Giving MSG can reduce the morphological quality, motility, and count of spermatozoa. Propoelix extract as an antioxidant is evidently capable of a non-enzymatic radical scavenger. This research aims at evaluating the effect of propoelix extract administration on sperm quality of MSG-induced male Wistar rats. Employing the post the only control group design, 18 rats aged 3 months were divided into 3 random groups, weighing ±250 gram. Propoelix extract was given orally for 21 days and on 22 days, cauda epididymis until the ampulla of vas deferens was cut in a glass jar that has been given 0,5 cc of 0,9% physiological solution. The result of spermatozoa morphology (%) in group K (54,5) group P1 (65) group P2 (76) was significantly higher, p < 0,05. Spermatozoa motility (%) in group K (41.3) group P1 (53.8) group P2 (65.3) were significantly higher, p < 0.05. The number of spermatozoa cells (million/ml) in group K (2.65), group P1 (3.63), group P2 (4.91) was significantly higher, p < 0.05. Conculatition of propoelix extract was able to improve the quality of the morphology, motility, and the count of spermatozoa of MSG-induced male Wistar rats.

This study aimed at determining how the effect of Wi-Fi 4G electromagnetic wave radiation exposure to the volume of testes, epididymis and sperm quality in male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). This research was conducted at Laboratory of Medical Biology of Sriwijaya University with Pretest-Postest Control Group Design. A total of 28 males Wistar rats were divided into 2 groups randomly: control group and treatment group. Treatment group was divided into 3 groups, each group was exposed 8, 16, 24 hours per day, daily radiation for 48 days. After the rats were terminated, the surgery was performed by taking secretions from the cauda epididymis.The data were analyzed by One Way Anova test. After being exposed to radiation of 4G Wi-Fi electromagnetic waves, there was significantly different mean, decreasing testicular volume, epididymis and sperm morphology value (p = 0,000) with alpha value 0.05 (p <α) in comparison with the control group. It was concluded that the exposure of 4G Wi-Fi electromagnetic radiation could decrease the volume of epididymis and sperm morphology on male Wistar rats, especially, on 24 hours exposure. Abstract: High temperatures lead to oxidative stress which can decrease the quality of spermatozoa. Mangosteen rind contains polyphenols inter alia xanthones which have antioxidant properties. As free radical scavengers, the xanthones provide fast hydrogen atom movement into the lipid radicals and turn them into more stable forms. This study aimed to determine the effect of extract of mangosteen rind on wistar male sperm quality exposed to heat. This was an experimental study with a posttest randomized control group design. Samples were 6 wistar rats divided into 2 groups: group P0 was exposured to 400C of temperature; group P1 was exposured to the same temperature however the rats were given extract of mangosteen rind. The treatment was done for 52 days. The results showed that P1 group showed some improvement in the quality of spermatozoa with an average concentration of spermatozoa 76.5, x 106 mL, average percentage of motility 82.2%, average percentage of morphologically normal spermatozoa 81.7%, and average percentage of abnormal morphology 18.3%. Conclusion: Extract of mangosteen rind can increase and improve the spermatozoa quality (concentration, motility, and morphology) of wistar rats exposed to heat.Keywords: quality of spermatozoa, xanthones, exposure to heat, oxidative stressAbstrak: Suhu panas memicu terjadinya stres oksidatif yang dapat menurunkan kualitas spermatozoa. Kulit buah manggis memiliki kandungan polifenol yaitu xanthone yang memiliki sifat antioksidan. Xanthone sebagai antioksidan yaitu penangkal radikal bebas memberikan atom hidrogen secara cepat ke radikal lipid dan mengubahnya menjadi bentuk yang lebih stabil. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak kulit buah manggis terhadap kualitas spermatozoa wistar jantan yang diberi paparan suhu panas. Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental dengan rancangan “post test randomized control group design”. Subyek penelitian sebanyak 6 ekor wistar yang terbagi menjadi 2 kelompok: kelompok P0 diberikan paparan suhu panas 400c, kelompok P1 diberikan paparan suhu sebesar 40°c dan ekstrak kulit buah manggis. Perlakuan dilakukan selama 52 hari. Hasil penelitian pada kelompok P1 menunjukkan perbaikan kualitas spermatozoa dengan rerata konsentrasi spermatozoa (76,5,x106 mL), rerata motilitas 82,2%, rerata morfologi normal spermatozoa 81,7%, dan rerata morfologi abnormal 18,3%. Simpulan: Pemberian ekstrak kulit buah manggis dapat meningkatkan kualitas spermatozoa (konsentrasi, motilitas, dan morfologi) dari wistar jantan Rattus norvegicus yang diberi paparan suhu panas.Kata kunci: kualitas spermatozoa, xanthone, paparan suhu panas, stres oksidatif

Background: Oral mucosa ulceration which often occurs usually in the form of white-yellowish spot with concave surface, reddish edge and pain. Based on previous research, Aloe vera process anti-inflammation substance that could help quickening ulceration healing process. This research aims to know the effect of Aloe vera flesh extract on Male wistar rats oral mucosa ulceration in-vivo. Method: this research was quasi experimental research with the post-test only control group design using Male wistar rats as the testing animal. In the research, there were three treatment groups: The first groups which was given aquadest treatment, second groups with Aloe vera flesh extract, and third groups which was given chlorhexidine gluconate 0,2% treatment. The data collecting was based on histopathology observation concerning the increase of fibroblast quantity. Result: The research result based on comparison test among the three groups with One Way Anova showed that on Day 3th, the average quantity of fibroblast didn't have significant difference between the treatment group and control group positive that was p>0,05, meanwhile on Day 7th every group showed significant difference p<0,05. Conclusion: It concluded that Aloe vera flesh extract has influence on the healing of Male wistar rats oral mucosa ulceration as shown by fibroblast increasing quantity.

Introduction: Cigarette smoke causes oxidative stress which results in reduced sperm concentration, motility and morphology, also increased levels of 8-OHdG as a marker of DNA damage. Vitamin C and E have potential role in repairing spermatozoa damages. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of vitamin C and E combination on sperm quality and cement 8-OHdG level of smoke exposed rats.Methods: This study used a post test only control group design among 18 male Wistar rats subject, aged 8 week, 150-200 grams body weight (BW). The subject was randomly divided into 3 groups, K1: control, K2: cigarettes smoke exposed, K3: cigarettes smoke exposed and given a combination of 0.045 mg/gBW vitamin C and 0.036 IU/gBW vitamin E per oral. Analysis was done on day 21 using one-way ANOVA and post-hoc LSD for sperm concentration, motility and morphology; using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests for cement 8- OHdG levels.Results: The lowest sperm concentration was found in   K2 (K2  32.59  million/mL,  K1 47.91 million/mL, K 339.43 million/mL); the lowest normal sperm motility was found in K2 (K 238.97%, K 164.57%, K3 51.43%); the lowest normal sperm morphology was found in K2 (K2 27.56%, K 138.36%, K 331.18%); and the highest cement 8- OHdG level was found in K2 (K2 20.18ng/mL, K1 3.43ng/mL, K3 5.28ng/mL).Conclusion: Combination of vitamin C and E can improve sperm concentration, motility and morphology and decrease cement 8-OHdG levels of smoke exposed rats.

Background: The extract of ramania Bouea macrophylla Griff) and binjai (Mangifera caesia) leaf have flavonoid compounds that function as antioxidants to balance the amount of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in tissues and optimize wound healing by helping synthesis of hydroxyproline which is used as a collagen synthesis material. Objective: To compare the effect of 15% concentration of ramania leaf extract gel, 15% concentration of binjai leaf extract gel on collagen density in back incision wounds of male Wistar rats on day 7 and day 14. Methods: This study used a true experimental design with a posttest-only with control group design. The study sample used male wistar rats that were healthy and active, aged 2-3 months with a body weight of 250-300 grams. The total sample was 18 rats divided into 6 groups. The 15% concentration of ramania and binjai leaves was given topically, then the rats were euthanized on the 7th and 14th day. Collagen index measurement was using hydroxyproline concentration. Results: Two-way Anova data analysis showed a significant value of 0.00 (p<0.05), which means that there was a difference in effect between the treatment gel and wound day. Bonferroni Post Hoc test showed a significant value in all treatment gel groups. Conclusion: There is a difference in the effect of 15% concentration of ramania leaf extract gel and 15% concentration of binjai extract gel on collagen density. Binjai leaf extract gel at 15% concentration is more effective for collagen density than Ramania leaf extract at 15% concentration and placebo. Keywords : Binjai Leaf Extract Gel, Collagen, Hydroxyproline, Ramania Leaf Extract Gel.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving Averrhoa bilimbi leaf extract on sperm quality of diabetic mice. This research is a pure experimental (true experimental) with a post-test-only control group design approach. This research was conducted by giving Averrhoa bilimbi leaf extract as a treatment for 42 days in male mice. Sperm quality parameters observed included viability, abnormalities, motility in sperm. In all variables, the results of the data showing a normal distribution with a p-value > 0.05 were then carried out with a parametric test using one-way ANOVA. Averrhoa bilimbi leaf extract can increase the number of spermatogenic cells in male mice with hyperglycemia.

Abstract: It is known that Tribulus terrestris can improve sperm quality. One of the Indonesian traditional medicine, jamu, contains this Tribulus terrestris. This study aimed to investigate the effect of jamu containing Tribulus terrestris on sperm quality which consisted of concentration, motility, and morphology of spermatozoa of male wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). This was an experimental study. Nine male wistar rats were randomly divided into 3 groups of 3 rats each: Group P0 (control), group P1 (given 5 mg of Tribulus terrestris), and group P2 (given 10 mg of Tribulus terrestris). This study was conducted for 52 days. The results showed that the spermatozoa concentration of P1 was 49x106 sperm/ml suspension and of P2 53x106 sperm/ml suspension; both were lower than of P0 (59x106 sperm/ml suspension). The sperm motility category (A+B) of P1 was 33% and of P2 (37%); both were lower than of P0 (45%). The motility category A was not found in P1 and P2. The percentage of spermatozoa with normal morphology of P1 was 45% and the abnormal ones was 55%, meanwhile in P2 there was 49% of normal sperm morphology and 51% of abnormal morphology. Conclusion: Jamu containing Tribulus terrestris had no effect in improvement of the sperm quality.Keywords: jamu, Tribulus terrestris, sperm qualityAbstrak: Tribulus terrestris dikenal sebagai bahan yang dapat memperbaiki kualitas sperma. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental. Sampel 9 ekor tikus wistar jantan (Rattus norvegicus) dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok yakni, kelompok P0 (kontrol); kelompok P1 (pemberian Tribulus terrestris 5 mg); dan kelompok P2 (pemberian Tribulus terrestris 10 mg). Penelitian dilakukan selama 52 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi spermatozoa P1 49x106 sperma/ml suspensi dan P2 53x106 sperma/ml suspensi lebih rendah dibandingkan P0 59x106 sperma/ml suspensi. Motilitas spermatozoa kategori A+B pada P1 (33%) dan P2 (37%) lebih rendah dibandingkan pada P0 (45%). Tidak ditemukan motilitas kategori A pada P1 dan P2. Morfologi spermatozoa normal pada P1 sebesar 45% dan abnormal 55%. P2 memiliki morfologi spermatozoa normal sebesar 49% dan abnormal 51%. Simpulan: Pemberian jamu dengan Tribulus terrestris tidak meningkatkan kualitas sperma yang mencakup konsentrasi, motilitas, dan morfologi spermatozoa.Kata kunci: jamu, Tribulus terrestris, kualitas sperma

Introduction:Liver exposure to toxic substances will disrupt the metabolic system. Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) is a hepatotoxic substance causing a liver damage. Continuous multi-stage countercurrent extraction(CMCE) propolis extract contains active balsamic substances, caffeic acid, phenethyl esters and flavonoids.Objective: to prove the effect of CMCE propolis extract on IL-1 levels and the hepatocyte histopathology findingsof male wistar rats�induced by CCl4.Methods:In the posttest only control group design, the total sample of 28 rats was divided into 4 groups: positive control group (K-0; standard feed); group P-1 (propolis3.6 mg/200 g); P-2 (propolis7.2mg/200gr and P-3 (propolis14.4mg/200g) were respectively given for 14 days,yet those on the 14thday were given CCl4. The IL-1 level was measured with the ELISA method, while the male wistar rats�hepatocyte histopathology findings was determined by the HE staining methods. IL-1 levelswere analyzed usingOne Way Anova test,followed by the Post Hoc LSD test. Hepatic cell histopathology was analyzed usingKruskal Wallis, followed by Mann-Whitney U.Results:Post Hoc LSD analysis shows that the levels of IL-1 in P-1 (983.54 �19.67), P-2 (841.58�19.47), and P-3 (755.50�31.63) are significantlylower thanthosein K-0 (1131.69�14.91) withp<0.05. Mann-Whitney U analysis shows that the hepatocyte histopathology in the P-1 group (2.55�0.39), P-2 (1.24�0.94) and P-3 (1.20�0.93) is significantlylower thanthatinK-0 (2.94�0.16) with p<0.05.Conclusion: The administration of CMCE propolis extract may reduce IL-1 levels and improve the male wistar rats�hepatic cell histopathologyinduced with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4).

Background: Photoaging is a premature aging that occurs on skin due to the ultraviolet light exposure that causes the emergence of clinical symptoms, one of which is wrinkle. One kind of material that can prevent photoaging is antioxidant. A single clove garlic has the highest antioxidant activity compared to the other materials. Aim: This research aimed at investigating the effectivity of single clove garlic in inhibiting the clinical symptom of photoaging. Method: This research was an experimental research, utilizing pre-post-test control group design. The used sample were 30 male wistar rats which were divided into 6 experimental groups. All groups were exposed to UV-B light with the amount of 840 mJ/cm2. Control group (P1) was only exposed to UV-B while the other groups were treated with placebo cream (P2), sunblock (P3), 5% garlic cream (P4), 10% garlic cream (P5) and 20% garlic cream (P6) respectively. The clinical symptom in the form of wrinkle was observed by using dermascope and the observations were categorized based on Glogau Scale. The statistical analysis utilized Wilcoxon and Kruskal Wallis test which was followed by Mann Whitney test. Result: The result of the research showed that there was significant difference on the apparent wrinkle on P1 group and P3, P5 and P6. Meanwhile the comparison between P1, P2 and P4 was not significant. Conclusion: The single clove garlic extract can prevent photoaging and has the similar protective effect for the skin as of sunblock.

ABSTRACTBackground: Inflammatory and/or non-inflammatory processes play a role in stimulating pulp repair and the formation of hard tissue, namely reparative dentin. Macrophages play a role in the pathogenesis and chronic inflammatory disorders. The combination casein lactoferrin of bovine colostrum as an immunomodulator has therapeutic potential. This study aims to determine the therapeutic effect and duration of application of the combination of casein lactoferrin of bovine colostrum, on the expression of macrophages as pulp capping.Method: This study was a true experimental laboratories post test only control group design, consisting of three groups of 60 male wistar rats with 4 observation times, namely day to day 7, 14, 21 and 28 each of 5 mice. The maxillary 1st molars were prepared until the roof of the pulp was exposed. Three groups, namely the combination of casein and lactoferrin bovine colostrum (CKL) and calcium hydroxide (K1) and the untreated group (K0). Each group was filled with glassionomer as a permanent restoration. The tissue was made histological preparations with hematoxylin-eosin staining and the number of macrophages were counted, then analyzed by two way ANOVA and post hoc LSD tests.Result: The results showed that the therapeutic effect and duration of application of the combination of casein and lactoferrin bovine colostrum on the expression of macrophages as pulp cappingConclusion: The combination of casein and lactoferrin of bovine colostrum as capping material can increase the number of macrophages in the healing process of dental pulp.
