The Internet represents a transformative force of paradigms, making everyday situations such as how to watch movies and interact with society have a rapid transformation in recent years, driven by the distribution platforms of online video over the Internet, which consist of cross-platform distributed systems forming the so-called over the top – OTT. Sending video content on the Internet requires a variety of infrastructure devices associated with the Internet Service Provider – ISP, which must provide sufficient bandwidth Internet access to ensure quality of service. The growth in broadband Internet use raises concerns for ISPs due to the high bandwidth demands generated by OTT applications. The characterization of users’ behavior for OTT services can contribute to a better understanding of the interaction of users of these services with ISP, which will help small ISPs manage the capacity of their resources by providing a better quality of the service provided and possibilities for offering new services. This work aims to evaluate, using a case study, the impacts of OTT services, specifically Netflix, Facebook and Google, on a small broadband Internet access provider. In the research, real data were monitored and collected from all clients of an ISP using the PRTG, Winbox, Wireshark, and legacy applications tools on edge routers. With the result of the case study one can have a reference for the dimensioning of internet backbone access links with the use of CDN in the ISP environment, because users’ traffic in access to OTT services in small ISP affects on average 52% of the tráfeg the total ISP. Keywords: OTT, CDN, internet, internet provider.

As a basic standard of life, internet connects millions of computers in a global network. People use, participate, or access the internet with the help of internet service providers (ISPs). To have better quality of connection, customers are prone to change their ISPs. In the competitive environment, ISPs endeavor to prevent losing their customers which are referred as churn. Thus, churn management takes an important place for ISPs. To investigate customer loyalty status, behavior, and information of the churn possibility in Turkey, a questionnaire is implemented. By using a real data obtained from a survey, promising and applicable results are obtained to predict the churn behavior of ISP customers in Turkey. As an extension of the study, the questionnaire will be applied for a larger population to find accurate results about churn situations. This study will help ISP companies to determine the required advertising campaigns for the customers.

This chapter describes the far-reaching effects of broadband Internet access on the motion picture industry. It first provides a summary of the effects on the industry’s business model: the Internet (particularly when combined with broadband connections) provides a new window for the movie studios to utilize in releasing their product. It next examines the ways that legal, political, and cultural environments are already influencing the industry’s search for a new business model to replace the old. Finally, we draw on lessons from the music industry to predict how the industry will ultimately incorporate broadband technology into a new business model. The authors believe that the motion picture industry provides an excellent case study of broadband’s effects on a mature industry.

In this paper, co-evolution is used to examine the long-term evolution of business models in an industry. Two types of co-evolution are used: synchronous, whereby the entire population of business models is replaced with a new population at each generation, and asynchronous, whereby only one individual is replaced.

The main purpose of the study is to reveal the relations between the internet and social media usage and the basic motives behind the actions and engagements of political consumers departing from the thoughts and individual experiences of scholars. Therefore, the study first draws a framework of the political consumer, political consumerism, and the effects of political consumerism. Then it investigates the link between the internet and social media use and the aforementioned concepts. In other words, the purpose of the study is to analyze the extent to which internet and social media use and increase the likelihood of engaging in political consumerism through the method of a case study. As a method of sampling, quota sampling method was chosen. The in-depth interviews were performed in a semi-structured form to maintain the coherence and details. The results of this study and similar studies are thought to be beneficial for improving the quality of life for consumers, corporations, and governments related to agenda setting and policy making.

Besides the Internet search facility and e-mails, social networking is now one of the three best uses of the Internet. A tremendous number of volunteers every day write articles, share photos, videos and links at a scope and scale never imagined before. However, because social network data are huge and come from heterogeneous sources, the data are highly susceptible to inconsistency, redundancy, noise, and loss. For data scientists, preparing the data and getting it into a standard format is critical because the quality of data is going to directly affect the performance of mining algorithms that are going to be applied next. Low-quality data will certainly limit the analysis and lower the quality of mining results. To this end, the goal of this study is to provide an overview of the different phases involved in data preprocessing, with a focus on social network data. As a case study, we will show how we applied preprocessing to the data that we collected for the Malaysian Flight MH370 that disappeared in 2014.

This study aimed at determining the availability of the internet facility, access, and internet usage in general as well as in learning physics among high school students in Lampung, Indonesia. The study also assessed students’ internet self-efficacy and perception of the internet in learning physics. A number of 1883 students, which consists of 700 males and 1183 females, participated in this descriptive study. A questionnaire consisted of 30 items was implemented in this study. The results showed that most students have internet facilities and nearly all of them have internet access through mobile phones. The majority of students had used the internet for more than or equal to three years (78.1%). In using the internet, students have two main reasons, for academic purposes (90.3%) and for social media activities (89.5%). Majority of internet service used in physics was to solving homework (78.5%). The study also revealed that students’ internet self-efficacy and perception for learning physics were in “high” and “positive” category, respectively. These results imply that the students’ internet facilities, access, experience, and self-efficacy are categorized high. Therefore, the integration of internet in teaching physics at high school in Lampung is adequately potential.

Indonesia has a disparity in internet access caused by differences in regional factors, especially in geographically difficult areas to reach. The disparity in internet access is narrowed by the existence of programs through USO funds. However, the researchers found that the equalization program for internet access using USO funds had not been effective, especially in the education sector. This paper aims to provide an evaluation of USO-funded programs. This paper uses qualitative descriptive methods with review literature data collection techniques accompanied by qualitative critical analysis techniques. The important finding of this study is that the internet access equalization program has not been effective as evidenced by the ineffectiveness of this program in the education sector. Researchers suggest optimizing the internet access equalization program through USO funds to improve the quality of education.

Nowadays, smart devices have grown exponentially, so they have become a necessity rather than a luxury, therefore staying connected to the Internet has facilitated people to explore national and international news, make payments for services public, virtual shopping, scheduling medical appointments, among others. Now all this demand increases every day at excessive levels and adding the robust applications that are currently being developed and launched on the market. Regarding this, it is known that currently, the internet service providers of the municipality of Soledad Atlántico do not have the physical infrastructure to maintain the availability of the service. This is where the project design of the Wi-Fi-Offloading solution to extend the coverage and the transmission of data from the cellular network, through the wireless network in the Muvdi park of the Municipality of Soledad Atlántico, is carried out with the aim of providing a solution and alternative so that the internet connection service remains available without import the data network to which you have access. The research methodology used for the development of the project is descriptive. The research design is qualitative, transactional, and non-experimental. At this moment, it is in a descriptive stage, carrying out tests, and then moving on to the applied stage.
