<p>This research was aimed at studying the effect of plant propagation material and organic fertilizer on Anredera cordifolia [Ten.] Steenis growth. The experiment was conducted at the Sawah Baru Experimental Field, IPB from March to June 2010. This study was laid out in a factorial randomized block design consisting of two factors. The first factor was the plant material i.e. two types of planting materials, root rhizome and stem cuttings with leaves. The second factor was the type of organic fertilizer i.e. without fertilizer as the control, combination of soil and organic fertilizer 1:1 (v/v), i.e. compost, cow manure, and chicken manure. The result showed that stem cutting gave higher plant height, leaf number and width and number of branches. Treatment of planting medium significantly affected plant height, number and width of leaf, fresh and dry weight of roots, stems and total weight of fresh leaf. Cow manure gave the best effect. Interaction of plant propagation material and organic fertilizer only significantly affected plant height at 2 Week After Planting (WAP) and root dry weight. Stem cuttings is a better plant propagation material on all types of organic fertilizer than rhizome.</p><p><br />Key words:organic fertilizer type, propagation materials, Anredera cordifolia</p>

The research aims to study the change of morphology root characters of eight hybrid oil palms under iron toxicity (Fe). Field experiment done in arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) two factors and three blocks as replications. The first factor was Fe concentration. It consists of two levels which are concentration 0µ.g-1 and concentration 600 µg.g-1 Fe. The second factor is the hybrid of oil palms which consists of eight hybrid oil palms as Yangambi, Avros, Langkat, PPKS 239, Simalungun, PPKS 718, PPKS 540 and Dumpy. Fe was applied by pouring FeSO4 solvent for 600 µg.g-1 500 ml.-1plant.-1day-1 on two months of plants after transplanting in the main nursery. Data were collected on root morphology and plant dry weight The data were analysis of variance (ANOVA) at 5% significanly, followed by Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT). The relationships by among variables were determined by correlation analysis. The results showed that Fe concentration 600 µg.g-1 inhibits relatively root growth rate, narrows surface area, reduces the diameter, and shrinks root volume of all hybrid oil palms tested. The slowing relatively root growth rate, narrowing of root surface area and root diameter also root volume shrinkage due to Fe stress. It was also shown that the dry weight of plants was inhibit by existing of Fe toxicity.

Abstract Bougainvillea spectabilis is an ornamental plant grown in both temperate and tropical zones. They are primarily propagated by stem cuttings; however, difficulty in growth at early stages occurs routinely, causing barrier for its mass propagation. This study was conducted to study the effects of integrating compost with Trichoderma longibrachiatum (NGJ167), in improving the early growth of Bougainvillea spectabilis. Trichoderma longibrachiatum (NGJ167) used for this purpose was obtained from the Bioscience Center, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan. One hundred and twenty (120) pots were filled with 5 kg top soil each from an alfisol. Treatments included: Top soil as Control (C), Top soil inoculated with T. longibrachiatum (T), Top soil + compost at 5, 10 and 15 t ha-1 as C1, C2, C3 respectively, Top soil inoculated with T. longibrachiatum + compost at 5, 10 and 15 t ha-1 as C1T, C2T, C3T respectively. The eight treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) and replicated three times. Results indicated that integrated use of compost with Trichoderma significantly (p < 0.05) had higher growth values than the control. Higher plant height, stem diameter, number of branches and number of leaves, were recorded with the use of compost at 10 t ha-1 compared to control. Compost with Trichoderma gave higher shoot dry weight compared to treatments of compost alone. In conclusion, use of compost alone or inoculated with Trichoderma had significant effect on early growth and development of Bougainvillea spectabilis.

We assessed adventitious root formation on stem cuttings of mountain fly honeysuckle [Lonicera villosa (Michx.) Schult.] in separate experiments using overhead mist and subirrigation systems. The concentration of applied potassium salt of indole-3-butyric acid (K-IBA) and the proportions of coarse perlite and milled peatmoss in the propagation medium were varied within both systems. Across treatments, 98% of cuttings in the overhead mist system and 85% of cuttings in the subirrigation system produced roots. In the overhead mist system, root volume, root dry weight, and number of root tips were greatest among cuttings treated with 4000 to 12,000 mg·L−1 K-IBA and stuck into 100% perlite. In the subirrigation system, root dry weight was not significantly affected by K-IBA concentration, but the greatest root volume and number of root tips were produced by cuttings treated with 8000 or 12,000 mg·L−1 K-IBA and stuck into 100% perlite. Despite the natural affinity of mountain fly honeysuckle for moist, organic soils, all of the 18 rooted cuttings we planted in a landscape trial survived and grew appreciably with minimal care over 2 years in a mineral field soil. We conclude that cuttings of mountain fly honeysuckle can be propagated readily by overhead mist or subirrigation, that root system quality is improved substantially by increasing K-IBA concentration and using coarse perlite without peatmoss, and that mountain fly honeysuckle can be grown in typical horticultural landscapes.

The limitation of potential land leads agricultural development expansion to the peat soil area. Constrain of the peatland development is the low nutrient content that is required by plant. Phosphate is one of major growth and production limiting nutrient because of the solublelize of the organic acids and immobility The research was conducted from October 2013 – March 2014 at the farmer main nursery in Riau province to test the effect of amelioration and phosphate solubilizing microbe inoculation on P availability on palm oil seedling growth and production at peatland, used Randomized Block Design with 30 treatments and 3 replications. The parameters observed were plant height, leaf number, leaf width, leaf length, stem diameters, nutrient contents, also fresh and dry weight after 5 months at the main nursery. The result showed that palm oil empty fruit bunch compost as ameliorant increased P nutrient avaibility, P uptake, fresh and dry weight, whereas phosphate solubilizing microbe was unsignificant.

Abstract. This research aims to determine the effect of broiler manure doses and BiotamaxTM biofertilizers on growth and yield of Chinese cabbage in the Selat Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali from November - December 2018. The randomized block design (RBD) factorial, consisting of two factors was the experimental design used in this research. The first factor is the dose of broiler manure (A), composed of 3 levels, namely control (A0), a dose of 15 tons.ha-1 (A1), and 30 tons.ha-1 (A2). The second factor is the application frequency of biological fertilizers with four levels, namely control (B0) which was administered concurrently for seven days before planting at a dose of 0.09 g.plots-1. B1 with an administrative frequency of 7 and 14 days before and after planting (HST), respectively, with a dose of 0.045 g.plots-1. (B2) with a 3times administrative frequency of 7, 14, and 28 days before, after birth and after each dose of 0.03 g.plots-1 (B3). The results of the study, the frequency of giving BiotaMaxTM biological fertilizer at the same time, provided the heaviest oven-dry weight per crop, which was 9.39 g. The treatment of broiler chicken manure dose of 30 tons.ha-1 (A2), resulted in the best oven-dry weight canopy per plant at 9.26 g. The relationship between the dose of broiler chicken manure with canopy oven-dry weight per plant showed a linear relationship, namely y = 0.0608x + 7.2483 (R2 = 32.53). The best economic weight per hectare is obtained in the provision of 30 tons.ha-1 (A2) broiler manure, weighing 30.10 tons.ha-1. The relationship between the dose of broiler manure and economic weight per hectare shows a linear relationship, y = 0.3247x + 21.699 R² = 59.88%. The frequency of giving BiotaMaxTM biofertilizers at the same time is 7 days before planting at a dose of 0.09 g.plots-1 (B1) gave the heaviest economic weight per hectare, at 28.21 tons.ha-1. The combination of broiler chicken manure dose and the frequency of BiotaMaxTM biofertilizer gave no significant effect (p≥0.05) on the growth and yield of Chinese cabbage. Keywords: broiler manure, biofertilizer frequency, petsaiAbstrak. There is limited information on optimal substrate EC level for begonia species (noncultivated hybrids). The objective of this study was to evaluate the response of six species to different substrate EC in a greenhouse. Begonia albopicta, B. cucullata var. cucullata, B. echinosepala var. elongatifolia, B. holtonis, B. fuchsioides (red) and B. fuchsioides (pink) plants were propagated by stem cuttings, and transplanted into plastic pots using a soilless mix. Five concentrations (20, 80, 200, 400, and 600 mg·L-1 N) of 17–5–17 fertilizer were applied as irrigation water to derive the five substrate EC levels. This experiment was a factorial randomized complete-block design. Substrate EC was measured weekly using the PourThru method and averaged for each treatment of each species. Inflorescence number, the longest stem length, SPAD readings, leaf area, and dry weight of each plant were measured as growth parameters. There were significant responses to substrate EC level and species on begonia growth parameters. The highest growth parameters of B. albopicta and B. cucullata were obtained at EC 5.7 and 6.6 mS·cm-1, respectively. The maximum growth of B. echinosepala and B. holtonis was observed at 2.6 and 3.0 mS·cm-1, respectively. B. fuchsioides, grown at 1.2 mS·cm-1, had the best growth parameter values. As EC level increased, SPAD value for B. fuchsioides (pink) and B. holtonis also increased. The highest SPAD reading was observed at EC 3.7 mS·cm-1 for B. albopicta, EC 6.6 mS·cm-1 for B. cucullata, EC 2.6 mS·cm-1 for B. echinosepala, and EC 4.1 mS·cm-1 for B. fuchsioides (red). Plant mortality of several begonia species was observed when grown at EC value above 6.4 or below 4.4 mS·cm-1.
