In an attempt to curtail examination malpractice, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been generating different paper types with a different order of test items in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). However, the permutation of test items may compromise students’ performance unintentionally because constructive suggestions in theory and practice recommend that test items be sequenced in ascending order of difficulty. This study used data collected from a random sample of 1,226 SSIII students to ascertain whether the permutation of test items has any effect on the performance of students in two different subjects (Use of English and Mathematics). The study adopted the Equivalent Groups Quasi-Experimental Research Design with three independent groups. Findings emerged, amongst others, that there is a significant difference in the performance scores of prospective university students’ in use of English and Mathematics examintaions arranged in three different orders (ED, DE, R). There are no significant gender differences in the performance of students in Use of English and Mathematics based on test item permutation. However female students perform better than male students when test items are arranged in ascending order of difficulty while males perform better when test items are arranged in descending order of difficulty. It was concluded that the permutation of test items in UTME examination tends to affect the performance of students in Use of English and Mathematics. This finding has implications for the future conduct of UTME examinations and enrolment into higher education as the randomization of UTME test items changes the difficulty order of different paper types. It was recommended that other measures of curtailing examination malpractices that would not affect students’ academic performance should be adopted.

Technology-based media can increase students’ motivation more than equipping their teaching materials with traditional ones. This article aims to describe the difference between the dance performance of students taught by exploring local wisdom from YouTube and those who are taught by the conventional method. This quasi-experimental study describes whether local wisdom and technology via YouTube can effectively increase Indonesian students’ dance performance at the higher education level. A number of 205 students participated in this research. A dance performance test, two scoring rubrics, and a questionnaire were used. The result of statistical analysis shows that exploring the values of local wisdom from YouTube videos can give a significant effect on students’ dance performance with sig. = .000. In terms of gender, there is a significant difference between female and male students after being taught by exploring local wisdom from YouTube videos (sig. = .000). Moreover, females also achieve better than males in terms of creativity including fluency, flexibility, elaboration, and originality of their dance products. The results of the questionnaire reveal that students appreciate and feel helped by integrating local wisdom and YouTube videos in the choreography course and agree that the values of local wisdom direct their dance performance in terms of movement, attitude, costume, and creativity.

The principal objective of the research study is to examine the effectiveness of teaching the pronunciation of inflection in English words through the analytic-linguistic approach. The researcher followed a pre-experiment research design, especially one- group- pretest- posttest- design, which included a pretest measure followed by a treatment and a posttest for a single group after the treatment or intervention. A set of fifty multiple choice test items was administered to the sample of 21 bachelor first year education students studying major English at Makawanpur Multiple Campus, Hetauda, Nepal in the Academic Year 2019-2020. The researcher adopted the census method also known as a statistical enumeration method wherein each and every student in the population was selected for eliciting the primary data. The result showed there was a statistically significant difference between the pretest mean score (M=20.190, SD=14.169 and N=21) and the posttest mean score (M= 25.619, SD=14.844 and N=21) of the students. The statistics of (df) =20, p< .05, the observed t-value= 4.38 and the table t-value = 2.086 at 0.05 significance level of the test showed that teaching the pronunciation of inflection through the analytic-linguistic approach was effective among the students at this campus. This study contributes to the existing body of the pronunciation of English words by highlighting that the same spelling functioning as the inflection of the English words has different pronunciation. It is shown through presentations.

The “bring your own device” (BYOD) program is positioned as one of the fastest-emerging methods to solve accessibility problems in the flipped learning methodology. The objective of the study is to analyze the potential of a training plan through inverted learning using the BYOD program compared to inverted learning without BYOD. A quasi-experimental design was carried out on a sample of 118 Higher Education students. A questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection. The results show that the assessments of the study groups, both control and experimental, are at medium–high levels, which shows a significant incidence of the teaching and learning methodologies applied in both groups. There are only three dimensions in which a distance is observed between the groups’ assessments: motivation and autonomy, which were better valued by the experimental group, and class time, which was better valued by the control group. The study concludes that there are no great differences between the teaching methodologies applied in the groups that were subjected to experimentation, except in terms of motivation and autonomy, making these methodologies reliable for the development of these dimensions.

Abstract Background Epidemiological and behavioral studies have concentrated on female sex workers. There's a crucial ought to focus equivalent attention on the activities of male clients as has been directed towards female sex workers. In Ethiopia, where higher education students considered as the most at-risk population for human immune deficiency virus, the transmission of infection may occur within networks composed of female sexworkers, their clients and the other sexual partners of the latter. However, there is a huge gap in qualitative studieson the exploration of why higher education male students buy sex. Objective The purpose of this study was to explore why higher education male students buy sex. Methods A qualitative phenomenological approach was used. Semi-structured interviews wereconducted with 12 higher education male students who had a history of visiting female sex workers during their stay on campus.Inductive codingwas used to determine invariant constituents reduce constituents to sub-themes, and clustersub-themes into themes. Dependability and credibility were achieved through an audio recording, bracketing, and member checking. Results Through the use of thematic analysis two common themes and five sub-themes were identified from motives of male higher education students to buy sex. These themes are motives associated with desires including emotional and experiential; and motives associated with context including academic, time and money context, socio-environmental context and family, romantic partner and campus girl context. Conclusions In this study, Sexual need, sexual fantasies, experiential desire, Peer pressure, substance use, low academic result, availability of time and money, break up with a romantic partner and demanding nature of campus girls were the reasons reported by participants when they were asked about why they visited female sex worker. Therefore, addressing higher education male students’ motives related to their desire and context is vital.

The distance education model has become the most common educational model used around the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic that emerged in China at the end of 2019. In North Cyprus (NC), traditional face-to-face education had been resumed through online channels. The rapid shift to online channels has not only caused distress among students who do not have experience with using in online education systems, but also caused many problems to surface in terms of access to education. This study aims to explore the attitudes and views of higher education students in NC regarding the distance education implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic in the 2020–2021 educational year. In this quantitative study, the survey method was used. A random sampling approach was used for determining the study group, which was formed of 470 volunteer higher education students. According to the analysis of the data collected from the students, it was determined that they received an average score of x̅=82.52±19.50 points from the overall Attitudes Regarding the Use of Distance Education Environments During the Pandemic (ASRUDEEDP) scale, x̅=23.03±7.21 from the competence and education sub-dimension, x̅=26.36±5.81 from the practicality sub-dimension, x̅=18.20±4.83 points from the efficiency sub-dimension, and x̅=14.93±4.12 from the satisfaction sub-dimension. It was identified that there were no differences in the scores according to the age group, grade, or Internet use durations (p>0.05) but the scores of male students were observed to be higher than those of female in the sub-dimensions of competence and motivation as well as practicality within the ASRUDEEDP.
