In the framework of the PALETTE European research project, the Swiss federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) is designing and experimenting with eLogbook, a Web-based collaborative environment designed for communities of practice. It enables users to manage joint activities, share related assets and get contextual awareness. In addition to the original Web-based access, an email-based eLogbook interface is developed. The purpose of this lightweight interface is twofold. First, it eases eLogbook access when using smart phones or PDA. Second, it eases eLogbook acceptance for community members hesitating to learn an additional Web environment. Thanks to the proposed interface, members of a community can benefit from the ease of use of an email client combined with the power of an activity and asset management system without burden. The Web-based eLogbook access can be kept for supporting further community evolutions, when participation becomes more regular and activities become more complex. This chapter presents the motivation, the design and the incentives of the emailbased eLogbook interface.

The purpose of this research is to produce a website-e-learning media product using the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The method used in this research is a quasi-experimental method with a quantitative approach. The research design used was Pre-Test and Post-Test Control with a single treatment. In this study, there are two kinds of variables, namely the independent variable which is denoted as (X) and the dependent variable which is denoted as (Y). Independent variables are also known as influencing variables or causal variables. In this study, the variable is the use of website learning media (X). The data collection technique used in this study were tests, i.e. the pre-test and post-test learning achievement of Hören A1. The initial test was conducted to determine the learning achievement of students before receiving treatment, and the final test was to determine the learning achievement of students after receiving treatment. The research findings show that web-based learning is in accordance with basic needs in learning and can improve student achievement. This study is within the scope of teaching German and this research is new.

Students’ active engagement and participation in the learning process has always been the most desirable factor in English Language Teaching (ELT) classes. Yet, it remains challenging for educators to engage students and make them participate. This qualitative research addresses the potential for exploiting gamification and interactive activities to achieve improved engagement in ELT classes. The integration of technology in education enables educators to use web-based games and interactive activities in ELT classes to get students’ engagement. An analysis of the research done in the related fields proves that games and interactive activities, integrated with technology, can be more effectively used in ELT classes to deliver better outcomes, which include enhanced motivation, active engagement, and willing participation of learners in the learning process. Another observation is that the current scenario has reinforced the need for using gamification and interactive activities in online classes. For instance, pedagogical applications like Forum (Moodle), Nearpod, Kahoot!, and H5P can be used in both regular face-to-face classes and in online classes. A careful analysis of some research findings proves that educators face a number of difficulties such as lack of training and insufficient time to prepare. However, the researchers in the field have also provided some possible solutions such as collaboration at different levels. The present scenario demands new approaches as online classes necessitate the implementation of modern techniques such as web-based gamification and interactive activities in order to actively engage students in ELT classes.

The technology-based test has been a controversial issue during the last decade. On the other hand, it can offer solutions for an effective long-distance learning or e-Learning program which can be applicable in the situations where learning process is limited either in physically or time-constraint. Despite of monitoring students’ progress assessment is needed to evaluate whether the learning process is effective or not. With the intervention of internet and technology in the education field, this offers many ways to apply assessment for the learning progress. Web-based-test (WBT) offers a great varieties and features which is easily accessed. Furthermore, this research used two kinds of WBT, namely Google Form and Quizizz to look further of some benefits from these types of tests also to investigate its effectiveness. The following study applied the quantitative method where scoring result is gathered and calculated to measure the average score and the most preferable test-method. There were around 66 university students from two different majors. They were taking Business English at their second semester in Bunda Mulia Universit. The tests were conducted during the online program due to the pandemic situation. The finding reveals that both tests have its strongest and weakest points whereas the better result shows that Quizizz is higher than in Google Form.

This chapter investigates the e-learning experience of Moroccan public university students during the COVID-19-prompted quarantine. It aims to identify and analyze the effects of the online learning context during the pandemic on students' actual learning process as divided into three main stages. It consequently attempts to determine and measure means of receiving—technically, mentally, and emotionally—cognizing or understanding, and appropriating class contents online amidst the unintentional shock of the pandemic and the limited affordability and accessibility to web-based education. A sample of 448 students was randomly selected and surveyed by means of an online detailed self-prepared questionnaire in order to test three hypotheses. Results show that learners did not manage to succeed in all the three stages of the e-learning process, which puts their actual e-learning usability and usefulness into question.
