In responding to the current international integration and fierce competition on marketplace, over the last few decades, most businesses have tried to continuously improve their performance for better competitiveness. One of the preferred approaches is to enhance their employee performance; thus, fully capturing its determinants is critical. Thus, this study aimed at identifying key factors affecting employee performance so that businesses can create proper policies and actions to improve their overall performance. Specifically, as a common phenomenon, most employees working in industrial parks not only live far away from their workplaces as well as work a lot of overtime. These issues were carefully considered in this study to investigate their impacts on the employee satisfaction and performance. In the empirical case of garment enterprises in Binh Duong industrial parks, it was found that job satisfaction and employee performance are positively affected by eight factors: (1) reward and recognition; (2) development and training; (3) job promotion; (4) income; (5) work environment; (6) relationship with superiors; (7) relationship with colleagues; and (8) work procedure and role. In addition, it was found to be negatively affected by the house–work distance and overtime work, which are two new factors proposed in this study.

Abstract Target manoeuvre is one of the key factors affecting guidance accuracy. To intercept highly maneuverable targets, a second-order sliding-mode guidance law, which is based on the super-twisting algorithm, is designed without depending on any information about the target motion. In the designed guidance system, the target estimator plays an essential role. Besides the existing higher-order sliding-mode observer (HOSMO), a first-order linear observer (FOLO) is also proposed to estimate the target manoeuvre, and this is the major contribution of this paper. The closed-loop guidance system can be guaranteed to be uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB) in the presence of the FOLO. The comparative simulations are carried out to investigate the overall performance resulting from these two categories of observers. The results show that the guidance law with the proposed linear observer can achieve better comprehensive criteria for the amplitude of normalised acceleration and elevator deflection requirements. The reasons for the different levels of performance of these two observer-based methods are thoroughly investigated.

The refrigerant mixtures provide an important direction in selecting new environment-friendly alternative to match the desirable properties with the existing halogenated refrigerants or future use in the new devices, in which, HFCs refrigerants with zero ODP combined with HCs refrigerants with zero ODP and lower GWP are of important value in the fields of application. In the present work, research on HFC125/HC290 (25/75 by mass) binary refrigerant mixture used in heat pumps was carried out, and parameters, factors affecting the performance were investigated, and compared with that of HCFC22 under the same operating conditions. It has been found that the new mixture can improve the actual COP by 2 to 13% and hence it can reduce the energy consumption by 20 to 31.5%. The overall performance has proved that the new refrigerant mixture could be a promising substitute for HCFC22.

Employee performance within the organization reflects their knowledge, skills, and values. To this end, identifying the factors, affecting the performance of employees is one of the goals of human-resource improvement in management. The effective role of motivating and reinforcing the sense of worth in an organization's personnel, in improving their efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity as well as enhancing their mental health, are factors that cannot be ignored easily. This is particularly evident in organizations where the workforce is more involved in research activities. One of the key factors is a research organization's sense of responsibility for the organizational problems of its valuable personnel. This research examines the performance diagnosing of the organizational process in Turkish universities and then identifies challenges, threats and opportunities. Finally, suggestions have been made to achieve sustainable organizational development. After identifying and examining the influencing factors, the Weisbord model is examined to evaluate the Performance Diagnosis process of issuing a work permit for foreign professors at a Turkish university. As a result of this study, researchers have made suggestions for university administrators to improve organization and staff performance.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate how the firm’s internal factors influence employee engagement (EE), which, in turn, enhances the performance of textile employees. Furthermore, the present study pursues to address the indirect effect of EE on the relationship between the firm’s internal factors and employee performance. Design/methodology/approach Data were taken from 355 participants working in textile mills through a survey approach. Structural equation modeling was run to confirm the proposed model and structural relationships. Findings Results highlight that internal communication and reward and recognition are significantly related to EE, except for work‒life balance. Furthermore, EE has a significant effect on the performance of textile employees. Practical implications The present study helps the textile managers to improve employee performance while focusing on the firm’s internal factors of engagement. Proactive internal communication and reward system will help to bring a competitive edge and achieve the organizational goals. The findings also provide managers the information to reduce the organization interruptions in enhancing EE and performance. Originality/value This study covered the hidden gap in the previous literature on EE and performance, especially in the field of the textile sector by employing Kahn’s theory of engagement.
