed. Practical implications Nordic entrepreneurial policy makers should put more effort into the reduction of administrative barriers towards founding enterprises and support entrepreneurship during the times of higher unemployment rates. Further evaluation of Nordic R&D policies is strongly needed, since no positive impacts towards entrepreneurship were found. Originality/value The empirical analysis was conducted based on the research gap in the studies related to the Nordic entrepreneurial policies and perceived need for the policy recommendations that are provided.
