This paper presents the development of a peak-shaving equipment, composed by a multilevel converter in a cascaded H-bridge topology and battery banks on the DC links. Between specific time periods, when the demand is higher, the equipment injects active power from the batteries into the grid to provide support to the system. During the other times of the day, when the demand is lower, the converter charges its battery banks with the exceeding (and low producing cost) energy from the grid. The charge and discharge control algorithms are implemented in a digital signal processor (DSP). The precise time of the day information is obtained from a real-time-clock from a global positioning system module (GPS), which communicates with the DSP through the serial interface. This paper presents the control algorithms and experimental results obtained in a 24 h continuous operation of the equipment.

There are the structure and control algorithms 10kW power source with 25 kHz converter and output synchronous rectifier shown in the article. The output voltage or current of power source has controlled waveform with 1 kHz maximal frequency. The output voltage is galvanically isolated from mains. The source design allows using the load’s energy recuperation in the power converter storage capacitor and soft switching in the synchronous rectifier. The article shows the application of power source as 400 Hz waveform regulated sinusoidal voltage generator.

Due to both precise time measurements and precise geodetic positioning methods (like Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), Lunar Laser Ranging (LLR), Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) and Global Positioning System (GPS)), the position of the instantaneous axis of the Earth’s rotation in space is measured with a precision better than a tenth of milliarcsecond. Simultaneously the amplitudes of the nutations of the Celestial Ephemeris Pole (CEP) deduced from the observations, i.e. the periodic motions in space of the CEP due to the luni-solar attraction or to other planetary attractions, have also been improved. However, these observed nutation amplitudes differ with respect to the computated ones based on an elliptical, uniformly rotating and deformable Earth responding to the lunar and solar attractions, as adopted by the IAU in 1980. The first session on “Observations and data reduction” dealt with Earth’s orientation observations and data analysis for deriving precession and nutations, as well as the associated residuals with respect to the adopted precession constant and nutation series. Comparisons between the different results have been presented including in-phase and out-of-phase components of the prograde and retrograde nutations or of nutations in longitude and in obliquity (see Session 1 of our JD: Newhall et al., McCarthy and Luzum, Herring, and Session 2: Gross). These differences “observed - adopted” nutations achieve several milliarcseconds and exhibit periodic as well as secular characteristics.

A controller composed of a nonrecursive filter and a recursive filter is used to approximate the ideal controller for a spatially feedforward duct ANC problem. The nonrecursive part represents the dynamics of the transducer, whereas the recursive part is in the form of a comb filter. The parameters of the comb filter are obtained from the impulse response of the controller by using the least-square method. The comb filter is then cascaded with the nonrecursive part implemented as either a fixed filter or an adaptive filter. In the latter approach, two types of LMS-based algorithms are used. The proposed algorithms are implemented on the platform of a digital signal processor. Experimental results showed that the approximated controller attained 17 dB maximal attenuation in the frequency band 200∼600Hz.

Acute disabilities always need different types of assistive devices in their daily life. Usually, each of these devices is designed for only one particular usage. Because of this, an acute disable may have to use a joystick to manipulate his wheelchair, used a mouse to control computer, or used a keyboard to control movement of mechanical arm. Thus no consideration of interrelations among these tools was discussed. In 1990, the technical working committee 173 (TC-173/sc-1/wg-7) of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) using serial interface protocol (ISO 7176-7) to integrate all types of assistive tools for the disabilities. At the same time, the European Common Commission funded the research for M3S interface (Multiple Masters Multiple Slave). It provides the disable a concrete integral control for his movement, working, environment control and communication. This is an integrated intelligent real time control capability protocol. It is a plug and play device interface. We design and develop a M3S protocol using TMS320F243 DSP chip. The system was tested for I/O control and it meets the equipments supported by the M3S working group. Thus, it would bring lots of comforts for the disable.

GPS was developed by the United States Department of Defense as a reliable means for accurate navigation. The system provides highly accurate position and velocity information and precise time on a continuous global basis to an unlimited number of properly equipped users. By using combined GPS receiver and microcontroller together with radio system, we can design a monitoring system for our vehicles and display the result on the computer. This system consists of a master module that transmits and receives signals from computer and two slave modules to collect GPS data from vehicles. The result of experiment shows that this system is able to track the vehicle on digital map with accuracy as high as 95%.Keywords: GPS, microcontroller, monitoring, RF

Assaults on women are becoming more common, and in cases where she is unable to use her phone to call the police or other members of her family, our proposal will be extremely useful in providing the knowledge about the attacks, and in providing the precise coordinates which point the ladies to nearest police station or the desired people for necessary action. Females were provided the prototype and that is unseeable to people. The apparatus will contain GSM , an Ar-duino, and a GPS (Global Positioning System) module that will provide us with our geographical location. These posi-tion values will be presented on the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). At the moment of an emergency, she will be able to touch a button once, and the incident is traced and sent to cops or menage, ensuring that she is safeguarded in a timely manner.

Motorcycle theft cases are increasing lately. However, the level of successful case disclosure by the police is classified as minimal. One of the reasons is the difficulty of the investigating team to locate the stolen vehicle. One solution that can be done is to install a tracker on a motorcycle. With the development of technology, we can use GPS devices as a tool to track vehicles from theft. The general objective of this research is to reduce the crime rate of motorcycle theft that currently occurs in Indonesia. The specific design objectives are: (1). Facilitate the security apparatus (2). Eliminate public anxiety about motorbike theft cases. For that we need a better security system as a safety for motor vehicles. This tool is equipped with features or services that support services on motorbikes, namely: SMS / SMS Gateway/ SIM800L Module, ATMega328 Microcontroller, GPS (Global Positioning System) Module, and other supporting devices. This tool is connected to an Android device with a GPS tracking system by showing the location of the missing motor vehicle. It is hoped that this security system design can increase the level of security and reduce cases of theft in motor vehicles. This system has also been tested on motorbikes with good results.
