<span>The design of a first year course with enrolments of about 400 students which is delivered using information technology via the Internet or Intranet is reviewed. The course is composed of a variety of information technology based applications including course materials, bulletin boards, email, quizzes, access to the World Wide Web and multimedia packages linked together using a single Internet browser interface. Access statistics through the entire course were collected hourly over the sixteen weeks of semester and separated on the basis of gender and final grade. Statistical analysis is presented which shows that different groups of students access the course in different ways. Performance in the course is statistically related to the number of times the student accesses the package. We find no evidence that males are advantaged or disadvantaged compared to females through the use of information technology although females appear to use the communications part of the course more than males. Based on the access statistics, we make recommendations on the components which seem to be well received by students and we note some components which will require more careful integration into a teaching program. Overall, the delivery of a first year course via information technology works well provided the components are carefully integrated into the course framework.</span>

The commercial development of the Internet has been punctuated with legal disputes over the use of trademarks as domain names, as metatags, as search terms, and as advertising keywords. As in previous disputes in copyright over the legal status of software, these Internet trademark disputes arise from the overlap of communicative and functional symbols in information technology. Such "cybermarks" are not merely indicators of product source, but function both as symbolic indicia for human recognition and as strings of computer code in the operation of automated search and indexing mechanisms. Application of trademark law's functionality doctrine, perhaps with some modest amendment, could begin to resolve disputes over the use of cybermarks.

Domain names are no longer treated as only providing an address for computers on the Internet but are treated as trademarks in relation to commercial activity of a particular company or business. With the expansion of telecommunication, it has become essential for business houses to protect their trade name from cyber squatters or cyber pirates. Some of the countries like US have developed a specific legislation for the protection of domain names, but in India the Information Technology Act, 2000, is limited to e-commerce only and fails to acknowledge this sensitive issue. The present chapter is an attempt to highlight the problem of domain names, the legislation laid down in US, specifically to deal with the problem of cyber squatters or cyber pirates, and dispute resolution mechanisms laid down by ICANN. The chapter further suggests the need for specific legislation in India along with other alternatives.

Data transmitted over the Internet does not recognize national borders. It is this factor that has led information technology to open up new avenues in global commerce. People in separate countries can work on the same project without having to physically relocate. Organizations can now deploy their resources and operations anywhere around the world. Information about new products, corporate earnings, etc; can be shared simultaneously in a networked economy via corporate e-mail systems, value-added networks or over the Internet. In an increasingly globalized business world, for which the Internet is partly responsible, countries are likely to experience the migration of skilled workers to higher paying economies or jobs. Therefore, as the globalization of the world’s economy takes shape, concerted efforts must be made by national governments and states to train enough students and workers to meet the new challenges brought about by the digital economy (Selhofer, 2003).

Fundamental changes that have taken place in the realm of information technology— particularly with the emergence of the Internet—have altered significantly ways by which people communicate, interact and exchange information. Similarly, in the realm of education, the same events have changed the ways by which teaching and learning were conducted. Indeed, the integration of technology into learning has made the learning process more interactive, collaborative and experiential. However, any innovation in education, as a result of advances in technology, is not an end in itself, but one that must be based on scientific research. This study was a library research, seeking to evaluate some of the existing efforts in integrating YouTube into learning and review a series of critical examination of such practices from the perspective of transformative critical pedagogy. The study showed that the majority of learning that has made use of YouTube demonstrated high access to the material, a more successful learning, and increased motivation of students to learn even further by searching more relevant videos. Nonetheless, for YouTube’s integration into learning to be transformative, it needs clear philosophical and pedagogical foundations. Otherwise, it may serve as the fulfilment of capitalist consumerism. Keywords: technology, integration, learning, YouTube

This is a standout amongst the hugest upsets in Information Technology, after the development of the Internet. Cloud databases, Big Table, Sherpa, and SimpleDB are getting the opportunity to be more natural to groups.
