The thematic focus of this issue of the journal "Religious Freedom" was determined by the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Religious Freedom: Updating of Family Values", held on September 24-25, 2018 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Since 1994, conferences, which discussed various aspects of the existence of religious freedom, have become traditional. They necessarily ended with publication of materials of public discussion. This year the conference was devoted to the XXV-year anniversary of the Ukrainian Association of Religious Studies (URA), authoritative in Ukraine and far beyond its borders. The conference was organized by the Institute of Philosophy named after G.S. Skovoroda of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Association of Religious Studies, the Institute of Religious Freedom. People's deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, members of the government, representatives of the councils of churches and religious organizations were invited to the speeches and reports in the Grand Conference Hall of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Academician-secretary of the Department of History, Philosophy and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Valery Smoliy, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Director of the Institute of Philosophy named after G.S. Skovoroda Anatoly Yermolenko, Deputy Director, Head of the Department of Religious Studies of the Institute of Philosophy named after GS Skovoroda is Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Anatoly Kolodny.

Under this name, on November 19-20, 1998, an international scientific and practical conference devoted to the 50th anniversary of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights took place in Kyiv. The organizers of the conference are the International Academy of Religious Freedom, the International Commission on the Freedom of Conscience, the Ukrainian Association of Religious Studies, the State Committee of Ukraine for Religious Affairs, the Department of Religious Studies at the Institute of Philosophy named after. G.S. Skovoroda, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Under this name, on November 20-21, the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference took place in Poltava, which became one of the many events devoted to the 2000th anniversary of the Nativity of Christ. Its organizers were Poltava Regional State Administration, Department of Religious Studies at the Institute of Philosophy named after G. Skovoroda, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Poltava State Pedagogical Institute. VG Korolenko. The conference was attended by scholars: religious scholars, historians, philosophers, ethnographers, cultural experts, teachers from Kyiv, and many regions of Ukraine.

The article is aimed to analyze the philosophy’s functions, which makes it possible to understand the importance of philosophy discipline in staff training for various spheres of life in society. The authors also show the role of cultural studies in the formation of a student’s personality, the importance historical and philosophical sciences for the development of research skills, the formation of their own worldview and methodological position in science and practice. The article considers well-known philosophers of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The authors describe contribution of such academicians as Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zh.M. Abdildin and the Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, writer Garifolla Esim. The article summarizes the materials relating to teaching, research, social and educational activities of Philosophy Department. They show desire of department to carry out its activities within the mission of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, the vision and direction of its development. The article summarizes some of the results of the activities of Philosophy Department, operating since the founding of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University

May 19-20, this year a scientific conference on religious missionary issues in Ukraine took place in Kyiv. Co-organizers of the conference were the International Academy of Religious Freedom, the State Committee of Ukraine for Religious Affairs, the Department of Religious Studies at the Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In addition to Ukrainian scholars, religious scholars from the United States, K. Dyurm and D. Little, already known in Ukraine, took part in her work.

The report is based on the first results of the study "The History of the Evangelical Christians-Baptists in Ukraine", carried out in 1994-1996 by the joint efforts of the Department of Religious Studies at the Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Odessa Theological Seminary of Evangelical Christian Baptists. A large-scale description and research of archival sources on the history of evangelical movements in our country gave the first experience of fruitful cooperation between secular and church researchers.

The article is devoted to the 110 anniversary of the birth of the Belarusian scientist, the founder of the section of chemical science – Chemistry of solids, the organizer and the first director of Institute of the General and Inorganic Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, academician of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus – Mikhail Mikhaylovich Pavlyuchenko. In the article, the career devoted to search of the implication and chemical mechanism of the processes proceeding with participation of solids is described. Identification of the defining stages (limiting stages) and regularities of thermal dissociation reactions and synthesis of different classes and various structure of substances, as well as the definition of ways to operate these processes are described in this paper. His pedagogical and practical activities were purposeful, he looked for and found the young people interested in scientific research, excited them with his ideas, prepared 40 candidates and 3 Doctors of Chemistry. Together with the academician N. F. Ermolenko and the engineering structure of the institute, he prepared, proved the ways and possibilities of use and enrichment of sylvinites of the Starobinsky field, and repeatedly reported for the government and wide audience on importance of chemical industry development in Belarus. His course of life is a service to science and the Homeland.

The article is devoted to the formation and the development of the academic, creative and organization path of Svetlana N. Ikonnikova – Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, International Academy of Sciences of Higher School. The main stages of the biography and the results of her academic activity are considered in this article. It is shown that Svetlana N. Ikonnikova made the great contribution to the formation of such branch of Humanities as the Sociology of Youth. The separate stage is the creation of the Department of Theory and History, which played an important role in the development of the St. Petersburg School of Cultural Studies as well as the study of problems of theory and history of culture. The author shows the development of Svetlana N. Ikonnikova’s biographical method in Cultural Studies. This method played an important role in the study of personal contribution of creative personalities to the development of culture. The author analyzes the personal contribution of Svetlana N. Ikonnikova to the institutionalization of Cultural Studies as an academic and educational subject.
