Using Padlet as media is one of the ways to teach writing. Using Padlet as media help students make the students more excited in writing. The main purpose of the study is to examine the effectiveness of using Padlet as media on students’ writing score of the tenth grade IIS-1. Quantitative was selected as a research approach, whereas the research design used was Quasi Experimental by using posttest-only design. This research used two classes which became experimental and control class. The experimental class was taught writing by using Padlet as media, while the control class was taught without any media. To collect the data, post writing tests in experimental and control group were administered. Data were analyzed by using t-test. The findings indicated that score of the experimental class higher than the control class. Thus, it can be concluded that using Padlet as media in teaching writing is effective.

Using YouTube as media is one of the ways to teach speaking. Using YouTube as media help students to be better independent English speaker and makes the students easier in learning English. The main purpose of the study is to examine the effectiveness of using YouTube as media on students’ speaking score of the eleventh grade IIS-2. Quantitative was selected as a research approach, whereas the research design used was Quasi Experimental by using posttest-only design. This research used two classes which became experimental and control group. The experimental group was taught speaking using YouTube as media, while the control group was taught using picture as media. To collect the data, post speaking tests in experimental and control group were administered. Data were analyzed by using t-test. The findings indicated that score of the experimental group higher than the control group. Thus, it can be concluded that using YouTube as media in teaching speaking is effective.

The aim of the research was to analyze whether Whatshapp Messenger (WA) was effective to be used in teaching speaking descriptive at the tenth grade of MAN 4 Kediri. This research was quantitative research approach, whereas the research design used was posttest-only control-design. This research used two classes which became experimental group (MIA 3) and control group (MIA 4). In experimental group was taught by using Whatshapp Messenger, whereas control group was taught without Whatshapp Messenger. The instruments used in the research was written test. The procedure lasted 3 meetings and 1 meeting to do test. The result of t-test showed that: the mean score of experimental group (M = 81.15) was higher than control group (M = 70.29), and independent-samples t-test which values of the sig. 2-tailed was 0% or 0.000 and 0.000 < 0,05. Thus, it could be concluded that Whatshapp Messenger was effective in teaching and learning of English speaking descriptive text. This result suggests that the speaking aspects which the students significantly outperformed were (1) Pronunciation  (2) Vocabulary (3) Grammatical (4) Fluency (5) Comprehension and (6) Expression.

This study was focused on the investigation of The Effect of Using Posterson Students’ Achievement in Writing Hortatory Exposition Text. This study aimsat findings whether using posters as the media affect the students’ writingachievement or not. This study used an experimental research design with twovariables, namely using posters as independent variable and students’achievement in writing hortatory exposition text as dependent variable. Thepopulation of this study was the 2014/2015 second year students (grade XI) ofSMA Budi Agung Medan and 60 students were taken as the sample. The samplewas divided into two groups, experimental group and control group. Theexperimental group was taught by using posters while the control group wastaught without using posters. The instrument used in this study was a written test.The data were taken by administering the pre-test and post-test to both control andexperimental groups. These data were analyzed by using t-test. The result ofcomputing the t-test obviously showed that t-observed is higher than t-table (3.12> 1.67) with the degree of freedom 58 (df = N-2) at the level significance 0.05 onetail test. It showed that the using of posters affects the students’ achievement inwriting hortatory exposition text.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui secara mendalam media wayang purwa punakawan Semar, Gareng, Petruk, dan Bagong terhadap peningkatan apresiasi dan kreativitas pelajaran Seni Budaya dan Keterampilan peserta didik di SD Negeri Timuran Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimen semu. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik observasi, angket, dan tes akhir. Pengumpulan data, angket terdiri atas skala Guttman untuk pengumpulan data apresiasi dan skala Likert untuk pengumpulan data kreativitas. Teknik analisi data menggunakan Paired-sampels t-test dengan taraf signifikansi 0,05%. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa adanya perbedaan secara signifikan antara kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol. Untuk nilai t hitung pada kelompok eksperimen memiliki nilai 9,282 >2,086 dan untuk kelompok kontrol 3,901 > 2,093 terhadap peningkatan apresiasi siswa. Sedangkan nilai t hitung pada kelompok eksperimen memiliki nilai 12,021 >2,086 dan kelompok kontrol 4,945 > 2,093 untuk peningkatan kreativitas siswa. Berdasarkan data tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima, yang berarti terdapat peningkatan apresiasi dan kreativitas dengan media wayang purwa punakawan Semar, Gareng, Petruk, dan Bagong pada siswa di SD Negeri Timuran YogyakartaKata kunci: karakteristik wayang purwa punakawan Semar, Gareng, Petruk, dan Bagong, implementasi, apresiasi, kreativitas. IMPROVING APPRECIATION AND CREATIVITY OF STUDENTS IN SD NEGERI TIMURAN YOGYAKARTA IN LEARNING CULTURAL ARTS AND SKILLS (FINE ARTS) USING PUNAKAWAN PUPPETS MEDIAAbstractThis research aims to know in depth of media punakawans Semar, Gareng, Petruk and Bagong puppets to improve appreciation and creativity of learners cultural arts dan skills (Fine Arts) in SD Negeri Timuran Yogyakarta. This study uses a quantitative approach with quasi experimental design. The data collection techniques were observation, inquiry, and final tests. In collecting the data, the questionnaire consists of Guttman scale for the measurement of appreciation and Likert scale for measuring creativity. Data analysis techniques-the samples using paired t-test with a significance level of 0.05%. The results showed that there were significant differences between the experimental and control groups. The value of t in the experimental group had a value of 9.282>2.086 and 3.901> 2.093 for the control group improving appreciation students, and the value of  t in the experimental group had a value of 12.021> 2.086 and 4.945> 2.093 for the control group improving creativity students. It can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha accepted. The aim of this research was to know whether or not there was a significant effect of using Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy on the tenth grade students at MA Unggulan Nuris Jember. The research design used was quasi experimental research specifically post test only non equivalent group design . The respondent of the research was chosen by using cluster random sampling by a lottery . The students of X IPA A as the experimental group and X PK B as the control group. The data was collected by interview, documentation and administering reading comprehension test. Then the data collected were analyzed by using independentt sample T-test . It was known that the mean score of the experimental group was 78.80 and the mean score of the control group was 73.73. In the output of the t-test column, it was shown that the significant value was 0.03. It was lower than 0.05. It means that the mean scores of the two classes (experimental and control groups) were different. Therefore, there was a difference between the experimental class and the control class. In conclusion, the use of Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy was a significantly affected on the tenthgrade students’ reading comprehension achievement tat MA Unggulan Nuris Jember.   Keywords: reading comprehension achivement, DRTA strategy

The objective of this study is to measure whether there is or not significant effect of teaching reading by utilizing Hot Potatoes software toward students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. The variables used were the teaching treatment of Hot Potatoes Software as the independent variable and the students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text as dependent variable. Then, the research designed was Quasi-experimental design and the presentation of data used was quantitative. The data were obtained from the eleventh grade, of which 28 students were taken as sample. The students are divided into two groups; experiment group consisted of 12 students and control group consists of 16 students. To get the data, the pre-test and post-test were applied and then analyzed using t-test formula. The researcher had concluded that there is Significant effect of Hot Potatoes Software toward the students’ reading comprehension achievement. The result showed that mean of students’ post-test was increased. It is proved by the t-test (8.54) which is higher than t-table (2.05) at level of significance 5%. It means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and it proved that Hot Potatoes Software had significant effect toward students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text

The aim of this study is to discover the effect of applying SQ3R method inreading comprehension. Experimental research design is used as the research method.This research took place at SMA Nasrani 2Medan. There were 2 classes chosen as thesample with 30 students in each class. The classes were divided into two groups namelyexperimental and control group. The experimental group was taught by using SQ3Rmethod and the control group was taught by using conventional method. The instrumentused to collect the data was a set of multiple choice tests, which divided as pre test andpost test. The result of the research was analyzed by using t-test formula. The resultshowed that t-test was higher than t-table (4,23>2,00) at the level of significant 0,05with degree of freedom (df) 58. It means that hypothesis alternative (Ha) is acceptedwhich shows that SQ3R method significantly improves the student’s readingcomprehension.

The problem of this study is “Does Concept Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) enhance students’ reading achievement?” The design of this study was quasi-experimental. The sample of this study was taken from the population by using purposive sampling. The experimental group consisted of 39 students while the control group consisted of 35 students. The data were collected by using two instruments; test and questionnaire. The test was given twice to each group in order to see whether or not there was significance difference of pretest and posttest either in experimental or control group and whether or not there was significance difference of experimental and control group in terms of their posttest score. To prove the hypothesis, the data from pretest and posttest of experimental and control group were analyzed by applying paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The calculation was run by using SPSS computer program. The result of the study shows there was significance difference of students’ reading achievement between experimental and control group. Besides, the use of CORI as reading strategies was proved as effective reading strategies to enhance students’ reading achievement. This research is entitled “Using graphic organizer strategy in teaching writing on narrative paragraph (experimental research). Writing is a very important subject that should be learned by English learners. The students should be able to express their ideas and opinion either in the form of a sentence or paragraph. However, the researcher found that many students at the Second Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Tanah Luas could not express their ideas and develop into the paragraph. Hence, the appropriate strategy of teaching and learning is very important to help students master writing skills. This research aims to know the effect of achievement between the students who are taught writing by using graphic organizers from those taught writing in the narrative by using traditional methods. This research was experimental research and used a quasi-experimental design. The samples chosen in this research were the whole students of class VIII2 and VIII4 of SMPN 1 Tanah Luas. Class VIII2 consisted of 25 students was chosen as experimental group and class VIII4 consisted of 24 students was chosen as control group. This research was conducted in three phrases; there were pre-test, treatments and post-test. The data collection technique used in this research was test. The tests were pre-test and post-test. The researcher gave pre-test before giving treatment and post-test after giving treatment. The treatment was conducted in three meetings. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The research result and the hypothesis authentication found by using t-test formula in significant level 5% or α = 0.05 were obtained that ttest > ttable. The ttest found in this research was 3.91. Meanwhile, ttable was gotten from the list of distribution value with degree of freedom = 47, because the data not in the table, the researcher used interpolation approach and obtained = 1.67. So >  = 3.91 > 1.67. It meant that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. So, graphic organizer strategy significantly affects the students’ ability in mastering writing.   Kata Kunci: graphic organizer strategy, teaching and learning, writing narrative paragraph

Origami is a kind of method for teaching language through dialogues whichstresses on the students’ habit formation by repetition, memorizing grammatical structures through substitutions, singular-plural and tense transformations etc, using the target language and the culture where the language is spoken. The objective of this research was to find out the effect of Origami in teaching writing procedure text. Method design this research was a true-experimental method. The population of this research was the second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah Mataram in Academic year 2016/2017. This study the writer took all population as the samples that consisted of 38 students. Because the population less than 100, they divided into two classes, namely experimental class 21 and control class 17. The writer collected the data using the testing method pre and post-test. According to Hughes rubric and t-test formula theory. The result of this research showed that the mean score of experimental group 9.5 and the mean score of control group 2.9. Based on t-test it showed that t- value 11.9 and after consulting to t-table, the t-value was higher than t- table. To conclude origami teaching and learning is more effective to improve students’ writing procedure text, this can be seen from the results of test score, it shows that the experimental class which was given treatment using origami teaching and learning got a higher score than control class without taught by used origami teaching and learning method. Besides the origami could improve the students’ motivation, the origami could attract the students’ attention, the origami help the students to memorize the vocabulary and the origami make the teaching and learning activities interesting. Presentation in which the writer presented the materials by using origami as media the students clearly and easily to understand. The writer concluded that Origami can warn up the student that was done to make students interested in learning writing procedure text and has a positive effect in teaching writing procedure text.
