The article discusses the impact of government measures in regulating production of fish resources on daily life of fishing communities of the Ob North and on related public moods. The main conclusions are based on the data obtained during expeditionary works in Beloyarsky, Oktyabrsky and Berezovsky districts of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Ugra) and introduce indigenous peoples' opinions in scientific discourse. Associated normative documents, scientific literature and publications in the media were also used in the article. The study identified positive and negative factors affecting the socio-economic condition of rural communities of the Ob North. It is noted that a wide system of state support has been formed in Yugra, which allows to promote the development of indigenous traditional economic activities including fishing. At the same time, in reality people faced many bureaucratic obstacles that impede realization of their legal rights and make them « involuntary poachers». Among such obstacles are: the declarative principle of granting rights to fish production; quotas for personal consumption; restrictions on fishing gear, species of fish and the timing of its catch; complicated procedure for accounting catch amount and reporting on it; selling problems; imperfection of legislative and regulatory framework on the basis of which traditional fishing is carried out. Special attention is paid to identification of collisions related to the lack of documentary evidence of the Russian Federation citizens belonging to indigenous peoples. It makes difficult the implementation of their rights provided by the legislation and confuses environmental authorities, which are monitoring the legality of the extraction (catch) of water resources. Existing situation creates potential conflicts and requires corresponding changes in the current legislation

With the impact of globalisation and upsurge in technology, almost every other industry type is finding its way to go online through its products, delivery processes or by identifying better ways to reach the consumers. The print media has found its own presence on the web by making newspapers available online. The present study attempts to identify factors affecting the students’ attitudes towards online newspapers. Using factor analysis, the study finds that the important factors driving the growth of e-newspapers include versatility, improvements over print media, abundant knowledge, accessibility and the media being environment-friendly. At the same time, the most important factor which hinders the usage of e-newspaper is the accessibility of internet.

The article discusses approaches to conducting ethnological expertise to assess the consequences of changes in the native habitat of indigenous peoples of the North in connection with an emergency oil spill at the TPP-3 in Norilsk on May 29, 2020. It shows the impact on the environment as a result of past economic activity on the territory of the Norilsk industrial district, as well as possible changes in the sphere of traditional nature management in connection with an emergency oil spill. It is proposed to divide the assessment of negative effects on the environment and the traditional way of life of indigenous peoples associated with past economic activities and changes caused by the current impact of accidental pollution and its consequences on the ethnic group and the traditional way of life of the local population. The stages and content of ethnological expertise of changes in the native habitat of indigenous peoples on the territory of the Taimyr Dolgan-Nenets municipal district of the Krasnoyarsk territory due to an emergency oil spill are considered. The assessment of possible harm to small indigenous peoples for subsequent compensation is proposed to be determined on the basis of reduced resource productivity of the territory and lost profits for certain types of traditional nature use. The zone of withdrawal of the territories of traditional nature use area stress should be determined on the basis of instrumental measurements of the level of environmental pollution (water, soil, etc.). Holding the ethnological expertise in connection with environmental pollution on the territories of traditional nature use, including the assessment and compensation of the caused harm, allows to harmonize the interests of all stakeholders to minimize ecological, economic and social risks in the field of natural use.

Urban studies related to previous pandemics and impacts on cities focused on vulnerable categories including poor and marginalized groups. We continue this tradition and analyze unemployment outcomes in a context of a multi-dimensional social disadvantage that is unfolding during the ongoing public health crisis. For this, we first propose an approach to identify communities by social disadvantage status captured by several key metrics. Second, we apply this methodology in the study of the effect of social disadvantage on unemployment during the COVID-19 and measure the COVID-19-related economic impact using the most recent data on unemployment. The study focuses upon vulnerable communities in in the southeastern US (Tennessee) with a concentration of high social vulnerability and rural communities. While all communities initially experienced the impact that was both sudden and severe, communities that had lower social disadvantage pre-COVID were much more likely to start resuming economic activities earlier than communities that were already vulnerable pre-COVID due to high social disadvantage with further implications upon community well-being. The impact of social disadvantage grew stronger post-COVID compared with the pre-pandemic period. In addition, we investigate worker characteristics associated with adverse labor market outcomes during the later stage of the current economic recession. We show that some socio-demographic groups have a systematically higher likelihood of being unemployed. Compared with the earlier stages, racial membership, poverty and loss of employment go hand in hand, while ethnic membership (Hispanics) and younger male workers are not associated with higher unemployment. Overall, the study contributes to a growing contemporaneous research on the consequences of the COVID-19 recession. Motivated by the lack of the research on the spatial aspect of the COVID-19-caused economic recession and its economic impacts upon the vulnerable communities during the later stages, we further contribute to the research gap.

Since the 1980s, the gender gap in most countries—rich and developing—has been narrowing. Women and girls are going to school more, living longer, getting better jobs, and acquiring legal rights and protections. Despite these strides, women in poor rural communities remain financially excluded from formal financial services. This paper investigates the impact of media campaign on the prevention and spread of Lassa fever in Ebonyi state. 354 respondents were randomly selected from six rural communities in the state as study sample, while structured questionnaires were used for collecting data. SPSS version 20.0 was used to analyze the data. Results of analysis reveal that the media campaign has rural reach but has little or no impact. The results also reveal that the campaign failed to create appropriate awareness of the disease, its preventive/curative health behaviors. It further reveals that there are no health behavior modifications among the people because of the campaign. Therefore, this paper recommends the modification of media contents to incorporate the required preventive/curative health behaviors. Secondly, mandatory mass media awareness campaign and jingles in every news hour is recommended.

Abstract Background In January 2020, Israel launched a reform mandating Front-of-Package (FOP) labeling on food products. The current study examined the factors affecting consumers’ decision-making regarding the use of FOP labels a year after the reform was implemented. Methods The survey was conducted between December 2020 and January 2021 and included a sample of 507 participants age 21 and over. The questionnaire included Health Belief Model (HBM) constructs related to food labeling, nutrition habits, media exposure and extent of support for the reform, frequency of using FOP labels, intention to change purchasing and consumption habits in the coming year, and personal details. Results The study found that 58.5% reported using the FOP labels to some extent. In addition, 70% indicated willingness to change to healthier products in the coming year. The results of the analytical model confirm the validity of the HBM and the other behavioral constructs. In particular, the frequency of using FOP labels increases as the following factors increase: levels of perceived benefits and perceived importance of reading FOP labels, level of perceived importance of healthy nutrition, frequency of conforming to healthy nutrition, and support for the reform. Conclusions The study's findings are important for understanding the impact of the new reform and for guiding future complementary actions to increase people’s motivation to use FOP labels. More advertisement about the FOP labels in the media and also through the HMOs is needed to increase people’s awareness of the reform. In addition, information about the reform provided to the public should emphasize the benefits and health implications of using FOP labels.

Subject Economic implications of the midterms. Significance The US elections this month enjoyed the highest voter turnout for midterms in more than a century and left the Republicans retaining control of the Senate and Democrats regaining the House of Representatives. Healthcare and immigration eclipsed the economy as the top factors affecting voters for the first time in a decade. Democrats did well in suburban districts, making about 75% of their gains in such areas. Republicans strengthened in rural communities despite the impact of the US-China trade dispute on agriculture. Impacts Trump can pursue trade policy changes despite a divided Congress -- making it more likely the tariffs will persist into 2019 or escalate. The House and Senate could join forces to approve a bill reducing prescription drug prices. The leaders of the House and Senate have met to discuss infrastructure but will struggle to attract large-scale private financing.

Effective fight against unfair competition is one of the priorities of state policy and development strategy of each business unit. At the same time, in today's difficult economic environment, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, many businesses face numerous hybrid financial conflicts, including unfair competition. In this context, the article substantiates the need to find new ways to combat this destructive phenomenon. The author considers the approaches of scientists to understanding the essence of unfair competition and the peculiarities of its legislative regulation. An analysis of the impact of unfair competition on the financial and economic activities of business entities in Ukraine. The article notes that with a fairly broad interpretation of the essence of the concept of «unfair competition» is not always possible to correctly classify certain methods of competition. Blurred boundaries between healthy and unfair competition are a prerequisite for hybrid financial conflicts. The author identifies key manifestations of unfair competition, in particular: economic espionage, influence on consumers by manipulating information, counterfeiting competitors, bribery and blackmail, corruption, financial fraud. Technologies of interaction of unfair competitors with employees of the victim enterprise in order to obtain its confidential financial information are described. These are various negotiations, which often take place through bribery or with elements of psychological pressure, in particular, intimidation, blackmail. In addition, it is determined that in the implementation of unfair competitive activities are actively used technologies of interaction with government agencies and due to corruption mechanisms gain a competitive advantage. Technologies of interaction with the media are also revealed, the purpose of which is to form a favorable public opinion for competitors about the activities of the victim enterprise and to compromise the management of the business entity and products or services offered by it on the market. The article examines the most common types of unfair actions that are carried out in order to achieve undue advantages in competition. In order to counteract unfair actions by competitors, the need to balance the financial interests of market participants is justified, in particular, emphasis is placed on the need for competitive intelligence to raise awareness of potential threats from competitors and protect the internal environment from economic espionage.

Abstract Business models have been developed to contribute to rural economic development, being used to create, deliver and capture economic and social value. The aim of this paper is to conceptualize the context of developing business models in rural areas, how these have evolved over time and what is the impact on future strategies in community development based on rural entrepreneurship. The increasing focus and attention on business model innovation has been seen among researchers in the last two decades, and several studies have been conducted to define the concept of business modeling. However, variations in business model definitions are noticeable and opinions regarding its components, structure and relationships inside a business vary as well. The literature review provided significant definitions on the key concepts on business models in rural entrepreneurship. The results of the research are to contribute in developing a framework on the understanding of various terms, such as business model, rural entrepreneurship, community development, and innovative entrepreneurship, with reference to shedding some light on conceptual meaning, purpose, methodology and scope of application. Capturing the existing trends in economic development in rural areas could be performed, based on the literature reviewed in this paper, in order to analyze the potential for diversification of economic activities, by finding the business models already implemented in the rural communities and measuring the impact they had on community development. In this way, a structure for a business model and an emphasis on business opportunities for the rural areas of interest could be developed.
