Background: Cystic lesions of the jaw are commonly found in clinical practice. Large, expansive cysts raise challenges for the clinician from both diagnostic and surgical perspectives. The aim of our work is to present a combined, two-staged surgical approach in histologically confirmed non-aggressive cystic lesions of the jaw. Methods and Results: We report the case of an extensive mandibular cyst, associating a high risk of bone fracture, that is treated in the initial stage by cystic decompression through marsupialization with concomitant histological diagnostic confirmation, followed in the second stage by radical excision and mandibular reconstruction with titanium mesh, with the purpose of prevention for oro-cystic chronic fistula formation. Conclusions: Large odontogenic mandibular cysts imply a meticulously conducted assessment and treatment. Marsupialization should be taken into consideration for the treatment of large cystic lesions, followed by secondary enucleation, with minimal risks for the patient. The soft tissue healing process can be optimized with the use of titanium meshes, as an alternative for other reconstructive techniques, in the management of large cystic lesions.

Introduction: Trophic ulcers of the lower extremities are an unresolved problem of modern medicine. The treatment of this pathology requires new methods that optimize care regimens and improve patients’ quality of life. Aim: The study to improve efficacy of treatment of the patients with trophic ulcers of the lower limbs with consideration to pathogenesis. M aterials and Methods: The study included 32 patients with chronic venous disease C6 (1st group) and 31 with diabetes mellitus type 2, moderate severity, compensation stage with diabetic foot syndrome II stage according to Wagner’s classification (2nd group). In addition to basic therapy in both groups photodynamic therapy was added at the first stage of the study, and at the second stage plasma rich in growth factors was prescribed. Results: At baseline evaluating of the chronic venous disease demonstrates that a total score in patient of the 1st group was 20,9 points on a modified VCSS scale; after two weeks – 15,71 points (improvement by 24.83%), and 6 weeks after–9,72 points (improvement by 53.49%). In patients with DM (2nd group) at the baseline a total score average was 13,91 points according to S(AD)SAD-1 scale; after 2 weeks – 12,29 (improvement by 11,65%), after 6 weeks – 6,39 points (improvement by 54,06%). Conclusions: The inclusion of photodynamic therapy and plasmatherapy in complex therapy in both groups led to a significant improvement of the healing process and helps to reduce the depth and area of the wound surface. However, the wound healing in patients in group 2 was slower.

The issue of energy behaviour among Polish consumers, and especially the motives and attitudes they manifest, is relatively under-researched. This article attempts to identify individual attitudes and beliefs of energy consumers using the example of the residents of the province of Silesia (Poland). The authors conducted the expert segmentation of respondents in terms of their motivation for saving energy, based on the results of their proprietary survey. The second stage of the study involved using a classification model that allowed for the characterisation of the obtained groups. Psychological and financial factors were of greatest significance, which is confirmed by the results of other studies. Nonetheless, the obtained results explicitly indicate the specificity of the region, which requires transformation towards a low-emission economy. Despite the initial stage of changes both in the awareness of the consumers and the public interventions of the authorities, it should be emphasized that a majority of the respondents—at least to a basic extent—declared taking energy-saving measures. Financial motives are predominant among the respondents, although pro-environmental motives can also be noticed, which might translate into increased involvement and concern for the environment and climate.

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) are benign cystic lesions of the pancreas with recognised premalignant potential. An occasional feature of IPMNs is fistula formation to surrounding organs. This report describes a case of a pancreaticogastric fistula from a main duct IPMN that produced the complete resolution of the patient’s symptoms.

The present study was carried out to evaluate the acute toxicity and the effect of the aqueous extract of the roots from Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng) Pedersen (Amaranthaceae) (AEP) on the prevention of acetic acid-induced ulcer and on the healing process of previously induced ulcers. The acute toxicity was evaluated in Swiss mice after oral administration of a single dose and the chronic gastric ulcer was induced with local application of acetic acid. The results showed that the LD50 of the extract was 684.6 mg.kg-1 for the intraperitoneal administration and higher than 10 mg.kg-1by the oral route. The administration of the AEP did not prevent ulcers formation. However, the AEP increased of the healing process of previously induced ulcers. The results suggest that AEP chronically administered promote an increase of tissue healing, after the damage induced by acetic acid and the extract seemed to be destituted of toxic effects in the mice by the oral route.

Sexual violence is a concerning public health and criminal justice problem. Even though extensive literature has linked sexual victimization to a multitude of mental and physical problems, some victim/survivors recover and are able to lead lives without notable negative impacts. Little is known about women who experienced posttraumatic growth following sexual victimization. This review brings together knowledge accumulated in the academic literature in the past decade. It was informed by the PRISMA-P guidelines. Databases were searched using a combination of keywords to locate original peer-reviewed research articles published between January 2010 and October 2020 focusing on posttraumatic growth following sexual victimization. The initial search identified 6,187 articles with 265 articles being read in full, identifying 41 articles that were included in the analysis. The results suggest that recovery from sexual victimization is possible with the healing process being idiosyncratic. Victim/survivors employed various strategies resulting in higher degrees of functioning, which were termed growth. Following a synthesis of themes that emerged from the thematic analysis, a higher order abstraction, using creative insight through reflexivity, discussions among the research team and consistent interpretation and re-interpretation of the identified themes as a second stage analysis, resulted in the identification of two superordinate topics “relationship to self” and “relationship to others.” Findings indicated that women engaged in deliberate introspection to connect with themselves and utilized altruistic actions and activism in an attempt to prevent further sexual victimization Helping victim/survivors deal with the sexual violence facilitated growth as a collective. We concluded that helping others may be a therapeutic vehicle for PTG. Given research in this area remains in its infancy, further investigation is urgently needed.

Trends of 20 years' research on ship waves at the Tokyo University Tank since 1960 are briefly sketched. Stress is focused on the importance of dialogues between man and nature. The process of these dialogues is exemplified by some typical cases, including the development of bulbous bows and the finding of free-surface shock waves. Wave-pattern pictures are shown to be indispensable for the initial stage of the di alogues, while wave contours and velocity-field measurements serve well in the second stage. The current wave analysis and wake survey may be the third. The relationship between "wavebreaking" and the "free-surface shock wave" is also discussed.

This chapter focuses on an Autonomous Ground Vehicle (AGV), also known as intelligent vehicle, which is a vehicle that can navigate without human supervision. AGV navigation over an unstructured road is a challenging task and is known research problem. This chapter is to detect road area from an unstructured environment by applying a proposed classification model. The Proposed model is sub divided into three stages: (1) - preprocessing has been performed in the initial stage; (2) - road area clustering has been done in the second stage; (3) - Finally, road pixel classification has been achieved. Furthermore, combination of classification as well as clustering is used in achieving our goals. K-means clustering algorithm is used to discover biggest cluster from road scene, second big cluster area has been classified as road or non road by using the well-known technique support vector machine. The Proposed approach is validated from extensive experiments carried out on RGB dataset, which shows that the successful detection of road area and is robust against diverse road conditions such as unstructured nature, different weather and lightening variations.

AbstractPlatelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been shown to be a beneficial growth factor for bone tissue healing and is used in implantology. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of PRP on bone defects in rabbits. Twenty rabbits were used to establish the implant bone defect model in this study. An intrabony defect (5mm × 5mm × 3mm) was created in alveolar bone in the lower jar of each rabbit. The wound was treated with PRP. The expression of platelet-derived growth factor BB (PDGFBB) was assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and related phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT (protein kinase B) levels were measured by Western blot. The results show that PRP could significantly improve the bone healing process when compared with control, and 10% PRP could markedly increase fibroblast proliferation 48-h post treatment. PDGFBB was higher in the PRP group than that in the control group. PRP treatment also could elevate the phosphorylation of FAK and PI3K/AKT, although the inhibitor of PDGFR could reverse this trend. These results suggest that PRP treatment improves the bone healing process through the FAK/PI3K/AKT pathway.

ABSTRACTThe temperature dependence of 300 eV argon ion sputtering of CoSi2 thin films in the range 50–600°C has been investigated. At temperatures above 400°C, the etch rate of CoSi2 on Si is significantly reduced, while the underlying Si reacts with the Co atoms diffusing from the silicide surface. As a result, the silicide layer effectively moves into the substrate during Ar bombardment. During sputtering of CoSi2 on Sio2, the thickness of the silicide layer decreases almost linearly with bombarding time until all the silicide is removed. Similar behavior is observed in low temperature sputtering of CoSi2 on (100) Si and evaporated Si. However, at elevated temperatures (400°C< <600°C), sputtering of CoSi2 on Si undergoes two consecutive stages. During the initial stage, the thickness of the silicide layer decreases at the same rate as that of the silicide on SiO2, and is accompanied by an enrichment in Co concentration near the surface. During the second stage, the etch rate of the silicide is reduced to only one third of the rate during the initial stage.
