The article represents the results of an experimental study on the formation of the media competence of the student’s personality in the context of media education. The definitions of key terms have been given: media education, media literacy, media competence. Based on the experience of the higher educational establishments of Germany, the experimental study made it possible to trace both common and distinguishing characteristics in the formation of media competence. At the establishing stage of the experiment the following tasks were addressed: the pedagogical essence of the development of media competence of university students in Ukraine and the FRG; the elaboration of the criteria, levels and stages of development of the students’ media competence; the identification of the initial level of the media competence development of Ukrainian university students. At the forming stage, the research was concerned with highlighting of the media strengths of Ukrainian and German students in a comparative analysis, as well as checking the efficiency of the pedagogical conditions for the development of media competence of the university students. The results of the establishing stage of the experimental work revealed an insufficient level of development of media competence of Ukrainian university students, pointed out their main media preferences as value orientations in media space. The result of the forming stage is the development and implementation of the model of media competence development in the university educational process, making use of the German pedagogical experience of personality mediatization. In the course of the German language practical classes and in the optional course the following media education methods were used: the mediaobiographic method, the method of narrative analysis of media text, L. Kolberg’s method of moral dilemma. Thus, the experimental and peda gogical work carried out allows us to conclude that the implemented pedagogical methods promote the development of the levels of students’ media competence, as evidenced by the positive dynamics of the studied indicators among the Ukrainian students.

The study is aimed at theoretical substantiation, development and experimental testing of methods of applying mobile technologies by university students. The objectives of the study imply adapting mobile testing systems and mobile means of multimedia development for using in the classroom environment at universities. The research object is application of mobile ICT to the educational process. The research subject is methods of applying mobile testing systems and mobile means to conduct practical classes at the University. The studies of Ukrainian and foreign researchers dedicated to the question of using mobile ICT for the university educational process were analyzed. Mobile testing systems are defined as a variety of mobile software support aimed firstly to measure students’ academic results, which enables to automatize the process of both current and final control through applying modern testing means, and secondly to intensify the educational process comprehensively. It is found that mobile means of multimedia development are to fulfill the principles of multimedia, space vicinity, time contiguity, coherence, modality, excessiveness, personalization, interactivity signalization and individual distinctions. The authors have developed the methods of applying mobile testing systems by taking Plickers system, as the one providing the opportunity to arrange a rapid feedback between a lecturer and both an academic group and an individual student. The system also allows conducting mobile surveys, in- class general questioning and instant control of students’ attendance. The authors have developed methods of applying mobile tools of multimedia development through using augmented reality. The comparative assessment of functionality of mobile testing systems and mobile means of developing augmented reality multimedia was held. Efficiency of the developed technology was experimentally tested and confirmed.

The article considers the possibility of using non-traditional recreational facilities in the educational process with university students. The purpose of the study is to assess the impact of the developed methodology for fitball gymnastics and fitness yoga on the health level of students. To achieve the goal, the following tasks were set: theoretically substantiate the proposed methodology of classes; identify and conduct a comparative analysis of adaptive potential according to the method of R.M. Baevsky and the level of the functional state of first-year students during an experimental study. Scientific novelty lies in the expansion of theoretical and practical approaches to physical education at the university. The positive impact of the proposed teaching methods on the level of functional readiness of first-year students is substantiated and experimentally proved. To improve the methodology, a set of methods was used: analysis of scientific and methodological literature, the method of pedagogical research, pedagogical experiment, methods of mathematical statistics.

Much has been said and written about media education, its relevance and goals. Beyond directives, resolutions or recommendations, research in this area has deepened the foundations of media education but has also emphasized its weak points or faults. One of these critical points noted in the training and research work developed at the University of Minho, Portugal, in the last 20 years is the non-existence of resources and materials that could be used to promote media education in different contexts. But this is not just about the availability of materials, it concerns the importance of putting knowledge into practice and of mediating the knowledge produced with the appropriate audience. This concern was the basis of the ‘Media Education in Booklets’ project carried out by the Society and Communication Research Centre and funded by the Evens Foundation, Belgium. This paper presents the resources produced by this project in the form of three booklets: the first deals with the mediation of TV at school and at home; the second describes videogames, ways of playing, benefits, dangers, creativity and interculturality; the third is about the Internet and social networks, and the new forms of relationships and communication that these allow.

This study examines the relationship between university students' news media use and the perception of politics and their attitude towards political involvement. Data was gathered from an online survey from 300 students enrolled in various universities in Lahore. The survey of the university students revealed that students tend to receive their political news and information passively from Facebook and Television. They are not likely to actively engage in seeking out political information by reading newspapers, magazines or websites. Facebook seems to be the most favored source of information among students. All the students irrespective of their background and academic disciplines tend to consume media more or less in the same way. It is concluded that the involvement of young students in politics is tied to their perception which is cultivated by the media.
