Socio-technical transitions towards more sustainable modes of production and consumption are receiving increasing attention in the academic world and also from political and economic decision-makers. There is increasing demand for resource-efficient technologies and institutional innovations, particularly at the city level. However, it is widely unclear how processes of change evolve and develop and how they are embedded in different socio-spatial contexts. While numerous scholars have contributed to the vibrant research field around sustainability transitions, the geographical expertise largely has been ignored. The lack of knowledge about the role of spatial contexts, learning processes, and the co-evolution of technological, economical, and socio-political processes has been prominently addressed. Bridging approaches from Transition Studies and perspectives of Economic Geography, the paper presents conceptual ideas for an evolutionary and relational understanding of urban sustainability transitions. The paper introduces new perspectives on sustainability transitions towards a better understanding of socio-spatial contexts.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to describe knowledge, awareness and experience of different employees in a Swedish municipality (City of Gothenburg) concerning the disability perspective, accessibility and universal design in practice. Design/methodology/approach This study is based on an online survey. A total of 119 different employees responded to the survey. The data was analyzed from a mixed-method approach, using descriptive statistics and textual analysis. The study also included personal interviews with 19 employees in the City of Gothenburg. Findings A total of 521 employees in the City of Gothenburg participated in disability awareness exercises (DAE) at the Disability Awareness Arena to gain greater knowledge and insight on disability perspectives in different environments and services. Of these, 119 people representing different professions in soft and hard services and companies participated in the survey; and 19 people participated in personal interviews. The study showed that a vast majority of them were very satisfied and they have developed and practiced their new knowledge and attitude toward disability and accessibility. Research limitations/implications One limitation in this study is that it has investigated the experiences and effects of the DAE 6–12 months after its implementation. Therefore, it is not possible to analyze long-term effects that the DAE can have in practice. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no prior study of these issues has been conducted in Sweden. This study is deemed to have significant social benefit because of the steadily increasing demand for disability simulations, awareness of disability perspective and accessibility in municipality settings. No other study has addressed the importance of the DAE in these perspectives. DAE is defined in this article as a unique concept for promoting the usage of the disability perspective in the everyday workplace.

Using the 2008 Zaragoza International Exhibition “Water and sustainable development” as a case study, this paper aims to respond to the increasing demand for measurements of the effects and the implications of the performance of cross-sector partnerships from the perspective of their intended final beneficiaries. A contingency framework for measuring the short-, medium- and long-term effects of the 2008 Zaragoza International Exhibition is developed based on a “results chain” or “logic model”. Our results highlight that there are positive long-term synergies between the two main purposes of the 2008 Zaragoza International Exhibition; first, to increase public awareness of and commitment to the problems of water and sustainable development and, second, to make the city of Zaragoza better known internationally and to modernize its infrastructures. Although respondents to our survey consider that the long-term effects on the city are greater, the main short- and medium-term effects are related to awareness of water problems, sustainable development and non-governmental organizations. These results are in tune with what has happened around the city in the last 10 years providing indirect validity both to our study and to the proposed methodology.

Sustainable transportation is one of the major concerns in cities. This concern involves all type of movements motivated by different goals (mobility of citizens, transportation of goods and parcels, etc.). The main goal of this work is to provide an intelligent approach for Sustainable Last Mile Delivery, by reducing (or even deleting) the need of dedicated logistic moves (by cars, and/or trucks). The method attempts to reduce the number of movements originated by the parcels delivery by taking advantage of the citizens’ movements. In this way our proposal follows a crowdsourcing approach, in which the citizens that moves in the city, because of their own needs, become temporal deliverers. The technology behind our approach relays on Multi-agent System techniques and complex network-based algorithms for optimizing sustainable delivery routes. These artificial intelligent approaches help to reduce the complexity of the scenario providing an efficient way to integrate the citizens’ routes that can be executed using the different transportation means and networks available in the city (public system, private transportation, eco-vehicles sharing systems, etc.). A complex network-based algorithm is used for computing and proposing an optimized Sustainable Last Mile Delivery route to the crowd. Moreover, the executed tests show the feasibility of the proposed solution, together with a high reduction of the CO 2 emission coming from the delivery trucks that, in the case studies, are no longer needed for delivery.

ABSTRACTGovernments are challenged by the need to ensure that ageing populations stay active and engaged as they age. Therefore, it is critical to investigate the role of mobility in older people's engagement in out-of-home activities, and to identify the experiences they have within their communities. This research investigates the use of transportation by older people and its implications for their out-of-home activities within suburban environments. The qualitative, mixed-method approach employs data collection methods which include a daily travel diary (including a questionnaire), Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking and semi-structured interviews with older people living in suburban environments in Brisbane, Australia. Results show that older people are mobile throughout the city, and their car provides them with that opportunity to access desired destinations. This ability to drive allows older people to live independently and to assist others who do not drive, particularly where transport alternatives are not as accessible. The ability to transport goods and other people is a significant advantage of the private car over other transport options. People with no access to private transportation who live in low-density environments are disadvantaged when it comes to participation within the community. Further research is needed to better understand the relationship between transportation and participation within the community environment, to assist policy makers and city and transportation planners to develop strategies for age-friendly environments within the community.

As the merger of innovations from developing financial services for the twenty-first century, FinTech has brought payment methods into a new and electronic era, and non-cash payment is gradually becoming the mainstream for transaction activities. This study empirically investigates the effects of FinTech on consumer non-cash payment satisfaction, and the moderating role of financial knowledge is examined as well. Utilizing the data from the China Household Finance Survey in 2017, the results indicate that the use of FinTech can significantly promote consumer satisfaction towards non-cash payment. The mechanism analysis specific to the moderating role also shows that financial knowledge positively contributes to the impacts of FinTech on consumer non-cash payment satisfaction. The findings of this study imply that financial service providers are recommended to promote their facilities to meet consumers’ increasing demand for financial services. Besides, consumers should also take the initiative to improve their financial knowledge to better integrate non-cash payment into life and enjoy the satisfaction brought by FinTech.

More demanding consumers pressure the food industry to attend the increasing demand for information. Traceability is a system that allows to gather information related to a product, from the beginning of its production chain to the moment of consumption. Data recording is the first stage of the Data Life Cycle, and supports the implementation of a system that is capable of tracking egg quality information. Egg is a widely consumed staple food and the Brazilian poultry production needs to be structured in order to attend quality and informational requirements. The aim of this paper is to identify the critical points of the traceability information gathering of eggs in commercial farms. The interviews carried for this paper allowed to validate the identified requirements, and to propose improvements in the process of collecting data of eggs. The steps of sanitary management in breeding and rearing, control of inputs, eggs collection, eggs classification and product identification were described as the critical steps for the implementation of traceability.

The increasing demand for space, especially for settlements and built-up land, has an impact on the declining environmental quality of the area. The Spatial Plan that has been made is not able to prevent land conversion in urban areas so that the existence of Green Open Space (RTH) is increasingly threatened and the city is increasingly uncomfortable for activities, especially for joint activities. This study will discuss the "Identification of the Use of Green Open Land for the Development of Culinary Areas in Pluit, North Jakarta". The purpose of this study is to determine the availability of green open space in North Jakarta, as well as to find out the existence of matters concerning the misuse of green open space in Pluit, North Jakarta based on local regulations governing Green Open Space. The method used in this analysis is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques in the form of secondary data. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the availability of green open land in North Jakarta is only about 5% of the total area, this percentage is still far from meeting the provisions of the law which stipulates that the proportion of green open space in urban areas must reach 30%. The development of the culinary area in Pluit has several violations such as Law Number 26 of 2007 concerning Spatial Planning, which only provides 11% open space, Regional Regulation no. 8 of 2007 concerning Public Order in DKI Jakarta in article 36, because it builds a culinary area adjacent to the High Voltage Air Line (SUTET) and there are buildings that stand on Green Open Land.
