Organic farming is not the only potential solutions to overcome the problems of conventional farming systems by offering positive impacts on health and environment but also to fulfill the growing demand for healthier food. However, the growing demand for organic food was not responded simultaneously by an increase in the supply of organic food. This means that there is opportunity to increase participation of farmers to adopt organic rice farming systems. This study aims to analyze the adoption rate and factors affecting farmer adoption of organic rice farming system. This study used primary data of 32 organic and conventional farmers in Pringkasap Village Subang Regency. The respondents were chosen using census method for organic farmers and purposive sampling for conventional farmers.The data was analyzed used descriptive statistics and logistic regression. The results showed that the number of farmers adopted organic rice only 6.25% amongst the 265 rice farmers in Pringkasap Village. The results also showed that education, farmed land, farmer’s perception of the relative advantage of organic farming and number of family members are factors that significantly affect the adoption of organic rice farming in Pringkasap Village.

This study analysed the factors affecting the adoption of organic rice production in Chachoengsao Province, Thailand. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaire completed by 108 farmers: (58 organic rice farmers and 50 non-organic rice farmers) in Chachoengsao Province, Thailand. A t-test was employed to investigate the differences in the demographics of organic and non-organic rice farmers, and percentage mean, and standard deviation was used to describe farmers’ attitudes. Logistic regression was employed to investigate factors influencing organic rice adoption, educational level, and farm size were significantly different between the organic and non-organic rice farmers. Education (positive), farming experience (positive), age of household head (negative) and farm size (negative) had highly significant (p ≤ 0.01) influences on organic farming adoption. The farmers’ attitude toward environmental concern was the most important reason for adopting organic rice farming. This research identified the factors affecting the adoption of organic rice farming; this information can be used to encourage farmers to practice organic rice farming in the targeted organic rice area in Thailand. In addition, the farmers’ attitudes toward organic farming systems could be used to help support farmers practicing organic rice farming. The aims of this research are to find out the ammount of profit, profitability, R/C Ratio, and analyzing the ammount of production during 5 years of organic rice farming in the Al-Barokah community, Susukan District, Semarang Regency. This study was conducted on December 2016 – January 2017 in Ketapang Village, Susukan, Semarang. The study method used to collect the data was survey method. The data collected of study was the primary data and the secondary data. The location in this research is selected by several considerations, such as Al-Barokah association is one of farming trade association that uses organic farming system. The populations retrieval used purposive method, then determine the number of samples used the slovin formula. The respondent in this research are 81  farmers  of organic rice. The data analyzed of study was the farming income, R/C Ratio, profitability and trand analysis. Based on the result of income analysis, R/C Ratio and profitability has done that organic rice farming is very feasible and very profitable.Keywords: profitability analysis, farming, organic rice.

This research aimed to evaluate the performance of organic rice farming systems, focusing on: (1) identifying the range of application of organic farming on rice farming, (2) analyzing the productivity and income from applying organic  farming, and (3)  analyzing  the technical   efficiency of  applying  organic  farming  and identifying factors that influence it.<br />The study was conducted in Malang Regency with take sample Sumber Ngepoh village, Lawang, Malang. This village is purposively taken because this is only a village in East Java which has obtained a certificate as a producer of organic rice from Organic Certification Agency. Furthermore, farmers did not interested application of organic farming. The sample of farmers 120  respondents selected by using non-proportionate stratified random sampling among those applying organic rice farming. The data are anal<br />The results at the study stage show that there was diversity between implementing organic and agricultural organic farming system. This diversity reached only 8,33 percent application of organic rice farming of the total land area, while the rest was still in the transitional stage of applying organic system. The application of organic rice farming must independently be able to increase production and income of the farmer. <br />Judging from the level of technical efficiency, the application of organic rice farming is generally quite high, above the value of TE (technical efficiency) 0.8, while applying an independent organic farming has higher technical efficiency than others. <p>The high demand for organic rice on the market indicates that the organic rice business has good potential and opportunities to be developed, so as to encourage organic agriculture to become competitive and sustainable. This is an opportunity for farmers, especially farmers who are under CV. Sirtanio Organic Indonesia is expected to provide high value added to its member farmers, so as to boost the economy of farmers towards prosperity. The purpose of this study are: (1) Assessing the simple feasibility of organic rice farming based on Internal Control System (ICS) organic farming in the company is seen from the financial aspect; (2) Describe and analyze the characteristics of organic rice products in supply chains based on ICS in organic farming; and (3) Formulate supply chain strategies for organic rice based ICS agricultural products. The analytical method used is business feasibility analysis which is then identified internal and external factors which are then accumulated using SWOT and formulated several strategies using QSPM. The conclusion of the research results are: (1) The advantage is quite good (&gt;1), the analysis of the R/C ratio calculation for organic rice farming for farmers and companies, namely farmers (2.25) and CV Sirtanio (1.56); (2) Organic certification is an internal force with the opportunity to offer export market share that is quite open, so that it is obtained a ICS -based supply chain development strategy, namely: (a) Development of collaboration with online-shop (score 5,895); (b) Strengthening ICS-based supply chain functions through the implementation of internal audits conducted by the ICS team (score 5,671); and (c) Maintained the organic farming system based on the agreed ICS according to the rules of SNI 6729: 2016 (score 5,541).</p>

Background, excessive exploitation of paddy land in the long term without the addition of organic matter have resulted in soil become damaged. To meet the needs of food (rice) healthy and improve the functioning of the land, then there is no best alternative except development of organic farming systems. To be able to implement a system of organic farming, it is necessary to aplication of seed quality assurance. IbPUD activities carried out ini the village Ketapang, local village government has formed group of paddy organic farmers, but due to constraints in the available of seed rice organic . The purpose, carry out assistance to Farmers and Farmers Group in the establishment of the sources of seed organic rice and the acquisition of organic certification. The method, is Focus Group Discussion which emphasizes dialogue interpersosnal and mentoring. The program is implementing educational methods that involve the active participation of the participants from the three (3) groups of paddy organic farmers partners in Ketapang. The training was held in the form of : (1) seed rice breading management trainin, (2) training of organic rice management with the use of local waste and can be as alternative of organic fertilizers, and (3) training buines management.Results, an increasing number of farmers' groups who implement sources of seed organic rice of 4 (four) varietas (Mentik Susu, Mentik Wangi, Hitam Arang and Merah Anoman) to 3 farmer groups (15Ha). In conclusion, most members of the Farmers Group Al-Barokah have felt: (a) the benefit of the treatment of organic in terms of soil quality and the products of organic rice and its by-products, (b) an increase in value-added organic products and farmers' income, (c) the importance of maintaining paddy according to its function, (d) have become independent farmers in organic rice cultivation.<br />Keywords: Organic farming systems, Organic certification, Interpersonal dialogue

The purposes of this research were to determine the performance of organic and anorganic farming systems in wetland rice cultivation, rice farmers’ perception, the related factors to farmers' perception, the differences in rice farmers’ perceptions, and the constraints faced in that applications in Pajaresuk and Pujodadi Village. The data collection was conducted in November - December 2017. The research method used was census. The number of organic and anorganic rice farmers sampled were 35 farmers. The data was analyzed by descriptive analysis, Spearman rank correlation and the Mann-Whitney test. The results of this research show that the performance of organic and anorganic rice farming were land processing, seeding, planting, pest and disease controlling, fertilizating, irrigating, and harvesting. The differences performance of organic and anorganic rice farming were in seeding, pests and diseases controlling, and fertilizing. The rice farmers' perception to organic farming systems was quite good. The related factors to farmers' perception were social interaction, community support, and farmers' interests. There were no significant differences between organic farmers’ perceptions and the anorganic farmers’ perceptions. The constraint faced in the application of organic farming system was the difficulty of maintenance in cultivation, while in the application of anorganic farming systemwas the high costs, but the selling price was relatively low. Key words: anorganic rice, organic rice, perception

<p>In 1960s, Indonesia experienced serious rice insufficiency and was one of the largest rice importing countries. The government was encouraged to achieve rice self-sufficiency, i.e. implementing the green revolution (GR) technology through promoting modern agricultural inputs adoption. GR had helped Indonesia to achieve rice self- sufficiency in 1984. However, such technology deals with some problems, e.g. environmental destruction and farmers’ dependence on agrochemical industry.  Many consider organic farming system is the solution to address this issue as its practice offers the best way toward sustainable food production and resources use. Demand for organic rice is expected to increase in the future along with the population and income growth. However, prospect of organic rice farming is still uncertain as its adoption is very low. The main challenge is farmers’ unease on yield reduction. Other crucial problems are lack of technical know-how and government supports as well as increase in costs of land conversion and chemical contaminations from conventional farming. It is necessary to conduct more in-depth studies on the factors influencing farmers’ willingness to adopt organic farming. It will be useful for the government to design appropriate strategies and policies to accelerate organic rice farming adoption.</p><p> </p><p>Abstrak</p><p>Pada 1960-an, Indonesia mengalami kekurangan beras dan termasuk salah satu pengimpor beras terbesar di dunia. Pemerintah saat itu memprioritaskan pemenuhan beras dengan target swasembada dengan berbagai upaya, seperti penerapan teknologi revolusi hijau (RH) melalui penggunaan input pertanian modern. RH terbukti membuat Indonesia mencapai swasembada beras pada tahun 1984. Namun, teknologi tersebut juga telah menyebabkan dampak negatif, terutama kerusakan lingkungan dan petani sangat bergantung pada industri agro- kimia. Beberapa kalangan menganggap sistem pertanian organik adalah solusi untuk mengatasi masalah ini. Pertanian organik menawarkan cara terbaik untuk produksi pangan dan penggunaan sumber daya secara berkelanjutan dan ramah lingkungan. Permintaan beras organik diperkirakan akan meningkat di masa mendatang seiring dengan pertumbuhan penduduk dan pendapatan. Adopsi pertanian organik masih sangat lambat. Tantangan utama pertanian padi organik adalah kekhawatiran anjloknya hasil panen ketika melakukan konversi. Permasalahan  lainnya  adalah  kurangnya  pengetahuan  teknis  dan  dukungan  pemerintah,  mahalnya  biaya konversi dan kontaminasi bahan kimia dari pertanian konvensional. Diperlukan penelitian yang lebih mendalam tentang faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi petani untuk mengadopsi pertanian organik. Dengan demikian pemerintah dapat merancang strategi dan kebijakan yang tepat untuk mempercepat adopsi pertanian padi organik.</p>

Organic rice farming aims to achieve sustainable agriculture. It considers social, economic and environmental aspects. However, in practice, farmers experience various technical and economic constraints upon converting non-organic agriculture practice to organic rice farming. The alternative method is to implement semi-organic farming as a transitional period. The purpose of this study is to review technical / production and economic aspects of non-organic, semi-organic, and organic farming. It is conducted to determine whether semi-organic farming could be utilized as a transition period to organic rice farming. The study used a survey method on 75 farmers working in non-organic, semi organic, and organic farm in Priangan Timur, West Java Province, Indonesia. Article’s result exhibited that, in terms of technical cultivation / production, the majority of semi-organic farmers had carried out the stages of organic cultivation. It generated higher productivity compared to non-organic farming. However, productivity remained below organic farming. In terms of economical aspect, income per hectare and R / C value are higher than non-organic farming. However, it is below organic farming. Semi-organic farming could be used as a transition to organic farming.

Organic farming has become one of risky farming systems, because its yield could be lower than anorganic farming. Moreover, low yield can lead to a suffer in financial loss on organic farming. This might be caused by the changing in input usage when farmers changed their farming system from anorganic to organic farming. The research was aimed to determine : 1) income’s risk of organic farming by different cropping seasons. 2)income’s risk of organic farming based on its harvested area. The research was designed as descriptive and analytical research. The sampling farmers were selected by using proportioned stratified random sampling, Structural interview and documentational techniques were employed to gain informations about income’s risk in organic farming. Coefficient Variances was employed as primary analytical tool in this research. The result showed that : (1) risk in organic farming can be higher as long as it was applied by farmers. This result was concluded based on Coefficient Variance in farmer’s group both in Mandiri I which has 45,54% and Mandiri IB which has 41,34%. (2) according to Coeffient Variance Analysis, risk in organic farming can be lower if farmers have few harversted area. The Coeffient Variance for each categories in harvested area were : narrow harvested area (47,53%); medium harvested area (34,61%) and large harvested area (24,45%).   Keywords: Organic Rice, Income, Risk
