Background: The aim of this study is to develop a scale and evaluate its' validity and reliability to measure the joy in work of doctors.Methods: Based on literature review and panel discussion, the scale framework and item pool were determined. Next, the items were modified by two rounds of expert consultation. Then the pre-investigation was applied and the formal version of scale was formed. Last, the reliability and validity of the scale were tested with 426 physicians.Results: The scale was composed of four dimensions: work autonomy needs, competency identification needs, competency perception needs and work relationship needs. Each dimension had 7 items, and both reliability and validity were acceptable. The Cronbach α coefficient and half-reliability coefficient of the whole scale were 0.954 (>0.9) and 0.974 (>0.9). The Spearman correlations of item-total score ranged from 0.556 to 0.749, indicating a good-item total score correlation. The χ 2/ df, RMSEA, RMR, GFI, CFI, and TLI, CFA of the maximum likelihood method supported a good fit with the model.Conclusions: Based on the self-determination theory, this study develops a scale to measure the joy in work of doctors. It has good validation and reliability, which is useful for doctors and medical institutions to take steps to improve happiness.

The purpose of this study is aims to develop an inventory assessing self-determined motivation for e-Learning courses in college. The study involves 397 college students, with exploratory factor analysis and Cronbach alpha scale reliability, and the validity of the test. Self-determined learning motivation scale is accordance with the Learning Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SRQ-L) by Williams & Deci (1996) and Black & Deci (2000). It compiled and revised the initial inventory consisted of 14 items, it divided into four dimensions, such as, "Intrinsic motivation", " Identified regulation", Introjected Regulation ", and "External regulation", the total explained variance was 71.35%. The Cronbach alpha is .87, with acceptable construct validity and reliability of measurement tools, it can provide the future development of e-Learning courses.

Abstract Background There is a shortage of rural general practitioners (GPs) in China. Training programs have been initiated to meet the needs of GP workforce in the rural areas; however, there is an absence of validated tool to assess their competencies. Objective This study aimed to develop a competency model for rural general practitioner (CMRGP) after training in China and to examine its validity and reliability. Methods A multistage process was adopted to develop the CMRGP comprised literature review, panel discussion and expert consultation, and the initial version of CMRGP was reduced from 10 domains and 77 items to 7 domains and 54 items. A pilot study was conducted among 202 rural GPs for the psychometric evaluation and application of the initial version of CMRGP, in which a questionnaire on the importance of items and self-evaluation was completed by the GPs. Results In the pilot study, 132 completed questionnaires (65.3%) were returned. Acceptability and face validity of the CMRGP were supported by high importance scores of the items, in which 52 out of 54 items achieved score higher than 4.00 (possible score from 0 to 5). Factor analysis supported the construct validity. After the modification, the final version of CMRGP contained 6 domains and 47 items. Good reliability was supported by internal consistency reliability (Cronbach’s α was 0.98) and split-half reliability (Spearman–Brown coefficient was 0.99). Conclusions The CMRGP demonstrated good reliability and validity. Pilot study showed its potential for application in the rural general practice and training program.

The Wijma Delivery Expectancy/Experience Questionnaire (W-DEQ-B) is an instrument that allows the experiences around fear of childbirth to be examined after the birth. It is currently the most widely used to measure different aspects related to the fear of childbirth and enables healthcare and additional assistance to women after birth to be adapted according to their needs. The objective of this study was to translate the W-DEQ-B into Spanish and analyse its reliability and validity. The study was carried out in two phases: (1) transcultural adaption of the questionnaire to Spanish and (2) a transversal study in a sample of 190 postpartum women from Sexual and Reproductive Health Clinics in the province of Barcelona (Spain). The psychometric properties were examined in terms of reliability (internal consistency and temporal stability) and construct validity (confirmatory factorial analysis [CFA] and exploratory factorial analysis [EFA]). The results of the CFA did not confirm unidimensionality of the W-DEQ-B questionnaire. The EFA suggested four very similar, but not identical, dimensions to those obtained in other studies in which the W-DEQ-B has been evaluated. Both the Cronbach’s alpha and the omega coefficient were adequate for the total questionnaire and for each of the four dimensions. The results of this study confirm that the W-DEQ-B is multi-dimensional. In the Spanish version of the W-DEQ-B-Sp four dimensions have been identified that allow the experiences around fear of childbirth to be examined after the birth. The Spanish version of the WDEQ-B (WDEQ-B-Sp) is reliable and valid for the measurement of fear of childbirth in clinical practice and for use in future research.

ObjectiveTo assess the reliability and validity of a shortened version of the Rainbow Model of Integrated Care (RMIC) measurement tool (MT). The original version of the measurement tool has been modified (shortened) for the Australian context.DesignValidation of the psychometric properties of the RMIC-MT.SettingHealthcare providers providing services to a geographically defined rural area in New South Wales (NSW), Australia.ParticipantsA sample of 56 healthcare providers providing mental and physical healthcare.Main outcome measuresThe psychometric properties of the tool were tested using principal component analysis for validity and Cronbach’s alpha for reliability.ResultsThe tool was shown to have good validity and reliability. The 35 items used in the shortened version of the tool were reduced to 29 items grouped into four dimensions: community-governance orientation, normative integration, functional integration and clinical-professional coordination.ConclusionsThe shortened version of the RMIC-MT is a valid and reliable tool that evaluates integrated care from a healthcare provider’s perspective in NSW, Australia. In order to assess the tool’s appropriateness in an international context, future studies should focus on validating the tool in other healthcare settings.

Standardized measurement with good reliability and validity values to assess levels of selfconfidence of badminton athletes is not yet available in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to develop such measurement, applicable to the condition of athletes in Indonesia. Subjects (N = 60) were badminton athletes and PBSI coaches in Kabupaten Pidie Aceh Province. The process included two stages: (1) collection of item pool and (2) screening of item pool with Q-sort method. The measurement was then tested on 172 athletes from PBSI Kabupaten Pidie Aceh Province. Data was analyzed through tests for validity, reliability, and factor analysis. Results showed that badminton athlete’s self-confidence measurement consisting of five factors and 38 items is valid and reliable, with index scores of .614 and .872 for validity and reliability respectively.

The objective of this study was to develop a valid and reliable mathematics motivation scale (MMS) for UAE students in grades 4 through 12 based on the self-determination theory. A total of 1,481 students (713 boys and 768 girls) from the UAE participated in this study. The process of developing the MMS involved: a) Development of an initial item pool, b) investigating the item-type of motivation membership, c) examining the appropriateness of the administration instructions and the items phrasing, d) and exploring various types of validity and reliability of the MMS. The results indicate that the MMS has acceptable levels of content validity and structure validity. The results also provided evidence that the MMS has acceptable levels of internal consistency and temporal stability.

Abstract. Varimax rotated principal component scores (VRPCS) have previously been offered as a possible solution to the non-orthogonality of scores for the Big Five factors. However, few researchers have examined the reliability and validity of VRPCS. To address this gap, we use a lab study and a field study to investigate whether using VRPCS increase orthogonality, reliability, and criterion-related validity. Compared to the traditional unit-weighting scoring method, the use of VRPCS enhanced the reliability and discriminant validity of the Big Five factors, although there was little improvement in criterion-related validity. Results are discussed in terms of the benefit of using VRPCS instead of traditional unit-weighted sum scores.

Abstract Objectives To examine the validity and reliability of the Mandarin version of the Treatment Burden Questionnaire (TBQ) among stroke patients. Background Stroke patients need long-term management of symptoms and life situation, and treatment burden has recently emerged as a new concept that can influence the health outcomes during the rehabilitation process. Methods The convenience sampling method was used to recruit 187 cases of stroke patients in a tertiary grade hospital in Tianjin for a formal investigation. Item analysis, reliability and validity tests were carried out. The reliability test included internal consistency and test–retest reliability. And as well as content, structure and convergent validity were performed for the validity test. Results Of the 187 completed questionnaires, only 180 (96.3%) were suitable for analysis. According to the experts’ evaluation, the I-CVI of each item was from 0.833 to 1.000, and the S-CVI was 0.967. The exploratory factor analysis yielded three-factor components with a cumulative variation of 53.054%. Convergent validity was demonstrated using measures of Morisky’s Medication Adherence Scale 8 (r = –0.450, P < 0.01). All correlations between items and global scores ranged from 0.403 to 0.638. Internal consistency reliability and test–retest reliability were found to be acceptable, as indicated by a Cronbach’s α of 0.824 and an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.846, respectively. Conclusions The Mandarin TBQ had acceptable validity and reliability. The use of TBQ in the assessment of treatment burden of stroke survivor may benefit health resources allocation and provide tailor therapeutic interventions to construct minimally disruptive care.

<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> The last decade has witnessed a resurgence of interest in the clinician’s subjectivity and its role in the diagnostic assessment. Integrating the criteriological, third-person approach to patient evaluation and psychiatric diagnosis with other approaches that take into account the patient’s subjective and intersubjective experience may bear particular importance in the assessment of very young patients. The ACSE (Assessment of Clinician’s Subjective Experience) instrument may provide a practical way to probe the intersubjective field of the clinical examination; however, its reliability and validity in child and adolescent psychiatrists seeing very young patients is still to be determined. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> Thirty-three clinicians and 278 first-contact patients aged 12–17 years participated in this study. The clinicians completed the ACSE instrument and the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale after seeing the patient, and the Profile of Mood State (POMS) just before seeing the patient and immediately after. The ACSE was completed again for 45 patients over a short (1–4 days) retest interval. <b><i>Results:</i></b> All ACSE scales showed high internal consistency and moderate to high temporal stability. Also, they displayed meaningful correlations with the changes in conceptually related POMS scales during the clinical examination. <b><i>Discussion:</i></b> The findings corroborate and extend previous work on adult patients and suggest that the ACSE provides a valid and reliable measure of the clinician’s subjective experience in adolescent psychiatric practice, too. The instrument may prove to be useful to help identify patients in the early stages of psychosis, in whom subtle alterations of being with others may be the only detectable sign. Future studies are needed to determine the feasibility and usefulness of integrating the ACSE within current approaches to the evaluation of at-risk mental states.
