In a context where the proportion of older people increases, research related to active aging and digital technologies has generated a wide debate and numerous investigations aiming to implement new public policies. Usually these are based more on “classic” gaps than on the so-called “grey divide”, which focuses on perceptions and attitudes. To capture this dimension, a questionnaire was designed on uses, learning, and ethical, motivational and attitudinal aspects. A field work was carried out aimed at the population of the Autonomous Community of Madrid between 65 and 80 years old, with quotas of age and sex, with a total of 785 cases, with a sampling error of 3.5% for a p=95%. The results indicate that, given the specific uses made by the elderly, they are marked by the ubiquity of the cell phone, which is basically used to communicate, to alleviate loneliness and to stay active. Thus, through a cluster analysis we have been able to elaborate a typology of users according to attitudes and perceptions (grey divide) allowing us to better characterize the levels of technological adoption in a wider set of factors.

Population ageing is a natural process characterized by the increase in life expectancy and by a growth in the absolute number and proportion of elderly and senile persons in the population. These demographic changes increase the need for medical and social care among the people of this age group and require the development and implementation of new public policies.

Ageism and negative attitudes towards ageing have been identified within the literature as a cause for concern. Reactions to ageing are known to be strongly positively correlated with attitudes towards older people in general. Moreover, the link between ageist practice and quality of care is also established, but implications for education and training have not been explored. The aim of this study was to investigate the reactions to ageing of clinical and fieldwork educators of undergraduate students. Clinical and field work educators are largely responsible for all the clinical education received by these students and thus have the potential to be to be highly influential in the development of their attitudes towards the elderly. Reactions to ageing were measured among clinical educators registered with a University in South East England using The Reaction to Ageing Scale, and scores were classified into typologies. Results were obtained from 62% (n=87) physiotherapy and 87% (n=81) podiatry clinical educators and 71% (n=53) of occupational therapy fieldwork educators, attending training sessions. There was a significantly greater proportion of gerophiles among the physiotherapists than among the other groups. Podiatry gerophiles were significantly older than gerophiles in the other professional groups. The results from this small study suggest that further national work is indicated to examine attitudes in a larger population.

Extensive studies carried out in recent decades have noted the relevance of sexual activity to the health, well-being and quality of life of older people. In this context, we propose this research work that aims to know the factors that can potentially explain sexual inactivity in older populations. In addition to the sociodemographic factors that have traditionally been associated with sexual activity, we explored the explanatory potential and the sensitivity in the estimation of sexual inactivity in the last year of health perceptions and attitudes towards sexuality in a sample of 200 subjects between 62 and 91 years old (M = 71.30, SD = 5.48). The results obtained suggest important percentages of variance explained by the regression model where variables such as the existence of a partner, age and place of origin are incorporated (R2 = .295). Our results also point to the fact that, both the perception and concern for sexual health and the considerations regarding sexual relations before marriage or sex without love, would explain the sexual inactivity of the elderly. These results allow us to suggest the potential of the intervention centered on stereotypes and attitudes towards sexuality.

Green spaces are important parts of urban infrastructure. COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown periods around the world have confirmed benefits that people derive from using green spaces for their physical and mental health. Green spaces need to meet the needs of users so that people can use them and benefit over time. It is important to consider users' perceptions and attitudes. User input proves beneficial in improving management practices. We investigated the differences in attitudes and perceptions of respondents from different large settlements in Croatia towards green spaces. Data on the use and perception of green spaces were collected in the first lockdown period in Europe and processed the part of the questionnaire on attitudes and perceptions towards green spaces. People have similar, mostly positive perceptions of green spaces regardless of the size of the settlement. Differences were found in the perception of disadvantages and needs related to the management of green spaces. This is the first study of the attitudes and perceptions on a large spatial scale in Croatia, so the results are exploratory and important. This study contributes to research on the social aspects of green spaces by investigating the influence of environmental context on perceptions and attitudes.

The aim of this study is to analyse how PDO certification (Protected Designation of Origin) is being used to develop oenological tourism in rural areas in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). We will also consider how marketing technologies can be applied to increment the value of the wine landscape, society and economy in rural and inland areas. A search for bibliographic information and field work was carried out in 4 specific regions. The expected results are: the confirmation of the increase in the creation of oenological routes in PDO regions; the diversification of places and monuments linked to the sector of the wine that originate new tourist products; the increase of the purchasing power of the inhabitants of the rural area to have income from other economic sectors; and, the value of the PDO brand to promote a product, a territory, a culture in an agrarian society.

(1) The desiderata of a sampling-method are outlined, and the particular case of sampling a large number of potato plots discussed.(2) An analysis is made of the yields of 54 sub-plots of the Rothamsted Potato Experiment of 1928, both as estimated by a sampling-method and as determined by large-scale lifting.(3) It is shown that most of the significant results of the experiment are obtained from the sample-yields, but that the higher standard error per plot obscures the effect of superphosphate.(4) It is concluded that at Rothamsted 102, and at Woburn 56, plants would have to be lifted to give a sampling-error as small as 4 per cent. It would then be profitable only to sample experimental plots of 1/20th acre or more in area. Finally it is a pleasure to record our indebtedness to Dr R. A. Fisher for much valuable advice and criticism: and to Mr H. J. G. Hines for assistance with the field work.

Research on attitudes and perceptions of the aged is critically reviewed. Problems with early survey research methods such as lack of generalizability, susceptibility to demand characteristics, and inattention to psychometric quality are discussed. Recent studies are examined in terms of characteristics of the stimuli and contexts, and characteristics of the perceivers employed in them. Methodological and conceptual issues in these three categories are used to organize the body of research that exists. Suggestions are made for future research in which the use of multiple measures in specific contexts is emphasized.
