Background and Objectives: Hammertoe, one of the most common toe deformities, causes pain due to overloading of the periarticular tissues and skin lesions. Additionally, it results in problems with footwear choice, an unattractive foot appearance and a deterioration in quality of life. The most common treatment for rigid and advanced deformities is surgery, and these procedures are widely described in literature. If the changes in the interphalangeal and metatarsophalangeal joints are flexible (that mean they undergo correction without causing pain) or surgery is not possible, conservative treatment should be considered. No research, however, has been found detailing this treatment method. Conservative treatment includes the Kinesiology Taping (KT) method, which involves applying taping to correct deformities. This report describes the effect of KT treatment in a female patient with hammertoes. Materials and Methods: Anthropometric foot measurements (3D scanner) and foot loadings (baropodometric platform) are presented before KT applying, immediately after tapes application and after tapes removal following one month of use. Results: After using KT application parameters such as: foot length, maximum foot load, load under the area of the metatarsals II-III changed. Conclusion: Kinesiology Taping seems to be a symptomatic form of treatment of the effects of lesser toes deformity, therefore it is a good alternative for patients who do not want or cannot undergo surgery.

An increase in the consumption of poultry meat has been observed due to its availability, nutritional value, and delicate flavor. These characteristics make it possible to prepare, with the use of spices and other additives, many different dishes and products for increasingly demanding consumers. The sous-vide technique is increasingly being used to give new sensory attributes to dishes in gastronomy. The study aimed to assess the impact of the heat treatment method, i.e., the sous-vide method, as compared to traditional cooking, on the sensory quality of poultry meat, as well as the efficiency of the process with regard to technological quality. The cooking yield with the sous-vide method of processing poultry meat was higher than with the traditional method of cooking in water (88.5% vs. 71.0%, respectively). The meat was also found to be redder (a* = 254 vs. 074) and less yellow (b* = 1512 vs. 1649), as well as more tender. The sensory quality of chicken breast meat obtained by the sous-vide method was higher in terms of attributes such as color tone, tenderness, juiciness, and overall quality. At the same time, it was lower in terms of the odor of cooked meat and the flavor of cooked meat as compared to meat subjected to traditional cooking.

Background: Watering eye is in the population a very common eye phenomenon. Watering eye is presented with excessive amount of tears on the surface of the eye that are spilled over the edge of the eyelid on the skin of the eyelids and face. Basically, watering eye is divided into excessive tearing or lacrimation and on the lack of drainage of tears or epiphora. Only correct identification of both phenomena can lead to successful treatment of several patients. Methods: The article presents the anatomy and physiology of lacrimal system causes for lacrimation and epiphora, diagnostic tests and types of treatment. Laser treatment method for epiphora which is performed at the Eye Hospital in Ljubljana is presented. Results: The most common cause for epiphora is nasolacrimal duct occlusion, which is treated by dacryocystorhinostomy. With the minimally invasive version of this treatment method, transcanalicular laser dacryocystorhinostomy, we are able to treat epiphora in 85% of cases. Conclusions: Proper diagnosis and treatment of watering eye is important because of the impact of tearing on a number of eye processes. Incorrectly identified causes and treatment deteriorate patients' quality of life with decreased visual acuity and disrupted social contacts. In the article we show the contribution of the Eye Hospital in Ljubljana to the successful treatment of epiphora with transcanalicular diode laser-assisted dacryocystorhinostomy.

Photogrammetry allows a three-dimensional reconstruction of the object based on its multiple photography’s. The quality of the reconstruction result depends mostly on the gloss, the diversity of the texture, the lighting conditions, the quality of the camera calibration and the shape of the object. The article presents the results of a simulation of a multi-camera reconstruction system, for the needs of designing indoor and outdoor 3D scanner. The 3D reconstruction system works by simultaneously taking photographs of cameras located around the object. The simulation was created to investigate the optimal distribution of cameras and projectors casting a pattern that increases the number of characteristic points on the surface of the object. The impact of background removal in images on the reconstruction result as well as the texture quality of the object depending on the resolution and distance of the cameras from the object were also investigated. The graphic engine used to create the simulation also allows testing of impact of various conditions. The presented results prove that the parameters of the system structure, such as the placement of cameras, projectors, the selection of patterns projected by the projectors are important and their values can be determined at the stage of system simulation. The acquired results are promising and will be further investigated.

An increase of psoriasis in childhood, a more severe course of this disease, the presence of a cosmetic defect, which causes a negative impact on the quality of life of such patients, determine the relevance of this problem of modern dermatology. Psoriasis is characterized by a psoriatic rash, which is based on hyperkeratosis caused by uncontrollable mitosis of keratinocytes. Despite the recent studies of a large number of various mechanisms that can contribute to the psoriasis development, there is still no clear answer which of them is the main one, and this makes it impossible to achieve in most cases the desired clinical result of treatment, in particular, ensuring stable clinical remission or complete recovery of patients. The purpose of our study was to assess the impact of psoriatic manifestations on the quality of life among children. The object of observation was 106 children aged 4 to 17 years suffering from psoriasis. The average age of the children was 13 years. The measurement was carried out using the “Dermatological Quality of Life Index” (DLQI) (age 16–17 years), and the “Pediatric Dermatological Quality of Life Index” (CDLQI) (age 4–15 years). In addition, we analyze the severity indices of psoriasis in children: BSA, PASI and PGA. As a result of the study, the following was found: in general, psoriasis has a small impact on the quality of life in children – DLQI in children with psoriasis is 5 points; the value of the DLQI index is statistically significantly higher in girls than in boys, and with age the effect on the quality of life in children with psoriasis increases; skin lesions with psoriatic plaques of open areas in children has a significant impact on the quality of life: with scalp psoriasis, the DLQI level is the highest; statistically significant relationships between DLQI and psoriasis severity indices are established: between DLQI and BSA (r = 0.378; p < 0.001), between PASI and DLQI (r = 0.38; p < 0.001). With an increase in the intensity of manifestations of the pathological process assessed by the PGA index, the influence of psoriasis on the quality of life among children also increases (p = 0.011). According to the results of the study, methodological recommendations on medical and social support for children with psoriasis were drawn up and provided to specialized medical organizations.

The effects of nanoparticles (NPs) on plants are contrasting; these depend on the model plant, the synthesis of the nanoparticles (concentration, size, shape), and the forms of application (foliar, substrate, seeds). For this reason, the objective of this study was to report the impact of different concentrations of selenium (Se) and copper (Cu) NPs on yield, antioxidant capacity, and quality of tomato fruit. The different concentrations of Se and Cu NPs were applied to the substrate every 15 days (five applications). The yield was determined until day 102 after the transplant. Non-enzymatic and enzymatic antioxidant compounds were determined in the leaves and fruits as well as the fruit quality at harvest. The results indicate that tomato yield was increased by up to 21% with 10 mg L−1 of Se NPs. In leaves, Se and Cu NPs increased the content of chlorophyll, vitamin C, glutathione, 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazolin-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPX) and phenylalanine ammonia liasa (PAL). In fruits, they increased vitamin C, glutathione, flavonoids, firmness, total soluble solids, and titratable acidity. The combination of Se and Cu NPs at optimal concentrations could be a good alternative to improve tomato yield and quality, but more studies are needed to elucidate their effects more clearly.

In practice, unfamiliar pigs are frequently mixed prior to loading in order to obtain groups of uniform weight and to adjust the group size to the dimensions of the trailer compartments. Mixing pigs induces aggressive interactions to establish a new social rank. Fighting results in skin lesions and pre-slaughter stress and, in turn, reduced meat quality. A study was performed to compare the effect of non-regrouping and regrouping at fattening (at 80 kg and kept till slaughter), loading and lairage. A total of 1332 pigs were included over 30 transports from one pig farm to one slaughterhouse (110 km). Skin lesions were determined on 1314 carcasses. Meat quality was measured on 620 pigs. The non-regrouped pigs had fewer skin lesions and better meat quality than the pigs regrouped at loading or in lairage. Pigs mixed at 80 kg at the farm had, in general, a comparable amount of skin lesions and comparable meat quality as the non-mixed group. If mixing is unavoidable, due to large within-group weight variations, mixing at 80 kg can be an alternative to reduce skin lesions at slaughter and to optimise meat quality.

Abstract Introduction Dizziness is one of the most common reasons for seeking primary health care. Vestibular rehabilitation (VR) is a conventional treatment method for peripheral balance disorders that effectively decreases symptoms. Lian gong [LG] is believed to benefit patients with dizziness and to reduce the impact of the condition on quality of life by stimulating visual fixation, attention, body balance, and neuroplasticity. Objective The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of LG on the impact of dizziness on quality of life and fear of falling in primary health care patients. Methods This was a two-arm, parallel randomized clinical trial that included 36 patients with dizziness not caused by central changes. After specific medical evaluations and indications for treatment, the participants were randomly assigned to 3 groups: the LG group (n = 11), the VR group (n = 11), and the control group (n = 14). The interventions were conducted collectively over a period of 12 weeks. Results Lian gong reduced the influence of dizziness on quality of life in physical (1.8 points, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.2–3.4), functional (4.0 points, 95% CI: 2.1–5.9), and emotional domains of quality of life (4.4 points, 95% CI: 1.7–7.2), with no differences compared with VR. There were similar concerns among the groups about the risk of falling. Conclusion Lian gong was shown to be an effective balance rehabilitation strategy to reduce the impact of dizziness on quality of life, with similar results to those of VR.

This article is dedicated to the increasing of the effectiveness of treatment of patients with vascular lesions of the skin using the radiation of KTP-Nd:YAG laser with a wavelength of532 nm. An experimental research was conducted to study the effect of laser radiation with an energy density of 4, 6, and 8 J/cm2 used on blood vessels ofauricles of experimental animals (rabbits) according to the histological study in dynamics. As a result of the experiment, it was found that laser radiation with a radiation density of up to 4 and 6 J/cm2 does not damage the epidermis of the skin, which indicates the selectivity of the effect on the blood vessels of the rabbit auricles. The histological pattern is distinctive for that ofselective photothermolysis. The processes ofneoangiogenesis, proliferation of fibroblasts, collagen production, fibrillogenesis end with the maturation andfibrous transformation ofthe granulation tissue without its cicatrical deformation. The use of KTP-Nd:YAG laser may increase the quality of treatment of patients with skin lesions.

Background and Objectives: Hallux valgus, one of the most common foot disorders, contributes to the formation of pain, changes foot proportions and hinders everyday functioning. In this study we wanted to verify if kinesiology taping improves hallux valgus and affects the position as well as reducing pain. Materials and Methods: Forty feet with hallux valgus were examined and the parameters were measured at three stages: before the kinesiology taping was applied, just after its application and after a month of use. Measurements were taken with a 3D scanner and a baropodometric platform. Results: When taping was applied, the hallux valgus angle decreased statistically significantly compared with pre-taping (p < 0.01). The use of taping for a month significantly reduced this angle compared with pre-taping (p < 0.05). Parameters such as foot length, the surface of the hindfoot and forefoot and hindfoot pressure on the ground changed. A change in the hallux position due to the taping produced significant changes in the perception of pain (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Kinesiology taping acts on the hallux valgus and foot position mechanically. This makes kinesiology taping an effective method of conservative treatment for patients who are not qualified for surgery.

This paper presents an experiment conducted in Explosia, a.s., Pardubice. A bimetal prepared of AZ 31 Mg alloy - CrNi austenitic steel was tested in various conditions, and consequently its quality was assessed. Focus was particularly on the impact of atmosphere and vacuum on the interface character of the metals (bimetals) prepared by explosion. Parallel placement of the materials being welded was used for welding in both vacuum and air atmosphere. Welding sets were designed and manufactured. The welding parameters and conditions were set up utilising the available computational means, and then verified by simulation in ANSYS engineering-scientific program. Used was Semtex S 35, a loose explosive, as well as Startline 12, an initiation explosive. Bimetal was fabricated in the air atmosphere at the detonation speed 2613 m.s-1 and in vacuum at the detonation speed 2597 m.s-1. Quality of bimetals was assessed by optical microscopy, measuring deformations by a 3D scanner, measuring microhardness and also by EDX microanalysis.
