AbstractThis article argues that constructions of social phenomena in social policy and welfare scholarship think about the subjects and objects of welfare practice in essentialising ways, with negativistic effects for practitioners working in ‘regulatory’ contexts such as housing and homelessness practice. It builds into debates about power, agency, social policy and welfare by bringing psychosocial and feminist theorisations of relationality to practice research. It claims that relational approaches provide a starting point for the analysis of empirical practice data, by working through the relationship between the individual and the social via an ontological unpicking and revisioning of practitioners' social worlds.

Homeschooling practices still generate a variety of contrasting responses to their relevance and effectiveness. This study aims to map the relationship patterns of homeschooling students with the development of self potential that has been through the analysis phase. The analysis conducted focuses on mapping relationships: a) research arrangements; b) target sample; c) methods and instruments used; d) general focus or issues discussed; and e) patterns in findings from student development. It was found that this study focused more on evaluating the effectiveness and relevance of homeschooling as an alternative to traditional schools, especially in the field of effective learning experiences and developments in the social media world. Apart from the advantages of homeschooling practice, this article also finds harmony from the importance of guidance and counseling conducted by the teacher in improving students' self-potential. So that this research provides recommendations for further effective homeschooling practices

Psychoanalytic research on social phenomena in university: political potentiality within subversion of discoursesAbstract: This paper explores the epistemological and political consequences of conducting research on social phenomena from a psychoanalytic perspective within the university, for the psychoanalysis, the social field and the university. In the beginning, we established the relationship between science and psychoanalysis, which allows us to reflect on the psychoanalysis participation in the university and the classic tensions of this exchange. Next, we present the impasse of researching social phenomena from the psychoanalysis taking in account the indissociability between theory, method and clinic. Our theoretical perspective is the discourses theory of Lacanian psychoanalysis, indicating the political potential of this research modality by causing subversions in the forms of power and discursive domination in the university, in the institutions of psychoanalysis and in the social field. Keywords: Social phenomena; Psychoanalytical research; Discourses theory; Psychoanalysis; Subversion.

AbstractThe turn to the philosophy of scientific realism as a meta-theory for the study of International Relations manifests a reluctance to confront the basic problem of the relationship between philosophy and social scientific inquiry. Despite the realists' rejection of traditional empiricism, and particularly the instrumentalist account of scientific theory, the enthusiasm for realism neglects many of the same problems that, more than a generation earlier, were involved in the social scientific embrace of positivism. One of these problems was a lack of understanding regarding the character and history of the philosophy of natural science and its relationship and applicability to the study of social phenomena. Proponents of realism have also neither adequately articulated and defended realism as a philosophical position, and distinguished it from other perspectives, nor confronted the fundamental challenge to realism and other foundationalist philosophies which has been mounted by the contemporary critique of traditional representational philosophy.

There has hardly been any other development that has changed our everyday lives as significantly as digitalisation, and there is hardly anything as commonplace as neighbourship. Despite the links between these two concepts growing, they have been neglected in social science research in Germany so far. The prevailing sentiment is that the Internet and social media sites have no connection to the real world, but there are countless neighbourship groups on Facebook, Twitter hashtags named after neighbourhoods or entire websites, such as ‘nebenan.de’, which endeavour to strengthen local community bonds through digital means. In short, the social developments in this respect are already considerably more advanced than the knowledge that exists about it. This anthology makes a fundamental contribution to the sociological debate on digitalisation and neighbourship by aiming to provide an overview of the relationship between digitalisation and neighbourship on the one hand, and open up avenues for further research on the other. It therefore examines and systematises attempts to strengthen local community bonds using digital media from different perspectives.

In this article, we report experiences and reflections about community relations experienced through a research intervention entitled Public policies and medicinal community garden: building a manual for use in associative projects, of the Graduate Program in Territorial Planning - PLANTERR (professional master's degree) from Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana - Bahia. The research was conducted in the Community of Bastião in Retirolândia, Bahia with the participation of 12 women members from the Bastianense association. By applying the intervention research method, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the community and medicinal plants, as well as stimulate bonds between those involved, strengthening these bonds from the daily experience of the participants, their ways of life, their expectations and the relationships they maintain with the association and the local community. The result of this research-intervention was the implementation of a community garden of medicinal plants and the production of a socio-educational manual for the implementation of this type of vegetable garden.

International students are not only important for universities, but even more so to the host communities, towns and regions where higher education institutions are located. This pilot study looked at a public university located in a small college town in Ohio. The study explored the relationship between international students and the local community. Data for this study was collected through questionnaires and conversations with international students from seven different countries, and complemented by participant observations. The outcomes of this study suggest that international students at the subject university feel a low level of engagement with the local community. Student questionnaires and conversations indicated that their daily schedules in the United States contained fewer activities and social interactions than in their home towns. The study explored potential reasons for this difference in daily routines and community engagement, as expressed by interviewed students.

As anthropologists, applied researchers, and action researchers, we have long explored the relationship between researcher and researched; many of us have tried to reconceptualize these roles to make informants more equal partners in the research process. In the Southern African country of Botswana, Participatory Rural Appraisals (PRAs) have become the favored way to involve community members in applied-research. PRAs assist communities gather and document information about their surroundings, build rapport between the local community and extension officers, and plan development efforts through a series of facilitator-led activities. A PRA exercise results in a community-action plan, in which community members outline what will be done, when, how, and by whom. But while PRAs have been developed to help community members create a village profile and needs assessment, the research protocol itself tends to be a standardized "fill-in-the-blank exercise." In the most typical scenario, community members, with the guidance of outside facilitators, supply the missing information. The popularity of PRAs, coupled with this fixed, externally-driven format, raises questions about the meaning of participation in participatory research, and the degree to which community members can be expected to participate in researching their own lives. As part of my own examination of these issues, I recently co-facilitated a different model of participatory research in Botswana, in which the tools for data collection were fully designed and used by community members to research their own communities. In this article, I write about my own experiences, and those of the men and women who became participant researchers, in order to examine the power that active participation in research generates among community members and to describe the social and political dilemmas that arose from that participation.

The article contains the characteristic of constructivism as a philosophical doctrine. The author shows the distinction between the epistemic constructivism, which considers cognition as the construction of epistemological images; the social constructivism in the theory of knowledge, within the framework of which the construction of epistemological phenomena is interpreted not as an individual, but as a communicative, historical-dimensional and culturally-deterministic process; and socio-ontological constructivism, which analyzes the appearance of objectified social phenomena (as opposed to knowledge as such ) and, ultimately, the appearance of social reality in social interactions and communication acts. The article fixes the features of pedagogical concepts, determined by the use of various variants of constructivism as research programs. The author thesis is substantiated that social constructivism in pedagogy can be considered not only as a general learning strategy of knowledge production in students' independent activities, but also as a meaningfully developed methodological program of training and education, which determines the activity of a teacher too from a constructivist position.
