The aim of this research is to determine the role of multiple representations such as problem picture, ray diagram, and equation used by the students in solution of the image projection problems. The study is performed by the survey method. The participants of this study were prospective physics teachers of a faculty of education from a state university in Turkey. Fifty-three teacher candidates solved open-ended questions and 20 of them were also interviewed. The results have shown that the students used two different types of solution method; in solution 1, they used the solution method where “problem pictures, mirror/lens equations and ray diagrams” are used, and in solution 2, they used the solution method where “problem pictures and mirror/lens equations” are used. The results show that students mostly prefer the second solution method, however, the students who prefer the first solution method are more successful than them. Also, it is found that the students have various alternative ideas about the usage of these multiple representations. The reasons of these alternative ideas are discussed at the end of the study. Key words: alternative ideas, image formation, multiple representations, ray diagram.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the experiences of the teacher candidates about their personal phones, their phone usage situations and their perceptions about their smartphones during the Covid-19 process. The mixed method procedure was followed in the study. In the quantitative dimension, the survey model was used in order to reveal the smartphone usage status of the teacher candidates, while in the qualitative dimension, the phenomenology model was used to determine their perceptions about the smartphone. The sample of the study consisted of 45 teacher candidates studying in the faculty of education at a state university located in Turkey's Aegean region during the 2020-2021 fall semester. The data of the study were collected by the researcher with a questionnaire form created by taking the literature review and expert opinion. The quantitative data collected within the scope of the research were subjected to statistical analysis. The metaphors collected in qualitative dimension were analyzed with content analysis. Research findings indicated that the teacher candidates were generally aware of the technical features of their personal phones. On the other hand, it has been determined that they are indecisive in controlling themselves about their phone usage, being dependent on their phones and being aware of their phone time. It has been observed that the teacher candidates produced metaphors for their smart phones that point to the themes of “addiction, functionality, correct use, having a happy time, socialization/communication and other.” It can be said that the research is important in terms of providing researchers and decision makers with new perspectives on the smartphone perception and experiences of teacher candidates in the Covid-19 process.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine and present the beliefs which about concept of history of through metaphor analysis to history teacher candidates who in the history pedagogy programme of students in Trabzon University at Fatih Education Faculty. The survey method was used in the study and the data were obtained through the metaphor survey. Via metaphors, the two things that are not alike by acting on the common characteristics, similar features tried to create with analogy. This research is based on a qualitative approach and the study was carried out with the students attending the history pedagogy program of Fatih Faculty of Education. A total of 74 teachers, 37 girls and 37 boys, participated in the survey. Since the entire universe intended to be reached, the study doesn’t require a sample. The data were obtained through open-ended questionnaires. Prior to the study, participants who history teacher candidates were informed about what the metaphor and how the metaphor is produced is by giving examples from different fields. The questionnaire form is distributed to each of the teacher candidates and filling gaps produce metaphors coherent the expression which history is like ……...". Because ………. In the research the concept of “because” was by given participants want to present a reason for their generate metaphors about the concept of history. These data were evaluated according to the content analysis which is a qualitative data analysis approach. In this framework, metaphors were first read and then coded process was done. Then, conceptual categories were constitute from the obtained codes. In the light of the data obtained. In the light of the data obtained, produced 201 valid metaphors related to the concept of history by history teacher candidates. 8 main categories are produced from these metaphors. These are: ‘‘history which illuminates the future and guide’’, ‘‘history as unknown’’, ‘‘history as illuminating past’’, “accumulated, increasing history’’, ‘‘history as transmitter proud’’, ‘‘history as records everything’’, ‘‘history as researchers’’ and ‘‘subjective history’’. In contrast, it is understood that teacher candidates don’t produce metaphors in relation to historical thinking skills, time, chronology, cause- result, empathy and critical thinking. In addition to this, it is also the result of this research that the candidates are unable to produce metaphors in relation to the scientific research aspects of history and the scientific research skills. In other words, it is seen that the history teacher candidates who participated in the research have looked at history from a traditional perspective.

This study aims to investigate the impact of parental career behaviors on undergraduate student’s career exploration and the mediating role of career self-efficacy. In the literature it is suggested that some social and individual factors facilitate students’ career exploration. Therefore, parental career behaviors and career self-efficacy is considered as predictors of student’s career exploration attitudes within the scope of the study. In this respect, data which are collected from 405 undergraduate students having an education on tourism and hotel management field by the survey method are analyzed by using the structural equation modeling. The results of the study indicate that parental career behaviors which are addressed support; interference and lack of engagement have a significant effect on student’s career exploration behaviors such as intended-systematic exploration, environment exploration and self-exploration. In addition, it has been found that one of the dimensions of parental career behaviors addressed as a lack of engagement has a significant effect on career self-efficacy levels of students. However, research results indicate that student’s career self-efficacy has a significant effect on only the self-exploration dimension. On the other hand, career self-efficacy has a partial mediating role between lack of engagement attitudes of parents and career exploration behaviors of students.

George O. May, one of, if not ‘the’ leading spokesman for the American Institute of CPAs for most of his lifetime, was the product of British education and an articled clerkship. This paper reviews the features and information about May's clerkship (indentureship) articles, including aspects of what is now called professional responsibility. Also mentioned are selected highlights and sources related to his career in public accounting, including his ‘cameo’ role at the l904 World Congress of Accountants in St. Louis where he participated with prominent leaders of the emerging United States CPA community, including Staub, Sterrett, Montgomery, and Sells, as well as his countrymen Pixley and Dickinson [Official Record, p. 164]. This study of George O. May's preparation provides details about a relatively unnoticed chapter in the career of an individual who was among the first group of inductees, in l950, along with William A. Paton and Robert H. Montgomery, to the Accounting Hall of Fame at The Ohio State University. Additionally, May's clerkship requirements are indicative of the role of professional responsibility in the decade before the turn of the twentieth century.
