This paper aimed to investigate the influence of certain wheat and wheat malt quality indicators on limit of attenuation of wort (LAT). The experiment was conducted using wheats that have been proven to display the best malting properties with heightened total and soluble N and very good viscosity. Standard micromalting and brewing processes and analysis were applied. The obtained results showed that the quality of analyzed malts was satisfying. Statistical analysis determined no significant correlation between the limit of attenuation of wort and any of the other analyzed quality indicators. The lack of close correlations between indicators is probably due to the extremely complex intertwine of factors influencing the LAT, pointing to the fact that this particular indicator should be observed as separate and mainly variety-dependent.

Background: Diabetic foot is a very common condition responsible for a major bulk of surgical admissions and out-patient visits. Lack of awareness of many factors influencing the incidence of this disease complex has led to loss of life, limb and quality of life. The site-specific incidence of initial site and initiating factor has not been studied in diabetic foot. Methods: A study has been done over a period of one and a half years which looked into the distribution of initial site of infection in diabetic foot and associated initiating etiologies. The study was cross sectional. History, general inspection of foot, dermatological, neuropathic and vascular assessments were done, in addition to making careful notes about the site and cause of infection.Results:60.7% of patients were >60 years old, 55.3% were male patients. 63.3% of patients had diabetes for more than 10 years. In 29.3% the initial site of infection was the big toe, 22% in the ball of foot, 18% in the other 4 toes together, 14.7% in the interdigital spaces, 10.7% in the heel and 5.3% in the mid foot. In most of the cases the etiology is multifactorial, trauma in 56%, musculoskeletal deformities in 47.3%, callosities in 41.3%, cracks and fissures in 16.7%, fungal infection in 7.3%, nail infection in 6%, no initiating introduction of infection identified in 10.7%.Conclusions: Awareness of and thus particular stress being place on identification of specific site and cause of infection should help in care of the foot in diabetics.

A prospective study was performed to determine the factors Influencing the extrusion rate of tympanostomy tubes. Nine hundred thirty-nine tubes were inserted In 589 patients and the extrusion of these tubes was reviewed up to a period of 27 months. The eight tubes used in the survey were the Shepard, Exmoor, Bobbin, Armstrong, Paparella, Shah, Arrow, and collar button. These tubes were inserted In strict rotation, the operator using the designated tube. The position, type of incision, presence of fluid, quality of tympanic membrane, and degree of difficulty of insertion were all recorded at operation. The sex, age, side of operation, and any simultaneous operative procedures were also recorded. The patients were reviewed the day after operation and then every 3 months thereafter until the tube was extruded. A definite pattern was Identified for the extrusion of each type of tube. At one end of the spectrum, Exmoor and Shepard tubes were, for the most part, extruded between 6 and 9 months after Insertion, while at the other end, most of the collar button tubes were still functioning at 18 months. The design of the tube was the only factor found to be a significant determinant of the extrusion of the tube, although the experience of the surgeon affected the extrusion rate of the Arrow tube. The different dimensions of the Exmoor and collar button tubes are examined and compared.

Without knowing the main quality indicators of agricultural products, it is impossible to draw conclusions about the effectiveness of this or that agro-technical measure. One of the factors influencing the quality of sugar beet and watermelon is the effective application of fertilizers. Fertilizers increase the quality indicators of the product along with its expansion. From this point of view, the effect of organic and mineral fertilizers on the quality indicators of sugar beet and watermelon product in the meadow-gray soils of Mugan-Salyan region was studied. The combined application of organic and mineral fertilizers had a positive effect on the quality indicators of sugar beet and watermelon. Key words: organic and mineral fertilizers, sugar beet, watermelon, phosphorus, potassium, productivity, soil, quality

The Asnaf Economic Programme is one of initiatives that has been planned and implemented by Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) with the purpose of helping asnafs to groom their potentials in the entrepreneurship sector. The objective of the programme is in line with the zakat's own goals in ensuring that each asnaf is able to become independent and to build his or her own potentials in alleviating poverty. Various assistance in the form of capital injection and provision of equipment have been provided to the asnaf in achieving objectives of the programme. The study was conducted to identify factors influencing involvement and participation of the asnafs in the programme as well as to assess the programme effectiveness in improving life status and quality of each asnaf who involves in the programme. This study focuses on asnaf entrepreneurs in Kuala Selangor Distric and an interview method was used to get responses from each participant regarding the programme. A total of 8 aspiring entrepreneurs who participated in the programme were interviewed to gain their views on the effectiveness of the programme. In addition, the researcher used library data to obtain information related to the Asnaf Economic Programme itself. The results show that LZS has successfully produced a group of asnaf entrepreneurs through its economic programme. It has also provided a better life to the participants and reduced the number of asnafs in Selangor, specifically in Kuala Selangor area. In other words, the programme helps to increase the number of zakat payers to benefit unprivileged groups as well as to become role models to the other asnafs in that particular area. However, a thorough assessment of the programme has to be done by LZS in order to improve the quality and effectiveness of the programme in the future. Abstract The quality of public services provided by the courts became one of the most important objectives in all developed countries. According to the current requirements, organizations must respond more promptly to the society’s needs and demands. The citizen / customer’s position and role became essential taking into consideration these changes and reforms, the quality of legal services depends on the user’s demands and expectations holding a strong subjective character. On the other hand, the quality does not apply solely to the final product, namely the court’s decision, but to all related activities carried out during the whole process, the way the citizens perceive all the adjacent activities. In this context Quality Management must identify appropriate methods and techniques to manage the customer’s approach in all its complexity, from the analysis of the importance of learning about their needs, their expectations, and factors influencing the perception to the measurement of the customer satisfaction and not least the management of it.

Abstract. Databases gathering atmospheric data have great potential not only as data storages but also in serving as platforms for coherent quality assurance (QA). We report on the flagging system and QA tools designed for and implemented in the European UV DataBase (EUVDB; http://uv.fmi.fi/uvdb/) for measured data on solar spectral UV irradiance. We confine the study on the data measured by Brewer #037 MkII spectroradiometer in Sodankylä (67.37° N, 26.63° E) in 1990–2014. The quality indicators associated with the UV irradiance spectra uploaded into the database are retrieved from the database and subjected to a statistical analysis. The study demonstrates the performance of the QA tools of the EUVDB. In addition, it yields an overall view of the availability and quality of the solar UV spectra recorded in Sodankylä over a quarter of a century. Over 90 % of the four main quality indicators are flagged as GREEN, indicating the highest achievable quality. For the BLACK flags, denoting data not meeting the pre-defined requirements, the percentages for all the indicators remain below 0.12 %.

An experiment was carried out with two groups of ten cows each, made up of two Guernseys, two Ayrshires, two Friesians and four Shorthorns. The experiment was of the change-over type, the experimental period of 20 weeks being subdivided into four periods of 5 weeks, each cow alternating between the two treatments. In two of the periods a normal winter ration of roots, hay and concentrates was fed. In the other two periods artificially dried grass replaced a proportion of the concentrates, an average of 8 lb. being fed per head daily. The two types of ration provided equal amounts of starch equivalent and protein equivalent, but the carotene intake was greater in the “dried grass ration”.A statistical analysis of the difference in milk yields due to the contrast “Dried grass” v. “Control” revealed no signs of any effect, and if any actual effect does exist, it is quite negligible for the 5-week periods of this experiment.

The aim of this study was to examine physicians' and nurses' preferences regarding the use of life-sustaining treatments (LST) for severely ill elderly patients, and the patient- and social-centered factors that influence them. Physicians and nurses working in Israeli general hospitals completed structured questionnaires referring to their preferences for using LST in three severe health conditions (metastatic cancer, mental illness and being bedridden/incontinent). The participants were also asked about factors influencing these preferences, including patients' wishes, quality of life, religiosity and the current law. Both physicians and nurses indicated that they would use less LST for patients with metastatic cancer than with those suffering from the other two health conditions. Our findings indicate that the attitudes of professionals involved in these processes are influenced not only by the patient's condition but also by their professional orientations and personal values. Open communication among professionals for clarifying the various beliefs, as well as the antecedents of these beliefs, is important for the benefit of professional teams, patients and families.

Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to measure the effect of fatigue in quality of life by measuring self-perceived health in patients with thalassemia.  Methods: 302 patients undergoing transfusion treatment from 5 hospitals around Greece participated in the study. Fatigue was measured with open access questions and quality of life with the Euro5D thermometer as self-perceived health. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS21.Results: 236 patients (78.7%) reported that they were suffering from fatigue while only 21.3 % (n=66) reported that they had no fatigue. Present health status had a mean of 69.9 with an SD 19.3. Almost half (48.2%) declared they had fatigue a few times over a months period, while 41.7% replied that daily activities were the cause for feeling fatigue. Females reported statistically significant higher existence of fatigue (x2= 5.744; p=0.017). Education and marital status had no correlation with self-perceived health. Existence, frequency of fatigue, existence of fatigue during the last month, self-interpretation of the cause of fatigue and  frequency of fatigue before transfusion all had significant differences with self-perceived health (p<0.05).Conclusions: Fatigue has been identified as a very common symptom in patients with thalassemia affecting the self-perceived health in this population. This result broadens the evidence regarding fatigue in hemoglobinopathies and leads us to the need for distinguishing the etiologies leading to fatigue in hemoglobinopathies since it is an important factor affecting HPQoL. Longitudinal studies are needed in order to understand the path of fatigue and the factors influencing the condition
